Is this year's Blazers Summer League team better than last year's?

2 completely unrelated theories:

Overhead cam: ESPN's best attempt at trying to simulate the view from video games??? That's what it looks like to me.

Swanigan: Looks to me like an out of shape guy playing on the second night of a back-to-back (which is exactly what he is...) Conditioning looks to be a serious factor in this game...
then what the heck is he doing? Guy should be in great shape to help himself/career and his team. He lacks in athletic ability so he need to make up for that in other ways like getting in great shape, not a good sign IMO

If McDaniels could hit the three consistently, I don't think he'd be fighting for a spot on an NBA team.

He looks in better shape than the end of last season. Problem is he hasn’t lost weight, he just added muscle. Not sure that was smart. He should’ve gotten back into the shape he was in last summer league.

Simons needs to hit that extra gear on the drive. He has it in him. Just too tentative.

Give Simons a year with Dame and CJ and I think he'll get that confidence. I think every point guard/combo guard has left Portland better than when they got here.

Bazz
Frazier
Etc

Layman is a summer league stud.

Collins, and Baldwin looked good, and like they'll both contribute well in the regular season.

Simons was much better than I thought he'd be.

Trent looked like he was forcing things too much.

Swanigan made me miss Ed Davis.

I think NO told Davis that Collins would be taking most of his minutes this year, which is why Davis left. Not Swanigan.

Jake Layman has been a man among boys in this SL so far. Again, the skillset is there. If he can continue this into the season, he will make himself not only a regular in the rotation, but a factor helping the Blazers going forward. His shot is so smooth. Man! I hope it translates to the regular season. Other than him, the play was real choppy. Baldwin was probably the second best player today. Swanny seemed alittle off his game today. Zach with some nice defense after a rough start, played better until getting dinged. Simons is still feeling it out, but his shooting is real smooth. The SL isn't too big for him at all. Good game. KJ McDaniels and John Jenkins provided some nice minutes as well.

I think I figured it out.... Swanigan has the body of Zach Randolph and the mind of Thomas Robinson.
Disagree.
The Good News is that he has the body of
240

The Bad News is that he also has the hands of that person.

Layman had a good shooting night plus some good defense. Wade did great job getting other players involved and ran the offensive very good. Zach had better offensive game but his defense was great with 5 blocks 7 rebs. Simon solid offensive but got little rattle at the end but it learning experience for him. Trent not good shooting performance but the other part of his game was solid. Swanigan look like his head wasn't in the game and still have trouble scoring inside.

Not saying he is as good, but if Jake Layman can consistently start hitting his shots this season, he reminds me a little of Bobby Jones. I know that's high praise, but he looks so in control out there. Granted SL action.

Baldwin 2 rebounds away from a triple-double in only 24 minutes of play....
