Tax returns aren't a clear picture of much of anything.

You won't know how much he made in equity as Trump Tower gained in value. Or what his solely or closely held corporations and LLCs made, spent, and filed on their taxes.

Neato boogeyman though.

Nixon released his to prove he wasn't a crook. That should say it all.

Nixon hardly had the global portfolio Trump has but hey......he was a crook

My answer to the thread is hell yes, I want to see them. Why? Seriously don't trust the guy....next

It would be fun to go through many of the Hillary email and Wall Street speeches threads and see if some of the opinions on what a presidential candidate/president should disclose is consistent to opinions expressed in this thread.

I'm guessing mine and @JFizzleRaider's are.

JFiz, you seem to be arguing that it is better if the public has less information, because information can be misinterpreted.

That seems to me like a really, really bad argument. Plenty of examples of countries that follow that line of thinking... not many of them you'd even want to visit, much less live.

barfo

they don't have to release their taxes because Trump didn't we're going to be fine with that right?

That's what I thought.

Al Gore will be glad to release his taxes when he runs in 2020

It's gonna be hard to find a good democrat to face trump in 2020...the list is pretty thin.

OMG he had losses!

(He wants to, so he pays less tax)

Etc.

This isn't information useful to the public.

If you want to know his financial status, you'd need to see the P&L, Balance Sheets, and Statements of Cash Flows for all his businesses.

I don't think it's all added up in any one place.

I am all for the public having information. I just don't see why it matters what they have on their tax returns.

Albeit, I could be biased because I look at tax returns everyday.

Thanks Obama!

When he took office, the Dems had 60 votes in the Senate and control of the House.

Now look at them.

Sorry to say you couldn't still have the House right now to at least hold Trump to some accountability.

How do you know he had losses?

Heck, it might be more interesting to see his checkbook register and whatever other bank accounts he has.

Like we know he sold $40M worth of stock over the summer and that's all he had in the market.

Back in the day, he was given a $450,000/month allowance by the companies that took over the Taj Mahal, et al.

Come on dude, if Hillary had refused you'd be outraged and posting a 1000 reasons why she should.

No I wouldn't be. I didn't bother to look at them, as I already know it's pointless.

The media didn't hire accountants to dig through her returns. We heard how much she claimed she made and how much she paid in tax and to charity.

All the dirty dealing was done with the DNC, donors to the foundation and all that anyway. Wouldn't show up on HER tax return.

Exactly. The returns proved nothing.

This is a pretty absurd argument. The same can be said about voting records, prior statements or many other things that people have done. If you take the idea that if you do not know everything about someone partial information is useless - might as well have door a and door b and choose randomly and live with whatever is on the other side.

Given Mr. Trump's claims of a vast financial empire - any information that is available to know about potential influences, conflicts etc is relevant information.

It is absurd to claim that someone is a crook because of what you think you know of them - but being willing to forgo information about someone else and claim that this information will not provide any information.

That one's not passing the sniff test. Revisionist hypothetical history.

The tax returns won't tell you what you seem to think. They're designed to show as much allowable losses and for things nobody running a business would otherwise care about.

His PERSONAL tax form might be incredibly small, though I suspect he has enough LLC type things that he needs to list.

As I said, the real information is in his P&L, Balance Sheet, and Statement of Cash Flows.

Bill Gates took a $1M salary his last year or two at MicroSoft. His tax return might have said he made $1M and paid $250,000 in tax and not much else. If you want to know about how much stock he owns and in what companies, that would be a Balance Sheet thing.

So the tax returns are not "partial" information or even useful to make any other judgment than he paid x% in tax and $y to charity.

Useless.

You read them.

If you didn't, you asked for them for no reason at all.
I didn't ask for them......I said they are here....anyone can read them....nothing hiding..like Trump seems to be doing
