Simons is legit

I don't like this. It means you have to deal with paying them when their rookie contract expires, without really figuring out their Ceiling.

Man... None of us know what's going on behind the scenes. Cats need to earn minutes! Dame earned his and had the opportunity to get his from Jump.

CJ was behind Wes until Wes got hurt.

Layman...

Thomas Robinson got minutes until...

Zach is earning and getting GREAT minutes in his 2nd year.

Who didn't get minutes Pat C?

He didn't earn them and was replaced soon after.

I get it. Its just that most championship teams tend to have at least a couple solid contributors on rookie contracts. Seems like we don't usually know what we really have until after we are forced to make a move.

I “assume” Stotts is developing guys behind the scenes (or the staff as a whole) and that guys are given the opportunity to earn minutes.

It was my opinion that Simons shouldve gotten a few more minutes in the regular season, to see what he looked like with the lights on, but assuming he gets minutes next year then I suppose thats fine, he wasnt projected to play.

Anfernee is getting plenty of Action in the Development League, where he belonged last year. Which is really great.
Once he dominates there, then we can start playing him more with the big boys.

Relax guys... He hasn't even had a Summer League yet.

Let him get Summer League MVP first.
(I'm predicting this and frankly, I'm pissed Zach isn't playing)

Baby steps...

Simons actually played really well in last years summer league.

Im pretty relaxed about it, I just wouldve liked to see Simons play more NBA minutes.

People have forgotten how little our bench was used at all under Nate and even previous Blazer eras....Nate ran our starters into the ground and Jermaine O'neal barely played his rookie years here. He ran BRoy into the ground..Stotts plays more young players and end of the bench guys than most coaches...even in the playoffs...I don't get the narrative that Stotts doesn't play rookies....Dame was a starter under Stotts ….Simons did play...even Skal played. We didn't blow out enough teams in wins to let the bench play the end game last season and we didn't get blown out so they could play when the towel was thrown in...games were pretty close. Bench players have to love being on a Stotts team..if they want to win. Sure they could play on shitty teams and get more court time. That's pretty much where we've picked up our vet projects from. Players just play better here than many places they move on to. We're not even talking about high draft picks here...Jake Layman played more than Meyers did last season.
Simons played? When? He had 2 games with meaningful minutes outside of the last game of the season. Skal had 0. Jake Layman got benched for no good reason and it took Stotts far too long this season to stick with him being a part of the rotation.

He doesn't suck as bad as Nate in that regard? Okay. Nate isn't relevant.

Here is a question for you junkies out there who want to win so bad ...
Would you trade Anfernee Simons + ET (or Moe or some other pathetic contracts we have) for a solid 3 or 4 ? (can't think of any name right now). Or let's just say Pascal Siakam ( + some contracts to make the numbers work ), since his name is still hot ...
So, instead of trading our 2019 first rounder, we trade Simons ... + Bad contracts

You are not making sense at all in this post.

"Never trusted him? Prefers ET? No other explanation?" What are you talking about?

"Never trusted him":

Rookies that are drafted outside of the lottery have to earn trust. Trust is rarely given to a rookie.

"Prefers ET":

He is thin as a rail right now and won't be able to successfully defend until he gets stronger.

"No other explanation".... Here's one:

Seth Curry is better.

Exactly my point, perhaps my choice of words was poor. Stotts does not "trust" that Simons is better even though he has shown promise. Maybe he will be a superstar but not now. Still needs reps though, more than ~1:20 in the 4th of a blowout.

No, you're wrong. Stop spinning it.

Stotts had a better iron than Simons. Plain and simple.

I really don't care to debate Nate's relevance or Simon's court time....I made my point...I would expect you to find a Stotts glitch somewhere in the narrative...I've already read those posts ….Simon's played garbage time and a few sub minutes...which was my point..he played. My talking points are my own...you've expressed plenty of your own Bones. Jake stunk up the last 3 or 4 times he was in the rotation after a great year...he didn't end the regular season playing very well...and I liked his game. In the playoffs most coaches go 8 deep....Stotts used most of his bench...I say Stotts gives bench players more opportunities than most nba head coaches pretty consistently...Rodney Hood just took Jake's minutes

The Blazers are dog's ass lucky any time a player of Simons' caliber falls to them. No I would not mortgage the future for some mediocre forward.

Yet he shouldve taken Evan's or Moe's.

Stotts went deeper because he was still making the silly mistake of starting Moe and Chief who gave us nothing from the 2nd round on. He went 9-deep to play ET who was horrible in the playoffs and somehow thats a credit to Stotts?

Jake had a 3 or 4 game slump amd was immediately discarded in favor of worse veterans. Thats exactly what the complaint is.

Stotts was and never will be perfect but he sure is making his haters work pretty hard reaching to find things to complain about.

I mean really really STREEEEEETCHing. Now he didn't play a kid enough.

Like the saying goes, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. Unfortunately some are assholes with opinions. :devilwink:

Name a rookie under Stotts who played extensive minutes his first season BESIDES Dame? When it comes to players like GT, Simons, etc. they all sit their first year and Stotts and his staff develop them pre-game, post-game and throughout the year.

We have one of the best player development staffs in the league, a majority of our draft picks turn into NBA caliber role players. I'll gladly take some of Stotts' shortcomings for his ability (along with the staff) to turn late 1st/early second round players into contributing guys.

Oh by the way....we don't get out of the 2nd round if Stotts doesn't play ET.

We get it Bones...you've got a YouTube channel and played basketball thus you know more that a seasoned NBA coach. Doesn't mean every thread needs to turn into a Stotts-bashing bonanza.

Meyers his first season played extensive minutes

I guess the shoe fits in my case. I've had plenty of time to form my opinion and finely tune being an asshole.

Meyers his first season played extensive minutes
He did play quite a bit. Maybe more so because of the lack of centers on the roster. JJ Hickson and Meyers at center with Freeland and Aldridge as PF's.
The Blazers had 7 guards that year. They seriously were playing small. They also played Victor Claver quite a bit as a rookie though he was a euro and had more experience.

Zach when got in the rotation last year he was average about 16 to 20 minutes a game. But Stotts put his young players in not to fail so they start not have confidence in their self's. I think Simons will be legit NBA player and seems like got stronger at the end of the season and that was his biggest problem last year was his strength.

Simons seems to be a quick study and full of confidence....he'll crack the rotation before most rookies

Naw, you're far from that type. It's the ones that think they are experts and think they know more than those actually in the business.
