The Hornets are actually a very good example. They have now won 5 straight and are in the 6th seed as well. Their starters are Zeller is in his 3rd year, Kemba Walker is in his 5th. They got a player from the Blazers and have two role guys coming off the bench in Kaminsky and Lamb. That team made moves and used draft picks to improve. Last year 33-49. this year already 35-28. Perfect example. No worries. The thing is, the narrative about the East "catching up" has been based on the improvement at the top, not in the middle. Nobody cares if their mediocre teams are .500 instead of .450. And though there has been a large number of top-10 picks in the East over the past 5 years, the teams that are doing well aren't doing so on the strength of their contributions. If you want to laud the incremental improvement of the 6-15 teams ("Hooray Hornets! 5 years of top 10 picks have you in the 6 seed!"), you're welcome to do it, but it doesn't impress me much until/unless those top-10 picks actually contribute to a contender.
