Strangely depressed

I'm super-excited, too.

I think I've gone over the worst-case scenario in my head so many times that I can't be disappointed. I'm also a bit more optimistic (after accounting for the aforementioned worst-case) based on what the Blazers did last year at the draft by taking Sharpe.
What’s that scenario? I worry about a Toronto overpay situation.

He averaged 10 ppg last year. If he doesn't take a step, why are we dealing Ant then?
Agree. Sharpe , absolutely , needs to take the next step. If he can't there's no reason to believe he's that special. He becomes more developmental at that point. Special shows now. Or it doesn't. You don't draft at pick 7 to get a player who needs the G League.

And while Ant is good , he wasn't draft in the Lottery. When you're a top 10 pick , you're expected to be a big contributor sooner than later.

If Portland shoves Sharpe onto their new G-League team, more people will buy tickets to those games then the actual Blazer games at the Moda Center.

I think anything involving us sending the third for players from Chicago is the worst. Siakam is better than those options.

In my mind, though, "trading away from Scoot" is my worst-case scenario. Lots of other now-focused stuff won't make me happy, so I'll be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't happen :)

Don't worry Scooter is going to Charlotte.

Seriously though, it seems deliberate that we're pumping Scoot so hard. If we really wanted him I can't imagine we would have promoted him at all.

you saying Joe is rope-a-doping the Hornets and secretly wants Miller?

Definitely possible. Miller is a much better fit if we're keeping Dame.

Or.... we have more people interested in trading for Miller.

Who is "we"? Maybe I missed something that the Blazers said.

Just a lot more smoke about Scoot. I think Givony said that we measured him at just under 6'4.

Supposedly we brought Sharpe in twice for workouts last year. The videos that we showed of Scoot seemed better too. Just a lot of smoke about Scoot right now. Why would you promote someone that you're hoping the other team won't take?

Schmitzy likes Amen.

It seems like our front office is more transparent in their moves than some others might be. Everyone knew that we wanted to get Grant, and we got him. We seemed interested in Sharpe (as you note) and we drafted him.

If we are promoting him by singing his praises, I strongly suspect it's because he's very, very good.

Puke, I'd much rather have Ant and 3 then Ayton and Siakam. That team isn't contending and now we lost 2/3 of our youth. I'd be very upset with this.

Just draft BPA and run back last year's group is much better.
Ayton is youth.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Chicago came in and made a big push for that 3rd pick. Especially if Scoot is still on the board. Chicago is desperate for a rebuild and Dame and LeVine are tight.

There's your issue. You're putting an expectation on Shae, which I'm not doing.

However Shae progresses will be great, but I'm not factoring it into any decisions with team building this summer.

But you do you.
You’re making the decisions??? Fuck.

Coach Billups would bench Shaedon immediately after making 3-4 buckets in a row. It was like clockwork, Sharpe would start heating up then get benched for Simons.

Of course this circumstance doesn't apply to every contest, but it was definitely there. Billups did the same thing with Nassir, and even Watford at times.

After a tough loss last season, one of the post game reporters delicately hinted that Coach Billups used a messed up lineup, yanking the Blazers bench guys after Portland had stormed back into the game with fast paced young bench player action.

Coach Billups objected to the idea he was making rotational mistakes by stating the infamous "I'm riding with my guys."
I think coaches do that to get a perfect 3/3 five minutes out of a young player rather than a 3/7 ten minutes cuz he was left out there.

Giannis didn’t average 20+ til his 4th season. Dirk not til his 3rd season. Steve Nash did average 10 ppg or 6 apg until his 5th season. There’s middle ground between MIP and project in G League.

Bite your tongue!! That would be a nightmare. I didn’t even consider it being that bad.

I'm sorry. Hopefully by setting the bar so low it'll make our actual draft night better. Hahaha

I have NEVER been more stressed out over a Draft , than I have been for this one. Not even close. And it's because my favorite all time Blazer is being bandied about on National Radio, and thrown to the wolves in this Forum. My heart actually is struggling to deal with this. I've become physically disturbed by what i hear and read.

I get it. I obviously put too much stock into being a fan. But it's a labor of love. It's my escape from the world. I love life in general, but because of the meanness that has taken hold in our society, and our country , whether it be politics, or driving, or even going to the freakin' grocery store , i can't turn it off. Because i'm not wealthy enough to insulate myself from it.

Then i come in here , because i want to be excited about the possibilities of adding around this amazing Blazer, and way more than i thought want to just throw him to the curb for some young, wet behind the ears, dude , who doesn't know what it means to have talent. And how hard the work he is going to have to put in , to even sniff the success Dame has accomplished in Portland.

It's more than just the Blazers, or Dame. It's the decline of America. The "Flavor of the moment" that permeates our very existence here. No one seems to care about loyalty. Companies don't, teams don't, couples don't, fans don't .

Something that should be fun has become like everything else here. Polarizing, a battle, a fight, WAR. "It hurts my heart" is a slogan my mom, who battled her demons all through her life due to abuses growing up, and bad decisions as an adult , use to say. Because it really does hurt.

I took a hiatus from this forum during the season. Even though the season was tough, Dame ,until he was shut down, Again! provided amazing memories i will never forget. My daughter and i were at the Houston game where he scored 71. I will never forget it, or the feeling before the game. It was electric. He has given me, as a Blazer fan, more great memories than i can count. I've cried more tears of happiness because of his game heroics, time and time again.

I don't want his Era to end. I know it will when he retires. But it's entirely to soon to end his era as a Blazer.

I'm excited for this Draft. TO BE OVER!
Good post.

I disagree with many or most of your ideas of building a NBA team, or moves a GM should do.

But I loved reading your feelings as a fan.

Maybe you and many passionate Dame fans will be more happy stepping away from here and just watching the draft/free agency.

This is all just a stupid game we follow, so it should be fun. If it's not, yes try to follow in a way that's more fun.

Have a nice day.

Dame
Sharpe
Siakam
Ayton

Would be the best team we've fielded in a decade
I'm as big a Sharpe fan as any, but no he's not an average starter yet, he needs more years. Ayton is a video game addict. Siakam is fine but he's not pushing this team to another level, he could be one of the top4 but we need a 2nd 3rd level player brought in.

The WCF team even without Nurk still had better depth. Sure top4 might be better, but not enough to contend. I'm hoping to eventually build for more than winning a playoff game.

Because he’s about $10m more than what I’d pay him. I would rather wait next summer to see what Jarrett Allen will command, which is very likely if the Cavs don’t make it deeper into the playoffs next season.

Ayton is not a big enough of an upgrade over Nurk to warrant a $10m+ difference.

What’s the love affair with our chucker combo guard that doesn’t play defense
