You'd have to offer the Kings more, maybe Vonleh or CJ or future picks but Boogie is a game changer with Dame in Portland

Maybe it's just me. But they just fired his favorite coach and our team just fell a part. I would definately be thinking ahead if I was Olshey.
do we really know that was his favorite coach?

Yeah. Now that you figure it, where are we hearing this? And besides, I think a newly married player who's starting a family might want to stay put. Now that I think about it. But who knows with modern athletes?

I don't know what there is out there he can do. I was thinking he was just going to save the cap space for next year but then I noticed there are only two interesting UFA's out there for 2016 and we are not getting Kevin Durant. That leaves Mike Conley. And since there is not much out there, why does any team have much incentive to dump a bad contract on us and give us a draft pick? Or especially to give us a good median aged player for space and junk? So now all i can think of is saving the cap space for 2017, and i don't even know who is available then?

And I see 2017 might be a little bit more interesting...http://www.spotrac.com/nba/free-agents/2017/

There are still quite a few teams who can offer KJ more than Houston can afford. They all seem to be waiting until the last minute. Is this to make it more difficult on Houston? Anyways it seems like KJ is on everyone's radar.

I for one am expecting Neil to give us a better team, and record, than last season's team.

Pretty sure that's what he was hired to do.

Helluva party bro...but next time you should invite the rest of us!

Sure but his agent will probably go with the highest bid/most potential playing time. No one can match Portland there. That is if Olshey is interested. Which he fucking should be.

Sure as long as we are offering 10-20 million per. But isn't that a little high?
In the 7 mil range KJ would have options. How much did you want to pay him?

The Spurs have a great system. They build from the D league and international market more than any team. Not a bad example to follow. The money needs to be directed at the best coaching staff and support staff money can buy. When you have a system that is transferable, like the Spurs do. You just plug in the right pieces and you're there. Look at what Coach Bud did with Atlanta after being Pops assistant. Instant results. I want a better defensive coordinator and an elite big man and pt guard coach on the bench. Kerr did it with Gentry. Doc did it with Thibbs, Every great franchise had a great defensive coordinator on the staff. We really don't.

Ron Adams, you mean. Gentry was their offensive assistant.

If the Blazers can find a great defensive mind, that would be great. An unemployed one doesn't spring to mind, though (other than Thibodeau, of course, but...yeah ;)). Maybe they can hire someone away.

My bad, you're right, but Gentry has a defensive skillset as well. Thibbs, Laimbeer..my number 1 and number 2 choices to start.

As it stands now there are 5 teams that can afford to pay him 7. One of them is orlando who's loaded on the wing. Another is philly. Doubt he goes back there. That leaves Utah, Indiana and Portland.

I would go as high as 8.

Oh and maybe Phoenix?

Edit: nvm they're under 7

Is KJ really that much better than Alonzo Gee though? Gee is a very good defender too, athletic...

I think so. Plus you're not really paying for what mcdaniels is. You're paying for what you think he can become. Gee is like 6 years older.

When mcdaniels got consistent burn (small sample yes) his percentages went way up.

I'm kind of souring on the idea of giving KJ a contract. If we could get him for a couple mil, great, but to give it to him 7 mil because he's "athletic" is a stretch for me. The only good numbers his put up are the 2 blocks per 36.

And it's a small sample size. Look at Elliot Williams who was super athletic, and looked like he could be a great scorer after his 1st year, but he's not panned out.
