He's not the same player he used to be but he can still play and mentor Jerryd Bayless.

This player would also make life easier on Brandon Roy, Greg Oden, and LaMarcus Aldridge.

The player I'm talking about is Jason Kidd. He has a huge expiring deal and would instantly make us a better team. He may be up there in the age but he's still a huge upgrade, even if he is a stop gap. Obtaining him would be more about the development of our core.

A package surrounding LaFrentz/Blake/Sergio works under the cap.
 
Dallas got him (giving up Harris in the process) as a desperate bid to win now. I think it was a poor move, but Dallas is going to play that hand. They're not going to trade him for a mediocre point guard in Blake and a thus-far disappointing prospect, dooming them this year for sure and giving them little for the future.

LaFrentz will have essentially no value to them, since Kidd also expires.

I don't think Jason Kidd is the character type people want on the Trail Blazers.

I can think of almost no reason why Kidd would feel compelled to "mentor" anyone, if he comes to a team he's going to want to compete for a position and minutes, not be a player-coach. And shipping off Blake and Sergio leaves this team completely devoid of any depth at the 1, for a player who's best days are far, far behind him. Bayless is going to get better (or not) through coaching, practice and playing time, not by sitting around J-Kidd and absorbing tricks of the trade through osmosis.

I see this as a step backward not a step forward for us and Dallas; both teams are back to square one at the conclusion of the season in search of a starting point guard.
 
If memory serves me correctly there was recent negotiations with New Jersey by KP in an attempt to obtain Kidd. This was of course before he went to Dallas. Anyway I think the deal fell apart when Kidd announced he did NOT want to play in Portland. After that KP dropped the idea of obtaining Kidd.
 
I am not the biggest Sergio fan, but I wouldn't give him up for Kidd straight up. Kidd is done.
 
Terrible idea. He's a wife beater so that's that. But Roy doesn't want to play with a guy who demands the ball. Roy talked about how it was hard to play with Chris Paul in the All Star game. Getting Kidd would not make life easier for Roy. Roy wants the ball in his hands.
 
I'll also say that about 10 months ago, I was totally in favor of getting Kidd. But now? Terrible idea. What were his playoff averages in April? Horrible, if I recall.
 
Speaking of Kidd, anyone think the Nets might be good this season? They've put together a decent team: Devin Harris, Yi, Brooke Lopez, Najera, Dooling, Jarvis Hayes, Boone, and others to go with Vince Carter. They could be the surprise team this year. Provided Devin Harris is all that.

I think we'll surprise people. The fact that we got that huge package for Kidd still makes me laugh. Thing is, the package we got for Kidd was even better than the Portland one. Hell, the only thing that could have made the Kidd situation any better was if we got Bynum for him, and even then, it's debatable.

Well I am a masterdebator and getting Bynum would have been the best thing for you guys...thanks god that didnt happen :ghoti:
 
The picks would have been lower, but our record would probably have been worse, so our own picks would be higher.

Plus Bynum wouldn't have Kobe, PJax, and Kareem mentoring/motivating him.

That is not a good team. The Nets aren't going anywhere this season.

Watching Kidd last night he showed he can still play at a high level.

He's exactly what this team needs. Even Brandon Roy was playing with high anxiety the other night, Kidd is a calming influence and can only help players, even Brandon.

PG is our biggest weakness right now. Bayless isn't ready yet. Playing with Kidd would tremendously help Bayless. Blake isn't a starter, period. I've been saying that for two years now.
 
we might be able to get him on the cheap this offseason, same with allen iverson.
