So NOW do you understand what I'm talking about??? We are a better team this year.

I agree that city size doesn't have much to do with it, but quality of team DOES. Until we're a quality team we will NOT sign a marquee free agent. Monroe is not a marquee free agent, and MIL was in just as good a spot as we were, and arguably better. Only when we make the WCF will we be a destination.
What constitutes a marquee free agent in your book? Just curious cus Monroe is having a big year. Seems like a good signing even at the price. 19th in PER for the whole NBA.

You are basing marquee more off name recognition then impact on the game maybe?

My problem with DeRozon is he has always seemed like a chucker to me. Like Crawford and Nick Young. I am sure his percentages are fine it is the shots that make you go WTF occasionally.
His percentages aren't that great.

62% from 0-3ft
47% from 3-10ft
43% from 10-16ft
35% from 16ft-3pt
22% from 3pt

And he has a fairly even distribution of attempts from everywhere in 2pt land.

.541 TS%

Lot like Dame, but no 3pt production. Not even a threat to help with spacing. The whole geometry of our attack would change if he were to join our team. Would Terry be able to cope with that?

He isn't a true max guy. Problem is a lot of players are going to get max who shouldn't. I would pass on him for max but at some point you have to bite the bullet and go for someone.

I think the biggest confusion is individuals definition of Marquee or MVP, or game changer.

Marquee game changing players in the league that are not of MVP caliber? Not sure of any. SO who are the MVP's of the league?

Durant, LBJ, Rose.. These are guys of the past though.
Right now, I think our best bet is to go with potential. I don't know if anyone knows who the next ten MVPs are. Wall? Davis? Drummond?

I think those are guys who would come here with the right surroundings and promise of 4-6 years of being a solid winning and contending team.

I dont think any of us know who the next marquee players of the next decade will be. Seems there are a bunch of all stars already, and I think some of those are gettable, again, with the right surroundings and situation. One of these all stars will be an MVP though...

I don't have a hard definition for a marquee free agent, it's one of those things where you know it when you see it. At worst it's a #2 option on a winning team (Pippen, Wade, Kobe), but even that doesn't guarantee marquee status. Merely being the best free agent in one particular summer does not constitute being a marquee free agent. Last summer LMA was the only one who could possibly be considered a marquee free agent, and then only in name not in deeds.
Whoever they are, they aren't gonna sign here until we've at least made it to the WCF.

I can roll with that. I would put Mark Gasol with LMA though. He just had no publicity, because he basically said he was resigning with Memphis and didnt want to leave his home town, so there wasn't any fuss. Mark was just as big though.

To your point, I totally forgot he was a FA! And Marc > LMA.

I'm sorry, there is a two-word minimum to be welcomed to this board.

10 days ago I said we'd be 12-20 on the morning of the 27th. Wish I was right about this one, but we might be 11-21!

I'm trying to say "I wouldn't say Portland is too small a market to attract FAs." and "The Blazers' money is as green as anyone else's."

Greg Monroe signed with Milwaukee, a smaller city than Portland, and a team without anyone near as good as Lillard.
The problem I see Portland having is that nearly every team in the league is going to have significant cap room this off-season. They aren't automatically disqualified from somehow luring a player, but I wouldn't bet that way.

If you have the space to sign TWO MAX or near MAX FAs, you might sign a LeBron and Bosh to join Lillard and CJ.

Neil's plan.

Trade Henderson and Crabbe and cap space for derozen.
Trade Kaman, Leonard and cap space for Brook Lopez ( maybe a filler of Alaexander or something)
Draft Sabonis.

Look at that lineup!

Dame/Frazier
Derozen/CJ
Aminu/Harkless
Vonleh/Sabonis/Davis
Lopez/Davis/Sabonis

I think that's serious upside with already being a playoff team.

If the cap is supposed to go up to 90 million and we have 56ish million in space (unless we renounce Leonard and crabbe) how can we sign two max guys? Aren't they making 25 a year?

Just curious. Where did Plumlee go?

OOPS!! MAJOR OOPS!!!

Let me recap...

Dame/Frazier
Derozen/CJ
Aminu/Harkless
Vonleh/Sabonis/Davis
Lopez/Plums/Davis

Davis may be another included in order to nail down Brook.

I will throw option B out there. Dont trade for Lopez and just sign Whiteside.

Sorry, that team looks about as bad as this team. A bit better when Lopez is able to play, but still stuck in the middle of nowheresville.

While we're at it, since we're proposing unrealistic trades, how about they trade a future 1st round pick to Philadelphia for both of their picks too?

Wow, 54% is actually respectable. I've noticed his poor shooting percentages as well, but his saving grace is that he gets to the FT line alot. Of course, that would all change when he got to Portland.

54% is the same TS% as CJ McCollum. Dame is 54.5. But Crabbe is doing so good, I"d rather just resign him.

Swap Lopez for Whiteside. how do you feel now?
Maybe worse? Swapping Lopez for Whiteside we're right back where we are now with only two guys (Dame/DeRozan) who can create offense. At least with Plumlee he's able to distribute some nice passes to the rare cutter - not sure Whiteside does that.
Basically, if Aminu/Vonleh are part of our starting unit we're gonna suck.

One thing about Derozen though, is if he's a slasher, that would bring a new element to the team, because right now Dame is really our only player that attacks the rim.

In the Miami game, Whiteside had plenty of offense. The kind we have been missing and say we need. In the paint dunking offense. I think we are way better.

If we do trade for Lopez, we would still have money to sign another key player though.

I didn't get to watch the game - and actually haven't seen him play at all this season. But from what I recall all of his offense was assisted. Can he create his own shots/dunks now?

Yeah, for the most part you are right. They were put backs or assists, but he is still dominant. Put Meyers, Davis or Plums in that position and they can do half of what Whiteside can do around the rim... both O & D.

Go watch it. He was a one man wrecking crew early and then Bosh lit it up from outside to end the game. But Whiteside... wow...Had a triple double against Minni earlier

Oh, I'm in favor of Whiteside - but we have to get rid of Vonleh/Aminu. Those 3 would be awful together.
