Stauskas?

I heard that during the 2016-17 season Olshey called the Bucks about Parker and they basically said something to the effect of they would only trade him if our end included Dame. Um, hell no, but then he got hurt again so his value has plummeted.
Okay, I did the math on a Jabari Sign-And-Trade, it only works if Nurk takes the QO (which I still don't think he does) or if the Bucks don't make us take back Dellavedova too. Assuming for the sake of this discussion though:

Blazers currently have 15 players on the roster if you include Nurk, Simons, Trent, Stauskas, Layman, PapaG, and Baldwin. If they made us take Dellavedova with the TPE then we would have to cut $4 million somehow to accomplish this. The easy solution would be if Parker accepted $4 million less than whatever we traded them. So lets say it was Evan Turner (just an example) who makes $17.68 million in 2018-19 then we could sign Parker to a 4 year deal with raises starting at $13.68 million. I'm not sure if that is enough to get it done, maybe considering his injury history. We'd have to cut one player or trade someone before the start of the season too, we just couldn't take on any extra salary because we'd be right at the line and hard capped.

Is Parker good enough to warrant this type of move?

Maybe this has been talked about before...but assuming that the 4.4M no-Ed thing was because of money...

NO could have cut and stretched Meyers for 21.8M over 5 yrs. Or, 4.4M/yr, roughly. Follow me here...

If this is the "no-tax, cheap year" and they know they're going to be taxed the next 2, then they could stretch Meyers for 4.4M this year, get Ed for 4.4M this year, and have saved 1.8M on this year's cap. Now, they still would have a 4.4M-a-year cap number until 2022-2023, but that's fine, because we have a 2.8M cap hit from Nicholson until 2023-2024.
That would be WAY too much dead money tied up. It's not worth stretching Leonard.

his name is SteakSauce

That helps! Thanks. That's what I'll call him until he's waived at the end of preseason.

Similarly, I delayed learning how to spell Przybilla for his first year. Everyone else avoided that by calling him Joel all the years he was here, but I persevered and learned it.

Speaking of spelling a preseason tall SG, it's Cobe Karl, not Kobe Karl. If Olshey's big summer get is Stauskas, why doesn't he bring in Morrow and Karl.

Morrow signed a non-guaranteed training camp deal. It looks like Stauaskas is fully guaranteed so I doubt they would cut him.

Really? Wow, another mouth-wateringly unbelievable Olshey genius move to paint himself into a corner. This board has the carving knives out to cut SteakSauce.

I can barely even PRONOUNCE "Stauskas."

It sure doesn't roll off the tongue. Takes me 3 seconds to say.
Once you master the "auskas"...adding the "st" is pretty easy....think of a short way of saying Australian Cousin....auskas

It's easier to say Steak House than Steak Sauce. This will be useful wisdom if he lasts beyond preseason. If you like him, nickname him A-1. If not, call him Worcestershire.

There's a new cuss word in Portland:

Stauskas, that hurts!
Oh Stauskas, I forgot to pay the rent.
Listen you little Stauskas, I am gonna kick your ass.
You are BANNED. I TOLD you not to type the S-word on this forum.

Ok I don’t know who’s going to want to hear this, but I’m...down for Stauskas?

It didn’t take much to sell me once I did some diving.

1. He’s played for the Kings, the 76ers, and was a throw in for Brooklyn. He’s never really been in an ideal situation. He spent one season in Sacramento without a defined role. In philly his playing time was up and down. Then he was a throw in in the Okafor trade and was buried on the depth chart because Brooklyn already had guys like Harris, Crabbe, and Lavert ahead of him.

2. His numbers are actually encouraging. The more he plays the better he shoots. Last year when he got 20+ minutes he shot over 45% from outside. The year before 38%. Now he’ll most likely not see 20+m in Portland but I think it’s more about confidence than anything.

3. He’s actually bigger than I thought. 6’6 1/2 in shoes.

4. He might be more than just a shooter. Better athlete than I thought. Terry will give him the freedom to find out. Looking at his college tape, he can handle the ball a bit, and showed some potential in pick and roll situations, which could be why Portland preferred him over Pat.

This was a move worth making, especially for the minimum. I think he’s going to surprise.

He's so bad defensively nothing else makes up for it. -4.0 BPM last year... Quit putting lipstick on a pig, he's not a good player.

He is already arguably our 3rd,4th or 5th best outside shooter. We will find out soon enough.

Just some advice: I fact check everything you say, so if you’re going to throw stats at me, make sure they’re correct.

People are only crying because it happened the same day ed left. I don’t see any downside to this move. We needed shooting. And not just set shooting. Someone who can also move without the ball and shoot off curls, etc. We don’t have anyone (proven) like that on our roster outside of C.J.

Then as you know, they're usually right. I meant overall BPM, not defensive BPM.

Trent a better player with more upside. Stauskas is awful. Just because he can shoot doesn't make this a good move.

Which blazers team did you watch last year?

Trent is 19 years old. If he proves better, great. But to count on that from day one is foolish. Not even sure Stauskas is that guy either. We’ll see what other moves they make.

A team that was a Top 10 defense because they didn't have guys like Nik Stauskas playing. He makes Dame and CJ look like good defenders.

No they had Pat Connaughton playing who was generally a negative defensively. But unlike Pat, Stauskas can do more than occasionally hit a set shot.
