Stauskas?

You guys are upset right now because he was signed in the first few hours of free agency. But if he was added late with this minimum contract in say August, it would be a different story. He has nothing to do with Ed Davis. They simply added a shooter for our bench. We need some.
He better be able to drain it . I remember seeing him hit open looks , but why didn't he get more playing time? Especially on the Kings, and Nets. Was he hurt?

This stinks to high heaven like a bunch of "Money Ball" bullshit. Going for "Value" instead of skill.

Trent Baalke would love Neil Olshey.

I have known this for three hours and I still can’t get how you can possibly have Stauskas as your first signing of free agency, minutes after you’ve let Davis go because you would not pay him $4.4million.

Well I guess free agency is over with, outside of picking up some undrafted free agents this is our team. Sure glad we got this guy before the Warriors got him they had to resign Durant because we got to him first.

I think he was picked up to Make us appreciate ET

You may be onto something. Turner will now look better, making Olshey look better. Olshey's a genius!

I could bet a lot of money on the words "Reclamation project" and the example of Moe Harkless to be thrown around when NeO will speak about this.

But seriously: I'm assuming this is just hiring a cheap mentor for the 19-year-old rookies?

On the bright side he is a 6'6" guard, something we haven't seen much of on the Blazers. I'm sure wingspan and standing reach are very blah though. (and I hope he has brough his body fat down since the draft, when it was one of the very highest.
Here is a positive spin on him (however since he was traded shortly after, how much credence does it have?) “Right now, he has as much ‘game’ as anybody on our team, in the wings,” Brett Brown was saying Wednesday, before a game against the Atlanta Hawks. “He can put it to the floor. He can make a three. He can make a pass. He can run a pick and roll. I am now making him a point guard. I am just ruthlessly on him on his defense. I’ll never let go of that. And slowly, I think that, too, is getting better. He lets me coach him. And I just think for all those reasons, he is really having a heck of a year. And I think he’s going to keep getting better.”

People were interested in Mario Hezonja, so instead Neil brings in another guy with a Europey sounding name with much worse stats.

Why do we need another guard with what we did in the draft and Balwin looking good. ?
This is a mind boggler to me!!!!

Is this our big move of the Summer? Is it really time to blow it up after getting the 3 seed? I’m atleast excited to see our rookies play next season.

This is nothing like moneyball. It's the exact opposite.

Moneyball looks for good players who contribute and it shows up in their advanced stats. Ed Davis & Lopez were both good moneyball aqusitions.

Nik has ranged from average to atrocious. Dumping Pat, who is a better player, for Nik is a bad move

I will admit it, I was very high on Stauskas before the 2014 draft.

So far, he has been a disappointment. But many, if not most, of the players drafted in 2014 have been a disappointment. Few have reached their projected "potential".

Coming out of college, Nik had many of the same skills as Simon. Maybe that is why my optimism for Simon reaching his "potential" has been cautious.

I wish Stauskas well, and hope this is his breakout season.

Shooting 40% from 3 isn't a skill?

Cool. A less athletic pat...
Apparently, you haven't watched video on Stauskas. He's a better shooter and just as athletic or more than Pat. However, Pat is apparently the much better defender...

Davis can't shoot, Stauskas can. I don't necessarily agree with the logic, but there it is.

Been around much? This year is unusual. In most years, there is VERY little action until the big dogs sign. I don't expect us to make a move until LBJ signs somewhere. You shouldn't either.

Maybe we, as the favorite, got swept in the playoffs because the Pels double teamed off all of our non-shooters. Moneyball would say get more shooters, and that's exactly what we're doing.
