Stauskas?

Been around much? This year is unusual. In most years, there is VERY little action until the big dogs sign. I don't expect us to make a move until LBJ signs somewhere. You shouldn't either.

The off-season is the epitome of driving in Portland in the winter. It’s like we forget to do it every summer and are screwed the first snowfall of the season every year.

I don't know if I agree with the notion that the team has improved it's shooters.

-Ed who can't shoot at all
-Pat, .352 3fg%, which is league average
-Shabazz, .376 3fg%, but is supposedly too expensive.
+Stauskas, .400 3fg%
+Trent, "best shooter in the draft"
+Simons, good 3 point shooter (can't find his stats in a quick search)

Check Stauskas career stats tho.

over a 25 game sample size. Career, he's 0.350 which is worse than Pat.

Nik also shoots <40% on 2pnt shots. He's a terrible player

See my above post on him improving every year. Also, I'm not sure what you expect for a vet min player.
I expect to go after the best player for the money available.

Pat is a better player and better shooter than Nik. Pat is going to be available for the minimum too.

I'm all for upgrades, but this ain't it

That's your opinion... it also happens to be my opinion, too. I can't really figure it out. I wonder who Nik's agent is, and who that agent's other clients are. Just a bit confused, and don't think an Olshey explanation will enlighten me much, lol.

All I know is Nick Pie was 7.2 and Pat was around 5.2 last year so to me Nick slight up grade to Pat.

Shooting 40% from 3 isn't a skill?

Last season, coaches put Stauskas into only 41 games. He averaged 1 3-pointer per game made, in 12.8 mpg.

Shooting .400 or .350 or .300, to make 1 basket, really won't make a difference for us.

His 3-point percentages in his 4 seasons have been .322, .326, .368, and .400. It peaked last year because they had him shoot nothing but 3's. 66% of his FGs were from the 3. Just to get that one basket.

Prediction: Nik Stauskas will be this preseason's Anthony Morrow, who despite his career.417 3FG%, we cut just before the regular season started last Fall.

I looked up Morrow's preseason stats. Morrow shot the 3 at .462, wow. Also, I liked Briscoe, and he did well in Europe.

His agent is Mark Bartlestein. He also represents Zach Collins and Jake Layman as well as several former Blazers. Looking at the list of his clients I didn't see much that stood out in terms of free agents but there are several interesting trade candidates. It's also interesting to note that he also represents McDermott and Joe Harris who signed pretty big deals last night. It's possible Olshey was interested in the other two but their price got too high.

Now that I think about Morrow...He has a much higher career 3-point percentage than Stauskas. If Olshey wants a memorable summer to really hang his hat on, he'd triple his summer free agent production by signing Morrow.

Who will join me on the Anthony Morrow bandwagon? Make Olshey's reputation great again!

We kept Layman,
We gave Hunter a shot on our SL team,
Now we've signed Stauskas.

Either Bartlestein owes us big, or he's blackmailing Neil! :)

Dude needs to just deliver Jabari Parker to us!

Speaking of Jabari Parker...

I just posted on the TPE thread about helping out the Bucks by just taking on salary since they are hard capped now but what if we helped them out in a different way. We do a sign-and-trade for Parker and then take on a bad contract too such as Dellavedova. It would be EXTREMELY tricky to do so and stay under the tax apron since we'd be hard capped too and would require Nurk taking the QO but what if that is the reason Olshey couldn't give Davis even $4 million because that would make the sign-and-trade impossible?

Let the conspiracy theories commence!

I can barely even PRONOUNCE "Stauskas."

It sure doesn't roll off the tongue. Takes me 3 seconds to say.

He did have a a 22 point game and 18 point game but his problem is inconsistent in his shooting and now I getting to believe he was sign and play until Trent or Simons are able to take over.

Maybe this has been talked about before...but assuming that the 4.4M no-Ed thing was because of money...

NO could have cut and stretched Meyers for 21.8M over 5 yrs. Or, 4.4M/yr, roughly. Follow me here...

If this is the "no-tax, cheap year" and they know they're going to be taxed the next 2, then they could stretch Meyers for 4.4M this year, get Ed for 4.4M this year, and have saved 1.8M on this year's cap. Now, they still would have a 4.4M-a-year cap number until 2022-2023, but that's fine, because we have a 2.8M cap hit from Nicholson until 2023-2024.
