I have no idea. since I didn't bring that up, not sure why you're asking me.
Just an observation on the conversation at hand.

Somebody not knowing how an individual feels about certain words and then being annoyed when asked to change their vocabulary doesn't necessarily make them a racist.

Context really makes the world go round, you know. For starters, I never commented on the "boy" thing, so to use this as a "gotcha" thing is silly.

Secondly, it makes zero sense to act like a voice to text error of "nip it" when I was referencing myself saying "nitwit", is some big slur on my part.

Thirdly, to act like when someone says "nip it" (esp in the context of what I was saying, and then my explanation and correction immediately after) the first thing people think of is a well known slur against Japanese people (when it is the use of "nip" as a descriptive of a noun, and not as a verb), is disingenuous. Had I not been in a conversation with Nate, where I called him a "nitwit" and we continued in the conversation where I was referencing him getting upset over the word "nitwit", and it was completely out of the blue (or had a clearly obvious explanation), I could see being upset. But none of that is true. It's not like I said ****** where there are pretty much no way in which it makes sense to use the word in a sentence (nip it in the bud, nip ups, nip slip, etc) without it meaning the slur.

Unless you think that I secretly tried to include that slur in this conversation, in a thread about critical race theory...that I started...was done on purpose.

Also, taken into account that it's super obvious that "nitwit" and "nip it" sound similar to a phone. Especially if someone has a speech impediment.

Also the reason I brought up the "nip it in the bud" thing was because that is a far more common use of the word "nip", than a slur against Japanese people anymore. Had Nate and I been talking about Japanese people, or been making stereotypical comments about each other (or other people) OR had Nate himself been Japanese, I could understand the original intent being questioned. But instead, it's being used as a case of "see??? you said something offensive too! Stop!"

When, like I said, I didn't comment on the whole "boy" thing in the first place, so it really makes no sense to comment on an audial error by my phone as though it's some big gotcha moment.

Is this going to be a thing every time someone says "nip up" or comments on a "nip slip"?
It's not a gotcha moment. The part about it being a mistake on your phone is completely fine. It happens.

Someone tells you it is a harmful derogatory term, the first thing you try to do is justify it by claiming it is commonly used over here. That is what was gross.

It reminds me of when I grew up with a severely autistic brother and someone would say the R word in reference to friends. I would start seeing red and yell at them. They would try to justify why its not derogatory. Just stupid bro. You're better than that.

Yeah and when someone tells you it was a voice to text error AND the slur makes no sense in the context....

Again, not sure what that has to do with me or anything I've said

Oh no. I said that was understandable.

But you can see how even a politically correct person can be made to feel and respond in a defensive way after even an innocent miscommunication.

No worries at all. I don't think any less of you. It was honestly just an opportunity for an experiment.

I'm sorry if you were offended or made to feel uncomfortable.

I don't know why you guys need to be such condescending assholes about this.

Every American needs to decolonize their mind. Black people too. The whole colorism thing where darker black people have issues with lighter skinned black people is a construct of white supremacy (lighter skinned black folk were allowed to live inside the enslaver's house).

You are who you are when the police show up.

Someone tells you decolonize your mind and you take offense because that's white fragility talking.

An issue that you not only have yet to address with yourself but haven't even acknowledged it's existence.

This also is mindset decolonization.

Then you get into semantics to deflect the use of the term boy for black men. It's so hard for you to even consider changing your mindset on that.

Again, white fragility and necessary mind decolonization. You're probably even more mad now...

I feel you. I'm like Irish, scottish, french, german, polish, english. I have like 10% native blood according to a dna test. I don't claim being a tribe member or anything. My mom is a tribe member.

I'm not using my dna results of showing very small part native to mean anything. Just illustrating how most "white" americans are a fucking blender of no heritage to trace back to other than being considered American.

This is your heritage. Even people from England don't call themselves white. Also, if you have 10% Indigenous blood, trace your history and I guarantee you'll find colonialism...

Y'all need to figure out these constructs. Because they have you convinced we're different races...

White and Black are not races of people, homo sapiens are...

I agree with this. There are definitely NOT different races of people. That is a problem with how some people think.

I wonder if it's Ok to teach Othello? Othello was a Moor, referred to as a Black man. Interestingly, color prejudice wasn't a thing in early 17th century England. Othello was a general and hero. Desdemona was a lady of the highest Venetian society. Her father was furious when she married Othello, not because of color but because of class. And that she eloped. He fully expected to arrange her marriage to a nobleman of her class and even charged Othello with witchcraft because what but a spell could make his daughter run away with a husband of her choosing. Examinations showed Desdemona was in love, not witched. And Venice was attacked by Turks, so needed its best general, Othello.

Iago's machinations were born of professional jealousy, not racism.

Race prejudice came later in England.

You simply cannot teach black excellence in this country. Plain and simple.

One of my favorite Shakespeare works.

My great grandma considered herself full Native. Her husband was mostly irish. No idea when his side immigrated.

My grandparents on the other side immigrated in the early 1900s from Ireland.

I have no problem not referring to white and black if that is what you're saying. I don't really like to bring up race. Just trying to have a conversation to continue to learn.

Appreciate you @dviss1. Enjoy hearing your perspective.

See... But you got Tim Scott and Kamala Harris saying this isn't a racist country...

All skinfolk ain't kinfolk...

we can't be a racist country, we elected a black president!

...

The Virginia State Supreme Court decided the statue of traitor general Robert E Lee can finally come down.
About 150 years late.

Yup. White people only exist in America. They are PURELY an American construct.

Funny how the inventors of "race" are the same one to ask you "wHy DoEs iT aLWayS gOtTa bE AbOUt rAcE??"

So are black people a construct? When you say something like "we need you now more than ever," who exactly is "we" if race is a construct? And if you identify with black people, why should I not identify with white people when people are saying negative things about white people?

You're welcome to choose which side you want to be on.

There's Sooooo much ignorance in this.... Fine I won't call you white. I'll call y'all European... Because y'all ain't from here either...

YES BLACK IS A CONSTRUCT... JESUS... (we've literally been through this...)

We are FORCED to latch onto Black... Why???

Because your ancestors not only STOLE this country and murdered it's indigenous people, they STOLE our history too (and yours but you're not ready for that conversation. You're not really even ready for this one). MFs wanna tell us "go back to Africa" when it's 54 countries....

Well which one do I go back to?? Exactly...

My ancestors? Interesting. You don't even know who my ancestors were. So you're basing that on..... what exactly? OH THAT'S RIGHT! The color of my skin!

So what exactly do you say to your ancestors who sold you into slavery? What role did they play?

I wasn't born in Europe. My parents weren't born there either. Not sure how I'm European. And most of the indigenous people that were here aren't from here either. Maybe read up on the land bridge. Unless mother fuckers started out as fish that crawled out of the water and grew legs, then they started somewhere. It's all a matter of how far back you want to go. Nobody is indigenous. Humans migrate. We are nomadic. This antiquated idea that you're from here and we're from there and those people over there are from this place and the other thing is so narrow minded. How long does my blood line have to be on this continent before I'm considered an American?

I can confirm this, the first time I meant Nate he was wearing shoes with lifts in them. It's obvious he is...
