SPURS @ BLAZERS - GAME THREAD - 11/02/2013, 7:00 PM - KGW - HOME OPENER

I like our Big 3 (when they're playing like this) against any Big 3 except Miami... There's just no stopping LBJ.

So do people believe me now when I say that Phoenix was a fluke because we don't play well against them?

I will say you were right about one thing - if Nic continues to attack the boards and pass like this, I will be a lot less concerned about his inconsistent scoring!

When your Big 3 includes LeBron, you can bet that it's a damn good Big 3.

Back from the game. I'm really disappointed in all of the empty seats. In the last five home openers, there have been very few to none. Crowd wasn't even really into it like normal until the second half. Is it Moda Health? Japan's radiation? Legal pot just across the river?

On the plus side, I got two McMuffin coupons and our section won free french fries.

Oh, and something about the team winning. I blame Nate. Too many threes. Batum didn't show up. Meyers didn't play defense. Refs.

Miami is 1-2 and on a 2 game losing streak.

If the playoffs ended today, we'd be in. It means nothing, but I'll take it any way.

What's great is this team should just get better as they play together more.

This many empty seats on opening night was odd.

I don't remember even the Telfair-era Blazers having such a mediocre opening night turnout.

I would just like to say, I know people are dogging on Mo a bit, but his 13 off the bench was huge. We need that scoring off the bench desperately. He hit some big shots when we needed them. Maybe he's a ballhog, but I also think Stotts has given him a green light. As long as they're high percentage shots, I don't really care if he takes them.

Nice win! The bench is definitely much better than last year, which is huge.

But this team is still giving up a lot of points in the paint. The outside shot is great when it's falling but it's less consistent than inside/fastbreak scoring. This team has a lot of shooters though, so hopefully they won't all get cold at once.

I know many of you don't think it's a sport, but I wonder if many people were paying more attention to the Timbers and their first MLS playoff game in Seattle.

You're probably right, but I also think it's going to take some consistent winning to win back the front runners this year.

Aldridge= best big man in the NBA, Lillard= 25 ppg, Batum- triple double machine

What team has a better big 3 than that? We have two of the top 9 Scorers in the leaGue.

Aldrige is not the best big man in the game. Top 5, yes, but no where near the best.

That was Batum's 3rd triple double of his career. That would be one messed up machine.

If you'd like, you can see what other teams look like. That might give you the right perspective.

Mo-Chuck came up big, finally. Batum was big. Lillard and Aldridge are all stars. Lopez was (and is) big. Wes was big. Even Freeland was doing work, hustling, playing defense, and boxing out so others could get boards. Fun team and a fun game!

Last night it was too many 3's, tonight it is too many outside shots. All I know is they scored 90 points tonight inside the 3 pt line. I was impressed with the shot selection tonight

Am I the only one compulsively clicking re-load page to see if the Forensic Fan's post for tonight's game is up yet? :ghoti:

Another thought on outside shooting....teams who rely on fast break baskets in the playoffs, often suffer. Because those easy baskets are taken away. Having an abundance of outside shooters is not a bad thing. Right now it seems like too many of us are leery of it.

Freeland has played solid but the backup bigs have been a pile of meh so far.

Umm... The only other "big" is Trob. Therefore, this comment makes no sense. If Freeeland is playing solid, then ONE big is playing meh. Just saying.

Has Mo really earned that nicname after three games?

That's what the Blazers are good at, that's their offense. But I think nights where their shot isn't falling they're going to look more like they did against the Suns. They're giving up a lot of points in the paint and transition points.

Yeah but isn't that true for almost all teams? (When their shots are not falling)

As for the transition points allowed, I agree it needs to get better. But A lot of it has to do with the tempo they are playing. SA rarely gives up that many points, or scores that many. So maybe the tempo is a factor. Not sure to be honest.

I meant it only half tongue-in-cheek, and in a semi-endearing way. Mo is a chucker, pure and simple. I think that's what he's supposed to do, although I haven't personally asked Stotts if that's true. Tonight Mo-Chuck was on. Let's hope he has more games like tonight. At least he takes his shots within the flow of the game, and he's also willing to pass, unlike a certain Craw-chuck whom I despise.
