OT Sinclair Media and KATU - This is extremely dangerous to our democracy

That’s about as relevant as me (or anyone else) saying that maybe the problem is that the millenials are just simply shitty listeners.....Care to try again?
I'm just going to blame cell phones and texting and leave it at that

That's exactly what management at Nike would tell their employees most likely. We were even told the same thing at the bodyshop I worked at. In the event of any media attention we were told not to be interviewed and direct them to our media relations person.

Geez! No wonder I could not figure out what the heck your post meant. Trigger? What Trigger?

Hey, f' you and the horse Roy Rogers rode in on.

Fair enough. Just like people refer to most young folk as millenials, I'd say the same thing applies to boomers.

But if you didn't think that it was WAY easier to own a home in Portland then I'd say you'd be mistaken. I'd wager to say lots of boomers voted for it too. They owned homes too and majority of them are opposed to taxes.

I've never minded paying my taxes when it all comes down to it.

I know people who own small businesses who pay less than their fair share 'cause they cheat. Now that pisses me off.

Trigger was Roy Rodgers’s horse (Dale Evan’s horse was Buttermilk). Learn your cowboys (and cowgirls), then post.....

Quick quiz - Without looking, what was the name of Gabby Hayes' jeep?

Nellie Belle.........and it was Pat Brady’s Jeep, not not Gabby Hayes’. Jeez, I used to look up to your generation but apparently the only thing you guys retain is water........

After reading this thread I found no surprises in each posters political inclination. However, I am at loss to find whose democracy is referred to as being in "extreme danger" per the thread title. I would be grateful for a clarification on this matter.

Communist countries and dictators use the media to control what information is available to their citizens. Sinclair is leaning towards that direction.

I understand completely that Facebook, Twitter, Google and Youtube are trying their best to subvert the 1st Amendment. My question was what "democracy" is in jeopardy.

We will just have to say we have a difference of opinion as you can likely figure out the answer to your question and have likely already figured it out. Have a nice day.

No one? I really would like an honest answer as to what democracy is in jeopardy.

I nick named my first car, a 1969 Volvo, Nellie Belle. I thought Roy Rogers and somewhat earlier, the Lone Ranger were the tops. I also liked Sky King and the Song Bird.

As a side note just to show you how ancient I am, I remember getting my first taste of the Lone Ranger as a radio show along with Boston Blackie.

TVs had small picture tubes that were round and something like 6 inches in diameter. We always had to go to the house of a friend of my dad and watch the fights. Gillette and Hamms dominated the advertising.

122, 140, 164 or 1800?

Dark Blue 144 from Immer and Oswald in Gladstone.

I've done a lot of work on that car. Mostly on the distributor but also timing, gapping the plugs, cutting off and replacing the muffler, rebuilding the carburetors in my wife's kitchen sink, replacing the brake pads, endless washing and waxing, changing the oil and flats. Changed a flat once without the aid of a jack or ramp or hydraulic lift. Drove up on an old tire but stands under the axle and kicked to old tire out leaving the car up on jack stands. Yep, it can be done. Learned that from my dad fixing a flat tire on his '63 Chevy pickup when he had no jack. I think he used some cement blocks we had in the back of the pickup for jack stands.

I kind of went back and forth between calling it Nellie Belle and Photon.

I used to get that little four banger up to 105 going back and forth between Portland and Corvallis. Of course it was on the downhill side of I-5, North bound, just as I entered South Salem. That was in my stupid years. Hard to believe but yes I was once stupid.

During my stupid years, I got my parents Olds Cutlass up to 130 coming down that long hill on Hwy 26 near Banks, or at least I think it's near Banks. The hwy to Vernonia intersects at the bottom of the hill. Don't tell me I wasn't stupid and I've got the ex wife to prove it.

What year cutlass?

What year cutlass?

I don't recall exactly but it was probably somewhere around '72. The thing was vibrating like hell as I approached top speed. One of the many dumbest things I've ever done.

I've been caught drinking, twice as a driver and once as a passenger when driving somewhere. First time was in Portland around 1966, the officer stopped me and then asked me where I lived. I told him accross town in in the West hills. He told me to follow him to my house which I did. That was that.

Before I get to the second time, one time I was driving home drunk and did a 360 while driving up Broadway Drive. Dumb beyond belief.

The second time was when I was a passenger in Florida. Three of us were cruising around looking for something to do when this one guy directs us to a business that was closed for the night. We drove around back and there was a beer vending machine that you could drive up to. It had a sign that said you had to be 21 to use the machine but we just laughed and put in a series of quarters and bought cans of beer at 25 cents each. We then got stopped by a police officer. As the conversation progressed we started laughing and he started laughing. He then told us to drive slowly and carefully home. You'll be amazed to believe that's just what we did. That as also about 1966.

The third time was when I was renting my mother's house in Lake Oswego. I had been drinking that night and was on my way home. I got about half a block from my house when I got stopped by a policeman. I'm sure he could tell I was drinking heavily but I think it was the same person that lived a half a block from me as kids. He later became chief of police in Lake Oswego. I told him where I lived and he let me go.

I hardly drink at all now, Maybe One drink every 2 to 4 weeks. On special occasions, I might have two and once every couple of years or so I'll have three. My wife and I take turns driving if we're drinking.

You'd never get away these days with what I got away with nor should you, but I thank those officers for letting me and my friends go.

Good people can do stupid and even bad things. That doesn't mark them forever.

Am I a good person? I try very hard to be but I know I miss the mark here and there. Whenever I fail in that endeavor and I realize it, sometimes much later, I regret it.

Geez, there's my life story. Oh, not all of it. I've done other dumb stuff and I've got the ex wife to prove it.

I've done a ton of stupid things and got lucky nobody died. Which is why I don't judge FIRST time offenders too harshly.

72 was the last good cutlass in my opinion.
