Skip Bayless at it again: LaMarcus "still has too much Portland Trail Blazers in him"

Is he wrong?

Portland is small time, and hasn't done anything since the JailBlazers to garnish anyones attention.

As much as everyone in Portland wants to have a kumbaya moment, no one nationally really gives a shit

The problem is that he is implying that Portland somehow makes a player worse.

Did Rasheed have too much Portland in him when he won a championship with Detroit?

Any struggles LMA may be having have nothing to do with him playing in Portland.

If anything playing in Portland should've readied him for these moments when he needed to be the man, 100% on LaMarcus.

Obviously Roy's menisci wilted under pressure.

And Oden's knees.....

Our lack of success since the early 2000's doesn't have anything to do with wilting under pressure.

I took it as him referring to the series against the Pistons, when we beat them their to split, and the Lakers when we had a huge lead, and the series against the Rockets when we were a higher seed.

This is what National guys see. Not saying it's right, just what they see

I know it's his job to say ridiculous, outlandish things to get people talking about him, but the narrative that Portland is "small time, not worth anyone's attention, always wilts under pressure" is just tired and frustrating. As much respect as the Blazers have earned though this year, Skip seems to flush it with a few words. I'm sick of that shit.

One possible way to read this that would be true and wouldn't necessarily be an attempt to denigrate the Blazers completely, would be to assume that LaMarcus is still too inclined to shoot the mid-range shots instead of driving to the hole. We've all said it before, but that's been an issue with LA forever. He's happier taking a jumper, even a contested turn-around, than he is to work to drive it to the basket. Stotts, and Nate before him, both tailored their offenses to fit what LA likes to do, rather than what the team sometimes needs.

Then why do we bother, MM? I personally am rather sick and tired of being patted on the head like a schoolchild and being told "there, there, young man, at least your team tried. They tried hard! They should be commended for that. But they can't compete with the big kids. Now go back to the corner.".

I'm old enough to remember a Blazers title. It was magical. It was incredible. And the afterglow was savagely ripped from our chests, and the wound continues to fester 40 years later. Every time it seems the wound will heal, it's ripped open again. And then we are told that it's all we can expect in a world of haves and have-nots.

A lot of teams are like that though. OKC hears it. I know radio guys here talk about the Rockets as a have not franchise since Hakeem left. The difference to me is the bully effect. National guys say stuff about a lot of franchises, but Portlanders are so God damned sensitive about their team that it gets to them, so the writers and commentators keep doing it

It's not ok to be ok in the NBA. You are either good, bad or in purgatory. Portland FINALLY got bad enough to get Aldridge, Roy and Oden, and it may have worked had our GM not ignored medicals. The we got bad enough again to get Lillard, the 11th pick and McCollum. Had we done better with that 11th pick we may be further along

Winning 40 something games and getting that kumbaya moment is what Blazer fans want. Congrats, we are stuck in purgatory because no FA worth a damn will sign here. Stars win in the NBA, and Portland has 1 1/2 of them

Obviously! Since being like a woman is the most degrading thing a man can be. Well, except maybe being gay.

Funny, most of us LOVE a guy called "Dame".
Reminds me of a boy named Sue by Johnny Cash...I named him that just to toughen him up

I always found that nickname kind of funny. Makes me think of Dame Judi Dench, but then again, she played M in the Bond movies and was totally bad ass.

As for the LaMarcus "too much Portland" in him...maybe that was our secret plan all along!

IMO Aldridge has too little Portland in him. Compare the effort the Blazers have shown, they are on paper way overmatched. If the series ends tonight and I hope it won't, it may look like an easy GSW win, 4 games to 1, but anyone who saw knows that the Warriors had to give it everything they had against the Blazers.

Dammit I want a Game 6, at least.

Reminds me of an article about a woman who found a stray calico kitten, named it Sue, since 98% of calicos are female. Surprise! It was the 2%. So she had a boy named Sue. True story.

MY NAME IS SUE! HOW DO YOU DO!! NOW YOU GONNA DIE!!!!

Exactly!

Haha that was my fear too making the playoffs this year. Everybody knows that.

But your right on, unless your a big time city most likely our type of market doesn't attract free agents but we'll see what happens this summer

Would you consider it a compliment if someone referred to you as male?

We will, but in reality, we've seen this summer play out every other summer in history

Would you consider it a compliment if someone referred to you as male?
No. Why would I? When MarAzul said "god gave you a dick and an instructional manual", thinking I was a gay male, I assure you I was not complimented. (I still am curious about the instruction manual that men supposedly get, however.)

But when men refer to other males, especially athletes, in female terms, it is meant as an insult. He's soft, he's weak, he's not mentally tough. He whines. He's like a woman.
When female athletes are referred to in male terms that is also meant as an insult but for other reasons - she's not a "real" woman because she is too tall, too strong, too talented athletically. She's not like a man, really, just supposedly pretending to be.

Skip apparently discovered what Bill Simmons figured out years ago. Say some stupid shit about the Blazers and the fans will FREAK OUT.

Exactly. You don't think he heard how upset some fans got when he said Dame wasn't a star? Skip knows that most fans across the country view him as a complete dumb fuck. He doesn't care. He and Canzano are cut from the same cloth. Somehow they make a living by saying stupid shit.

I've never considered soft, weak, not mentally tough or a whiner as traits dedicated solely to women.

This I like.

Which is why nobody uses LaMarsha as an insult, yeah? Oh wait.

Well, LaGreg doesn't have the same ring to it.... or LaCindy.... if anything, he's really the most like LaJan, but that just doesn't sound good at all.

Hyuk hyuk hyuk... you know what I mean though. When you want to call a big man weak in a clever way, you give him a girly nickname. LaMarsha. Brenda Haywood.
