Malcolm Thomas, #22 for the Jazz, is very good. Does excellent work as a PF, even though he's a little undersized. Could be a Dante Cunnningham type of player.

Exum is easily the best player I've seen in SL so far

Jabari and Antetokoumpo looked better.

But I can definitely see the upside in Exum. He needs a jumpshot though, otherwise his potential is capped.

Trey Burke is killing Exum's vibe. Dude is chuckin. Pass the ball, dude, Dante's better than you

Remember when Jerryd Bayless was summer league MVP and Batum was simply awful and a complete disappointment back in 08? We thought he was a couple years away from being a rotation player. Some blazer fans and analysts said he might want to stay in Europe to develop.

Remember when Batum then went on to start 76 games as a rookie and we won 54 games?

Just throwing that out there. Not trying to say anything about today's game, but summer league in general. Obviously you want guys to do well, but summer league is a much different style of play than actual nba basketball.

I thought Gobert should've went late-lotto.

He looks like he really can be a Chandler-like defender.

Utah has a NICE young core.

Yay summer league... where... no wait, it doesn't mean shit.

I think it does. Crabbe looks like he doesn't belongs in the NBA.

What doesn't mean shit? Mike Rice's observations of team scrimmages. He was gushing over Crabbe.

X-Man Exxxum can dribble, pass...and even shoot!

I think Spurs fans would argue that the regular season is meaningless.
Others would argue that it's meaningless until the finals.
Still others would argue that basketball doesn't matter at all.

Whatever.

Yay summer league... where... no wait, it doesn't mean shit.

His first-step and his ability to get to the rim - I really do see the Westbrook comparison.

Day 2 Grades

C.J. McCollum, Portland Trail Blazers | Grade: B
Even on an iffy shooting night (4-for-11), it’s easy to see why McCollum is a big-time scorer in the making. Rarely do you find a wing with this combination of size, shake and shooting ability, and perhaps more importantly, the smarts to use those skills and base an attack around threes and free throws. Making even your worst shooting nights palatable is an underrated aspect of being a quality scorer, and McCollum can do just that.

So apparently CJ had one bad shooting half in the first summer league game of the season. Guy's a worthless bum, clearly.

To be fair, he shot pretty badly last summer league as well.

I just find it hilarious that people say "Oh, he'll be the best of the class" after 1 game when it's a game that A) doesn't mean anything. and B) It's against mostly bench players and players that are trying to get into the 15th spot on the bench.

Yeah, but you can usually tell who has the tools to be a great player based on how they play. Exum has elite NBA speed, quickness, passing ability. His statline wasn't even that good. Guys like Bayless dominated SL, but he did it in a way that no one thought was sustainable in the actual league.

He's still very much a project, but for anyone that watched him play, how could you not get excited about how good he can become?

Because it's the Summer League.

Because it's the Summer League.
Or because it is high school, or college, or the fucking globetrotters. Nothing is the NBA regular season so nothing else matters? Why even watch?

PS, I think everyone knows it is summer league.

Oh yeah, tell the free agents playing that it doesn't mean anything. I think they would disagree.

Wait, what?!?!

We didn't trade Lillard, LA, Batum, Matthews and Rolo for Brown and future considerations?

Going into summer league I was most intrigued by what CJ and Robinson would do.

Overall, I was happy with CJ as I thought he played well. He showed good defense and was able to get open. I was definitely disappointed he didn't shoot better, though.

I was thrilled with Robinson for a while. He confidently took and swished midrange shots, was active, hit FTs, rebounded, provided energy. However, he also had 5 turnovers, missed an all alone dunk trying a double pump reverse instead of simply dunking, and then he fouled a 3 point shooter to which Stotts literally facepalmed.

I have high hopes for Robinson, but I really wonder when or if this dumbassery will ever end.

It is just summer league. TRob fucking around doesn't matter. Hmm, seems I have heard this point made before.....

This.

I get that he hasn't shown anything yet. All I expect of him is to be a decent 6th or 7th man. But I'm not going to give him the amount of rope I give Leonard. CJ needs to be a ball player by the end of this season.

Yep. I take nothing from the Summer League. It really does mean nothing except for the free agents trying to get on a team.

edit: body knows what's up.

Just say it like it is

The bench is still going to suck next year

Nice of Olshey to punt next season before it started. The Blazers are basically the same team.

I completely understand the lack of FA movement. While I don't like the people we did sign, we couldn't really sign huge difference makers.

What bugs me is that this draft was so deep, and teams were rumored to be selling picks, why didn't we get in on that? We need talent upgrades across the board.
