Should we rest our starters Jan 21st @OKC?

This is the next game where we'll be playing our 4th games in 5 nights. Its the last game of a brutal stretch; @SAS @DAL @HOU @OKC. The Thunder will have been at home for 5 nights and playing with a day of rest after hosting the Kings. They are currently an undefeated 12-0 at home.

I'd like to see Stotts rest all his starters that night just as the Spurs routinely do. We have no realistic chance of winning that game. We need to keep our starters more fresh this season so they don't take a nose dive as we did last year.
 
Interesting concept actually. I think it will depend on how we play the other games. If we are 2-1, then why not? If we are on a 2 game skid, I doubt stotts will.

Typically I'd say no, but after being at the Spurs/Blazer game a few years ago where Pop sat his starters at the end of a tough road trip, I think it may be wise. Of course, that will be in the last few weeks of Stern's reign as commissioner, and he may fine the Blazers like he did the Heat when Spoelstra did the same thing Pop has done for years.
 
I would not be opposed to that at all. Pop is the man. He would do it.

The game is not nationally broadcast and it's OKC v Portland so I doubt the commissioner would give two shits.
 
No. We lay down for no man, man. Maybe if we had 5 rings, but we don't. We're not on that level. The concept is ludicrous. How are we supposed to get in playoff mode if we rest our starters against the premiere team in the west the past 3-4 years?

"We have no chance"? Please. That's just being scared. Grow some bollocks.
 
We will see how they respond this Saturday. Maybe an ass whoopin every so often is beneficial. Of course this time they get two nights of between games and the one in January they only get one night off.

Either way I would not do it. Just play your bench more minutes. There is no way the bench could play the whole game.
 
Rest them at Houston instead.

If we're up 30 going into the 4th, then sure, give the deep bench a run.
 
I don't mean "don't play them". Just rest them.
 
It's not a bad idea. We'll have to see how it plays out. This Blazer team is a lot younger than that SA team. As Stotts said, it's hard to know when to pull the plug. Anytime you have LA, DAME, WES, BATUM, LOPEZ on the court, you've got a solid chance to win.

No. Our guys aren't old like Duncan and we've been very good at second games of a back to back. It's important that we win the season series against OKC if we want the #1 seed. We also don't have a bench good enough to even attempt such a move anyway.
 
By the way, that stretch is only brutal if you're a crappy team with a crappy record on the road. We have the best road record in the NBA. Those teams should fear us. Not the other way around.

4 games in 5 nights is brutal even if it's Mil/Utah/Phi/Orl.
 
Now THAT is an impressive road win. The Spurs rested or sat due to injury Duncan, Ginobili and Parker and still won AT Golden State. That is a bench that can contribute and step up when needed. I'd be happy with 1/2 of what they have in terms of the ability to contribute.

Best shot of winning them all while resting players is rest them against Dallas.
 
I'd rest them in a heartbeat.

Is it just me or has our schedule seemed pretty unfavorable regarding how many games we play in X amount of days?
 
I agree with Kingspeed that the Spurs do it because of age. Our guys are relatively young. They do not have to play heavy minutes, but I think it is too much to ask to sit any of them. Lopez is the only one I would be really cautious with.
 
This is not an old team like the Spurs. Pop rests his guys (especially Timmy and Manu) because they need it.
 
I mean seriously, on what planet will Damian Lillard be cool with "resting" against a Division Rival?
 
It also needs to be said that the Spurs know exactly what it takes to get to the Finals (and occasionally win there). The Blazers haven't earned the right to take nights off.
 
I don't like the idea; two of our slowest starts have come the game after the starters got to rest in the 4th. I think the team plays best when they play their normal minutes. Small sample size, I know, but it's something to think about. Who do we play after OKC?
 
Well we fired our old terrible medical staff so hopefully the risk of injury are much lower. I say we play the team like normal but if the Thunder get up big early then pull the plug.
 
Yes, because we haven't rallied from huge deficits this season.
