Playing for Team USA???

One name that won't be on the list is Portland guard Brandon Roy. Sources said, after discussions that included Roy, it has been thought best Roy not play during upcoming summers due to possible wear and tear on his knees. Roy underwent knee surgery before last season, and his health has remained a concern.

Blazers edge

i always wanted to see him play in the olympics but im not heart broken

I am in no way a doom and gloomer when it comes to these things... but IMO Brandon Roy will not be long for the NBA.

I couldn't agree more. I think Oden, Roy, Bayless, Batum, Aldridge, Joel, and Travis outlaw will not be long for the NBA.

Yeah, you hear about career ending hamstring stains, but you just never think they'll happen to you . . .

Kobe went 4 out of 6 years where he missed 16 games or more due to injury in the early 2000's. Now he's an iron man (tonight not withstanding)

Brandon will figure it out. It's only his 4th season. Honestly, I don't know anything about Brandon's off season work outs. I don't know anything about who he trains with, but my guess is there's some room for improvement there - I don't think he's working with the best people right now. He (admittedly) didn't train much this susmmer, and he was out of sync in the first month or two. He said he thought it best to rest after a grueling season/post season.

He'll find his Tim Grover, or whoever to work out these muscular issues. Injuries happen, but there's a reason why Brandon's Hamstring hasn't fully healed since last season - And why he gets tendinitis in his knees. Brandon Roy will be in the league for a long time. He may endure injury plagued seasons, a lot of great players do. But to say "he's not long for the NBA" is preposterous. Look at Grant Hill. He was mess for how many years? But b/c he's a great talent he's hung around.

thank goodness.. F the olympics!

Nothing to do with his hammy.

He came in with bad knees and 4 years in there's obviously already some concern.

I don't give 2 fucks about team USA and couldn't care less if they never won another medal, but I bet Roy does.

Speaking of preposterous...

Can you give me examples of all the great players who's careers are injury plagued?

Also, using Grant Hill's career as an example does not exactly warm my heart. nor does it prove your point.

Did you read the original post?

The decision (and this thread) was based on concern for his KNEES, not his hamstrings.

What do you consider not long? A 10-12 year career? How many player's careers are actually shorten due to injuries? And you think Brandon is one of those very few? Based on his injuries 6-7 years ago?

Considering Brandon does not rely on his speed or leaping ability to be successful, I am guessing you are wrong.

I would bookmark it if I thought this board would be around as long as BROY will be.

Another B-Ball Diva turns his back on his country.

And doesn't like the National Anthem, either.

I'm seeing a pattern here.

He's already been here 4 years, so he has at most 4 years left after the FBI starts the midnight phone calls.

Blazer seasons:
4 Walton
5 Lucas
5 Wicks
6 Petrie
8 Drexler

Obviously I read the original post Ed. That is precisely my point. How many games has Brandon missed in 4 years because of his KNEES?

MJ had tendinitis in his knees, so has Kobe. Pippen played the 2nd half of his career with a bad back/knees. There isn't a superstar in the league that doesn't deal with aches and pains. I'm a little concerned with Brandon's durability, to tell the truth. But the guy isn't brittle. And he hasn't missed HUGE chunks of games.

I'm no trainer, but I think Brandon could benefit greatly from working with a top notch fitness guy like the MJ's, Kobe's, Lebron's, & Wade's do. I don't think he's done that yet. And I think it catches up with him over the course of a season. But they seem to be more nagging than serious.

Which of the above players retired from international basketball before they started?

I'm not sure what your point of view is.

Who said anything about International Ball? I was responding to your "Brandon Roy will not be long for the NBA" comment.

Message board is hard isn't it?

Brandon Roy has retired from international duty before he was even asked to play because of his knees. Knees that were a concern before he was drafted.

You are the one listing players with nagging injury. You are the one that brought them in as evidence of nagging injuries not being an issue not me.

Nagging or not, it never caused them to skip summer activity.

This is not a nagging injury issue with Roy.

If your alarm bells aren't sounding that's fine.

Mine are going off at top volume.

Brandon has been asked to participate with the US Team each year since he joined the NBA.

He has declined each year.

Isn't it obvious what's going on here? He's scared they're going to find out about his KENYAN BIRTH CERTIFICATE!!!!!!!!!

Define "great players".
I would include Bill Walton, Penny Hardaway, Arvydas Sabonis just off the top of my head.

Define "injury-plagued". I would NOT include Brandon Roy in any definition of the term.
