Summer 2009

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

KP said the same thing on the Fan. I've been saying that because of either a trade or FA, the Blazers really had reason to force a trade today.

Yeah, I've been saying it too. Basically, KP was sitting on a great situation...as much as people (including me) wanted to see a great move, Pritchard had no reason to make a move unless it was a no-brainer. Standing pat still means having a very good, young and deep team with lots of options.

Here is a partial list of guys making $3m and less next year that do not expire next year - so there is some incentive for the team to move them to free some money:

Atlanta: Acie Law, Maurice Evans
Boston: Rondo
Charlotte: DJ, Alexis Ajinca
Chicago: Don't know anymore who is on this team - too many trades
GSW : Wright, Randolph, Bellinelli
Houston: Landry
Indiana: Rush, Hibbert
Ckips : Thornton, Mardy Collins
Bucks: Alexander, Elson, Malik Allen
Wolves: Brewer, Bassy
NJ: Najera, Boone
NOH: Armstrong, J-Wright
Orlando: JJ Redick
PHX: Tucker, Dudley, Lopez
Sacramento: See Bulls
Toronto: Humpris
Wizards: Blatche

The ones that stand out to me are:

1. from the Bucks - Elson/Alexander - since they are in financial problems - and this could be a way to do a pick swap + player for TE + money with them

2. Wizards - if they want to do the same

3. PHX - Always good for a pick for money / being cheap

Wow nice work. I like Landry out of those guys but don't see Houston giving him up or us really needing him

The price range is a relative issue in this economy. I can't hammer this point home enough. If you thought it was a buyer's market now, just wait a few months or even a year.

We'll just have to see and wait.

I don't think we're getting him for 7-8 million a year. Maybe in your world we will..but anything more than that for a backup PF? hmmmm.....

Please read up and understand what being under the cap means in terms of a trade this summer.

I guess it's just that I don't understand the meltdown we saw on this board today. It's like some reactions were solely derived from ignorance.

What does it mean? Where would I read that?

Cap space is imaginary, I've always contended it. We don't have THAT much I think.

What are our needs?

1. Point Guard
2. More experience at the SF position
3. Backup PF

So we need to address those with 8 million dollars in cap and a few players we can trade.

What reaction? That we had one of the best tradeable assets, a HUGE expiring contract that we couldn't capitalize on? If you don't understand why that's not a good thing, I don't know what I can do for ya.

Josh Childress and Brandon Brass if we can somehow wing it would be my preferences for the free agent market. For a trade if we can get back into the Wallace sweepstakes without giving up Batum I am for that trade as well.

What would you suggest to get back into the Wallace sweepstakes?

Not sure about all the love for Childress on this board.

For the Wallace sweepstakes I'd offer Travis, our first rounder, and taking back Mohammed if doable.

The love for Childress is probably because he is a good complementary player who does the little things that don't show up in the box score and he doesn't need plays run for him to be effective. He'll never block/steal/be incredibly high energy like Wallace but he is a good fit here I think. The guy who is always willing to make the correct, extra pass and will get the loose rebound. He is also a career 52% overall FG% and 36% from three. Although admittedly he has not shot more than 77 total threes in any given year.

We have a better prospect in Batum versus Childress.

I think Wallace would take more than that.

as i stated earlier, I think the only real target we can get back with our cap flexibility is an overpaid veteran that an underperforming team with a bloated salary would like to jettison.

Even $5 million under means a lot in a trade due to not having to match, but KP said today that they think they will have up to $13 million.

That's Richard Jefferson for a 2nd round pick this summer in a salary dump by Milwaukee in order to resign Sessions and Villanueva.:dunno:

If you don't understand the current economics of the NBA and what being under the cap this summer may mean for a man like Paul Allen, I don't know what I can do for you.

In pritch we trust? This isn't the Summer 09 plan I was promised in 07.

Under the current economics of the NBA, RLEC's contract is worth its weight in gold. Now its just worth some cap space...nothing more.

You are being both unreasonable and ignorant at the same time. Not a good combo.

You were promised being under the cap and being able to take on a contract while doling out lesser value. What has changed?

Major FA acquisition of another SF superstar. That's what people were saying in 07. Now we're at Ramon Sessions or Josh Childress? please.

The fact that you still can't figure out the trade ramifications of being under the cap shows me that you don't know a thing about the NBA. Goodbye...

EDIT - how do I put somebody on ignore?

You are basically an ignornant troll at this point. What happened?

not really, i actually believe what I'm posting so I don't know how I'm "trolling". I think its bullshit KP couldn't trade this asset for which we've heard about for years and years as part of the genius of Tom Penn.

SO:

List of possible Targets:

PG: Ramon Sessions
SG: None
SF: Josh Childress
PF: David Lee
C: None

anything else?

OK, so you're delusional.

In 2007 the same FA's were still in play as they are now. So to be promised a "SF superstar" as you put it simply isn't possible since there are no such stars available in the offseason of '09.

Although I will say this...

Back in 2007 the Lakers were in relatively bad shape, Kobe wanted out and KP knew his contract had a clause in it that releases him this offseason.

Perhaps KP wanted Kobe? A nice, far out, thought but nothing more at this point.

Are you going to figure out that players can be traded in the summer and what being under the cap means in that instance, or are you just going to continue to look like a fool?
