Stotts just gave one of the worst answers I’ve ever heard in a postgame.

Please tell me what are the miracle adjustments that stotts nneds to make that will actually take GSW down?? I am waiting.....

For a guy who sees his best player get taken out of every game with traps and double teams, you'd think Terry would atleast TRY changing coverage, but this guy makes adjustments at such a glacial pace. Terry is a fine coach. He runs good sets on offense and empowers players to do their thing.

But he's a horrific playoff coach. Outside of a couple gems he coached in this year's playoffs, we have evidence to show he is in so far over his head most of the time. We'd get so much shit for firing him this summer, but I'd get on with it. Dame isn't getting younger and this year can't be it for his playoff legacy.

Can't shake the feeling he's our Mark Jackson, and our Steve Kerr is out there, somewhere...

Thing is, they're not "miracle adjustments". The adjustments people are calling for--have been calling for for weeks/months/years--are pretty basic. And there is, of course, no guarantee that they would result in taking GSW down, but they would at least demonstrate an attempt to address the greatest threat posed by GSW's personnel/system.

This!

If there center going to pick up by half court why not try to trap him there with your center and also using the half court as another defender. Curry is turnover prone just as much as Dame is when he gets trap.

Honestly after game 1 this series feel very winnable. We just need to stop letting Klay and Steph walk into wide open 3s. For the love of god Stotts please

Hood probably deserves it, unless they really want him off the bench. He’s been good.

I think so too but I worry how it would affect the bench. If that means Stotts would expand Turner's minutes/role that terrifies me. If it means Layman or Meyers get in the rotatation to open the court(at least try)then Hood in the starting lineup.

I think the coaching staff will make adjustments for game two and possibly our offense picks up?
I know that Curry & Thompson will continue to shoot the majority of shots and will just have to see if they can stay hot?
Those two have proven over and over to be the best shooting tandem ever.
Game two will be closer and hopefully we can pull out a win?

I'm just fucking tired of it.

This is the FOURTH FUCKING YEAR that we have seen this type of defense against Dame. The Clippers, the Warriors, the Pelicans, the Nuggets...... they have all trapped Dame and we have seen our best player greatly diminished because our fucking coach can't figure out how to hurt the other team for trapping.

We are still running the same ISO hero ball offense. If Dame isn't going HAM and dropping 30+, or CJ isn't going HAM and dropping 30+, we lose the game. It's so frustrating to watch Golden State, who has very similar talent at the guard positions, running an offense that can get them open looks.

This is our THIRD time facing Golden State in the playoffs. How have we not figured out how to defend them? I understand that Curry and Klay can hit shots that are impossible to defend, but you can't give them wide open looks.

Terry STILL refuses to change the starting lineup. He stuck with that shitty Aminu/Harkless lineup for most of the first quarter despite getting into another early hole.

This isn't in-game adjustments. This is Terry Stotts refusing to make adjustments FOR YEARS. These are things we have been seeing FOR YEARS. Teams have been trapping Dame FOR YEARS. We should not be relying on Dame or CJ to go completely unconscious one on one to win us games. That's not a good or sustainable offense. This is the most beatable Warriors team I have ever seen and we could not take advantage. It's extremely frustrating and the entire league is laughing at us right now.

Kerr said in the post game interview he thought he could play more players in this series and possible go to a 10-11 man rotation.

That tells me he thinks he can get away with playing players like Jerebko, Cook, even a Jacob Evans or Damian Jones and still win. Doesn't seem too worried.

This is a HUGE issue. When Dame gets trapped, I see absolutely nothing to make them pay of it on a regular basis. They look lost, indecisive and confused as if it is the first time they have seen this happen. Teams are trapping 30' from the basket leaving the Blazers with a 4-on-3 advantage everywhere inside the 3-point line.....and yet there seems to be absolutely no plan to attack it.

You KNOW it is coming so how can they be so unprepared? (year after year) This is one of the most frustrating things about Stotts.

I don't think Golden State looks particularly beatable (at least by Portland). Sure, Portland didn't play a great game, but neither did Golden State. They looked largely uninterested and unthreatened. They weren't flying around like in the Houston series. Portland isn't currently seeing the Warriors at their best (and I mean even without Durant) and still lost by 20+.

It is frustrating that Stotts is making it easy for Golden State to go half-speed. They may not even bring Durant back this series, even if he's cleared to play, just to give him even more recovery time if Portland doesn't make things tougher on them.

Their bench looks extremely unimpressive to me. They look beatable to me. We just couldn't hit the ocean from the beach.

It took until the WCF for a team to finally target Kanter's PNR defense. If Stotts had kanter crowd the three point line Steph would blow by Kanter for 100% layups. Good coaches don't put their players in position to fail. We need Kanter on the floor and if he's going to be on the floor we have to live with Steph shooting 40% threes or whatever. You have to pick your poison against great teams/players in the Warriors/Steph. They attack your weaknesses. Kanter is our weakness on defense and it's finally being shown.
Then maybe we need to only play Kanter when Curry is not on the floor? I don't know; but you do point out what is the crux of the problem. It certainly seems that Hoopsjock's idea of mixing up the defense would partially solve this problem, though. Maybe Collins needs to play more minutes? Maybe he needs to play more with Kanter and then try to hide Kanter somewhere else on defense? Not sure where.....

I wonder, does current ownership have enough stability, direction, and basketball acumen to do that? Outside of Olshey, who could convince whom to make such a move? I doubt Olshey even would. So who?

Agreed. Doesn't it look as if we never even practice against these traps? Lillard seems surprised every time and gets driven back; we lose a few more seconds off the clock and never do anything to make the other team pay for trapping. (oops, I guess Tpup said about the same thing)

We've all criticized the fuck out of him in every game we lost in the first 2 series..yet here we are. So I'm not gonna say shit after losing 1 game to the world champs in a 7 game series

Really??

I'm a damn homer.

Paint me yellow and cut my hair.

Stevie fucking Wonder could see how idiotic his pick and roll defensive scheme is.

HOW COME WE NEVER TRAP???

It works against us!!

HOW COME WE NEVER HEDGE???

It works against us!!

My 6th grade team that I COACH has a better pick and roll defensive scheme.

Yes I fucking said it.

I have defended Stotts but i cannot defend this and unless a small miracle happens and they find a way to slow Steph and Clay down then 1 thing will happen and then one thing prolly needs to happen. The obvious thing that will happen is the Blazers will get either swept or maybe they get lucky and WIN one game. Then what prolly needs to happen is a REAL REAL hard look into if Stotts is the right coach to lead this team in the future. I think Stotts is a good coach for a team wanting 1st to 2nd round playoffs series as there ceiling BUT i really question if he can lead this team to a ring excluding the roster questions aside for a moment. He either needs to be fired and let one of the young up and comers who are getting interviewed have the job but if one of the other guys get it they need to hire a assisant with HC and maybe someone with playoff success to help on the bench.

Even if they decide to keep Stotts i think they need to bring in someone as a consultant who can help Stotts when he really needs help or another PoV. I would say the obvious choice is someone who i am not sure even wants to be in the game anymore but ex-Blazer player and HC -- Adelman might be perfect for the role.

 Quite true and wonderfully ironic.

Close the thread down! The answer has arrived! (And its not just for practice!)

This is not true. They were using the drop coverage when Collins was in there also. Read Jason Quick's article. He said all of the players were questioning Stotts' strategy.
