I love the snow and daydream about getting snowed in which is why I'd love to spend the night at Timberline Lodge in the winter. Of course, being tied to going to the hospital four days a week negates that. And no, I will never get three days off for the rest of my life.

My wife loves snow, though she's never experienced it on the level of what some of you guys have to endure. She gets all giddy when the skies are grey and the temp nears freezing down here. We don't get much snow in central Georgia and if want to see something comical, visit us on the rare occasion when there is an accumulation of the white stuff...and watch us try to drive a car in that stuff.

I have a friend who's from NE Tennessee...he has a "chalet" that is situated on the side of a small mountain...he says that he learned the hard way that he must park his car sideways next to his house when it rains//snows...otherwise, his car may slide all the way to the bottom of the hill.

Not shitty drivers, just different drivers than we are.
We could never pack that many cars on a freeway and have them drive over 70-80 mph without blinking an eye. They travel at 80 mph and even faster at nearly bumper to bumper darting in and out of lanes without thinking anything was abnormal. We could never do that.

Every time I come back to Portland nowadays after living in Socal for a while - I am driven mad by people's inability to drive like they mean it. The entire place seems like it is a bunch of blue-haired grandmas driving to church in a 1970 Cadillac.

Bingo! Only now those blue hairs drive Camrys (usually gold) or Prius’s. And I think Diver’s Ed went extinct at the end of this past century. But just keep in mind, a very large portion of those shitty drivers moved here from SoCal......just sayin’.......

Driving in S. Cal. is like anything else, you get used to it. However, when you first experience it you think "This is nuts."

Portland drivers do not have a clue how to use the on ramp to match freeway traffic speed, and merge without causing problems.

CA drivers are far better drivers, going forward, especially on the freeways. But, they do not have a clue how to back up with a trailer.

Funniest day of my life was at a marina in S CA. It was the 4th of July, with a very long line of people trying to launch their boats.

Sat on a bench drinking beer watching the endless line of jacketknifed trailers on the ramp. With several boats floating in the bay with no one in them. Several did not know to hold onto the painter line to keep them from floating away. Never laughed soo hard, for soo long.

Im amazed at how many young gals mostly drive and text at the same time and my biggest pet peeve is how all young people like to tail gate, even when the traffic is moving along at a good pace.
My Bro inlaw is a retired City of Portland cop and he comments on how texting has created many preventable accidents.

Yeah, that new law that increased the fines big time (and can cause you to lose the right to drive) certainly has had a positive effect, eh??? Seems like every other driver has a phone to their ear. Do they even make cars without blue tooth these day?? You'd think it didn't exist......

I blame the cops for selective non-enforcement in general when it comes to women violating traffic safety laws. Every woman driver I know has been "let off with a warning" at least once, many several times.

My wife has never been let off and she speaks broken English, much better now thanks to me. Her two sisters and one brother have not improved in all these decades. Her two sisters got out of a few tickets by feigning a worse level of understanding English than their already poor level. One sister has a husband who speaks what some of us call baby talk. It drives me nuts but my wife has ordered me not to say a word about it.

My wife is a very good and very careful driver. She's never had an accident that was her fault. I've only know her to get one ticket in nearly half a century. I guess I'm not bad, I haven't had a ticket in about 15 years (2005).
