Well, that sure was a butt-kicking.
Lot of good things to take out of summer league, for what one can take out of summer league.
I think Baldwin has shown there's a place for him. There's reason to believe he can be a decent back-up point guard when he's not playing against the Grizzlies and pressing. He is a good defender and a solid and improving floor general. Good enough for 10-12 minutes per night? The way he dominated most of summer league, I think so.
I think Trent's shooting is good enough he can be a very effective situational fit. The way this roster has been constructed, we don't need him to be more than that, but, if he plays himself into more minutes, that's fine.
Simons showed me enough in potential to be giddy with the pick. I see a lot of Dame in him. He doesn't have the typical game, but he fits together what he does well, he's confident and he seems to have the attitude that will make him better. And he won't need to be rushed.
Not sure what to make of Layman. He didn't shoot as consistently at the end as I would have liked, but, again, he's being looked at for a complementary role at most. He at least came out with some things to build on and I think played well enough that he might have improved his trade stock slightly.
All in all, that's more important that actually winning the whole thing.
