Tonight:
G. Oden C 21:00 3-6 0-0 0-0 -14 1 4 1 1 0 0 0 2 6
J. Przybilla C 21:53 0-2 0-0 0-0 +2 2 6 0 2 1 3 1 3 0
We should send them both to the D-League. Lousy, good-for-nothings. START IKE!!!
Really? On nights like tonight, the only rebounds he gets are the ones that come directly to him. Most of the time he gets boxed out or doesn't jump quickly enough to get the difficult rebounds.Oden is 10th in the league in rebound rate, sure it would be nice if he was #1(that's currently Joel btw), but to say he's lucky to grab 4-5 going way to far.
I stand by everything I said in that thread. I still believe Oden will be a good player, and maybe even a great one, but right now he blows big time.
well oden is top 10 in the league in rebound rate, so i'm not sure criticizing his rebounding is the way to go.That doesn't explain his terrible rebounding and defense. He should get up and get his own touches off the glass.

That's part of the game. Oden has to figure out how to get rebounds despite the defensive schemes used against him. He's stronger than most centers in the NBA, and he has in incredible wingspan. It's about time he figured out how to use those traits to his advantage. As for rebounds? Strength and long arms sometimes fail you when you have two-men boxing you out and hanging on you because the other team has a coach that recognizes that other players on the Blazers team rarely help Greg on the defensive glass.

i also think that oden(and big men in general especially young ones) plays better defense and rebounds better when the team actually gets him involved in the offense.

I'm still behind Oden. I wouldn't be suggesting ways to motivate him if I weren't. I want to do whatever it takes to get his butt in gear, and that may mean a demotion to the D-League. "Standing behind" a player doesn't mean you ignore the obvious problems with his game, or pretend that everything is fine when it isn't.You said, "We're behind you all the way, Big Fella."
And a few weeks later, "But apart from that, no, I don't think the season is lost--but Oden certainly is. He doesn't seem to have a bleeping clue about much of anything... I'm just tired of making excuses for the guy, and his act is getting old."
Yeah, way to stand behind him all the way... big fella.

Bingo! Great post, Eric. Oden can make things happen by hustling and scrapping and playing his heart out, but he's not doing that. I would like to see him get the ball more, but I think he WOULD if he was running harder, boxing out, and playing with some fire. It's very disappointing to me that he plays so lackadaisically on many nights. We shouldn't have to get him involved. He should get himself involved. I remember about 6 years ago when Zach Randolph was emerging. He could get 20 & 10 without having a single play run for him. He just get all the garbage. All the put backs. Scored on hustle alone. And grabbed every rebound he could get his hands on. That's what I expected from Greg Oden. I don't need the 20 points but I want him to be able to produce without plays run for him. Grab a fucking rebound. Block a fucking shot. That "rebound rate" is so meaningless. If you watch the games, you see him missing rebounds he should get.
Frye. He can be far more effective than Greg Oden was tonight. Remember how he played when he started the end of the season?
rebound rate isn't meaningless at all. it gives you an estimate of the percentage of rebounds he gets when he's on the floor. We shouldn't have to get him involved. He should get himself involved. Oh for fuck's sake!
Yeah, that was pretty hilarious. We should replace Greg with Channing who doesn't rebound and shoots jumpers. At least when he was playing he was getting more touches on offense than Greg. That's a pretty sad indicator of how misused Greg is on the offensive end.
He "progressed" backwards tonight.. . . so like I said, as long as he is progressing . . .

I guess we should be applauding Oden for the way he played tonight. What were we thinking?bipolar much? I thought this thread was a joke when I clicked it. Some of you are sooo far out there...
Because it's easier to free up somebody for a jumper than it is to get someone in low post position. The Blazers need too look at how the Suns get Shaq posted up and start running some plays for Greg.
He "progressed" backwards tonight.
I said a short time ago when he was playing well, I said it months ago - He's a rookie coming back from microfracture surgery and he's going to be inconsistent ALL YEAR. I knew a good five game stretch would make every giddy again and then after a few unproductive games we do this all over again.
I wonder what next week will bring.
And you're obviously one of those guys who writes long, run-on sentences with no punctuation . . .
But apart from that, no, I don't think the season is lost--but Oden certainly is. He doesn't seem to have a bleeping clue about much of anything. Even if he's not touching the ball, he should be a monster on the boards. But instead, he's lucky if he can snag 4 or 5 rebounds on most nights. I'm just tired of making excuses for the guy, and his act is getting old.
