Rookie contract and restricted free agent contracts last 9 total years. So yeah we'll have to be patient because he can't walk until 2024.

I guess we can hope Minny trades him earlier in 2022?
He could pull a Monroe and sign the QO rather than an extension. He could also privately hold talks with the team telling him he's not staying on after his rookie contract is up, opening the door to be traded before a QO is signed. Why anyone on MIN signs extensions is beyond me...

Monroe didn't pull anything; Detroit wouldn't pay him the extension.

There's never been a player in NBA history who's turned down a max rookie contract extension.

NBA reduces 2016 free-agency moratorium by 5 days

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/15000181/nba-free-agency-moratorium-5-days-shorter

The NBA and NBA Players Association have agreed to shorten this summer's free-agent moratorium by five days, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press. New deals struck this summer may now be signed on July 7 at 12:01 a.m., according to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because neither side announced the move publicly.

Teams were informed of the decision on Thursday. Yahoo! Sports also reported the news.

Until now, this summer's moratorium was scheduled to run through July 11, with players and teams able to execute new deals on July 12. The moratorium -- which exists in large part to allow the league time to calculate the exact amount of the salary cap and luxury-tax figure for the coming season -- will run from July 1-6.

DeRozan and Larry Sanders and we build Olshey a statue.

But for real, I think plan A is DeRozan and Plan B is Greg Monroe. Olshey and stotts obviously see something in Monroe and it just feels like a matter of time lol. DeRozan is less realistic but if he's open to leaving Toronto, Portland should be near the top of his list.

Surprised we haven't talked much about this considering the significance. We have two restricted free agents that will get interest from other teams this summer. Could impact Neil's plan somewhat
Agreed, I thought when I posted that link that the moratorium was being reduced that it would gather a lot of discussion. I think it is a good thing personally.

If we could just get the same production out of our centers as we did last night........
26 points, 17 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists, 2 blocks.....:breakdance:

Anyone seeing the Lebron toying with the media stuff going on about wanting to team up with other guys and unfollowing the Cavs on Twitter? It's a shame he'd never give us a look, Lillard and CJ would have to be a better option than broken down Wade or Melo.

There is a new thread about it.

Would you want LeBron? I wouldn't.

Lets say he comes here and wins a title; do you think Dame, any players on our roster, our franchise, our fans get credit for it?

I'd rather fail trying to do something hard than succeed at something easy.

LeBron on the court is very unselfish, Dame would get a ton more love and exposure with LeBron on the team.

I want a title, so if LeBron was like "hey I'm taking my talents to the real 'land" I'd be a giddy school girl.

I wouldnt mind LBJ by himself, but not with his fantasy squad following him.

They bring up the idea of Dwight to POR in the summer. Still intrigued tbh. That HOU system and locker room is not conducive to success. I'd love to see what he could do with Dame and Neil/Terry for something less than max.

I have zero interest in Dwight.

He's declining athletically. He's had maturity issues for 3 franchises. Aging declining superstars are the hardest to deal with for a coach, GM, and fellow players. They don't understand or accept their new limitations. Center is our deepest position with Plumlee/Davis. We have massive holes at other positions on the roster. Just doesn't make an iota of sense.

You think Kevin Durant is getable?

I don't even know with KD anymore. I was sold he would go home to play for the Wizards, where he could potentially have more success in the East. They would hypothetically be an ECF lock vs the Cavs every season. However the Wizards seem to have regressed, and I'm not sold he'll go there. There were talks about the Warriors which don't make sense to me. I bet they would rather keep what they have then try to change their identity, why try fix whats not broken? That's a greedy move, and greed does not often do you well.

I'd say the Thunder are probably front runners, I don't know what his relationship with Harden is like, so I can't speak towards Houston. But you've got to think they are either very much in the mix, or not at all.

I think Portland would fall behind many teams in his priority list. I'm not sure what affect a first round matchup would/could have on his decision. If we somehow beat the Thunder in a series do we move high on his list? Does he actually harbor resentment that we did not take him #1?

There's a lot of questions regarding Durant's FA, even more regarding him coming to the Rose City.

Jeremy Lin is climbing my list. The way he is playing I think he could be out of our price range. He's right there with Barton for 6th man of the year.

Some potential bargains:

D.J. Augustin
Jonathan Simmons
Jared Dudley
Ian Mahinmi
Marvin Williams

Don't we always go looking for bargains? Just once I'd like to make a splash.
