I was just listening to yesterdays Talking Ball, and they were saying that the rumor currently is that Melo is more interested in the money than in the city since he would likley be missing out on 20mil or more by not doing the extension. So teams like HOuston and Dallas are now making offers and not even caring about if Melo has his extension already in place. So, should the Blazers also be putting together offers to try and get Melo just hoping that the 20mil will be enough to get Melo to stay a blazer in the future.

The trade I came up with is this

Denver Trade:
Carmelo Anthony
Billups

Blazers Trade:
Batum
Camby
Miller
Oden
2 2011 first round picks
1 2013 first round pick

Works on trade machine

Denver gets Batum who they covet. They save a shit ton of money by getting rid of the long contracts of Billups and Melo in exchange for Miller and Camby, who can still help them be competitive this season. They can either save more money with Oden or take a chance and match any offers in the offseason if they want HIGH risk HIGH reward. THey get 3 first rounders. Everything Denver has been asking for, savings, young talent, and picks, they get.

The Blazers get Melo and Billups who still has a little gas in his tank.

Hmmmm

Billups/Matthews/Melo/Aldridge/Przybilla

Bench: Mills, Rudy, Cunningham, Marks, Babbitt, Johnson, Williams, Roy

Not a horrible team.

My only concern is it leaves us with gaps at center and PG (Billups seems to be slowing down). And those are two big gaps to have n the NBA. And, no, we can't make those up in the draft. So were I to approve this trade I'd like to know what NBA vet starting PG (assuming Billups hasn't much left) and two centers.

Those would be my concerns as well, but I was trying to come up with a realistic trade that Denver would do. I think Billups has enough in the tank for this season, and next year may be a lockout. The lack of centers is more concerning to me. THe Blazers would have two open roster spots, so they could pray that signing some dregs will work out better this time than Marks.

ick.

maybe if it was an extension sign and trade and they threw in lawson, neither of which would happen.

Well, kudos for the idea. It is intriguing.

No. No no no.

barfo

Considering Melo wouldn't sign long-term here, no. I don't feel like trading all those assets for a rental til the end of the season.

Ditto. But hey kudos for thinking big I guess ...

Melo will sign that extension. He'll then go on a slow down strike until he gets traded to a team he wants to play for. His wife--La La Vazquez--is driving this move. She wants to be a celebrity, and Denver isn't the place for it.
