Suppose Dame asked for a trade

I think that proposed Simmons trade is working with this season's numbers, and the deadline is passed of course. Dame's supermax kicks in next season, so deals will be near impossible to make. That's a good thing IMHO.

I hate to break it to you, but:

  • When the trade deadline has passed. Teams are free to make trades again once their season has ended4, but cannot trade players whose contracts are ending or could end due to an option or ETO.

The most important topic concerning the Blazers for me is keeping the team in Portland....everything else I can adjust to but I don't want this team moving out of state

This was the danger the last time the Blazers "sucked" due to a complete rebuild. Which I am firmly a believer that the front office will do everything to avoid even though it might be the right thing to do.

How many titles have we won with Dame?

This isn't Bron leaving Cleveland. Its not like we were perennial final teams. I don't understand this Dame love affair; if he is as good as he thinks he is, and fans act like he is, guy would not be getting sweeped by the Pelicans as a 3rd seed or losing to a injured Denver team, both in round one in both instances.

You guys need to open your eyes about Dame. He aint that dude. I get it, the logo shots are fun to watch. T-mac was also very fun to watch. So was Marbury, Melo and Westbrook is fun to watch.

The dude has a point. Portland is never going to win with Dame unless he gets MAJOR help (aka Prime Warriors-esque squad).

Look back at the past 30 years of NBA Finals. I don't see a single PG-led team. The Warriors are an outlier due to the ridiculousness of the rest of their roster.

Detroit in 1990 was the last, but that roster complemented IT well.

Dame is an absolutely amazing player - the fact is, he's just too small to carry an NBA team by himself. End of story.

The Blazers need some serious size/defense if Dame is to stay.

(EDIT)
I missed Iverson's team in 2001. One year out of 30.

If Dame demanded a trade then we would be smart to trade him. I think it's incredibly unlikely that it will ever happen but if he doesn't want to be here then he can go. He's got a ton of trade value. We could hit reset and do a total rebuild or we could trade him for another superstar or younger potential superstar.

Again, I don't think this ever happens... the guy has said he wants to do what Dirk did in Dallas and has never backed away from that. It didn't sound like he was backing away from that last night. He said, "We have to go back to the drawing board." Not they have to but we have to. So yeah, I'd trade him if he demanded it but he's not going to.

Cade Cunningham is one of the only players I’d try to get for Dame.
Actually being in the NBA tarnishes players for you, doesn't it Fez? It's like the bloom coming off the rose - they're no longer pure potential.

Let them call us because it gives us a great opportunity to start talks with these teams for CJ and anyone else we can use to build the right team around Dame. If these guys want to pay a kings ransom for Dame, maybe they want to give us a fraction of that for CJ.

right now, what I'm hoping is there's nobody to call in the GM's office

Well it's that or you don't know that Iverson wasn't the PG.

Theory behind my post was...guys who dominate the ball and are small - 6'4 and under.

PG, SG, Combo guard, what does it matter?

Lillard is too small to do it all on his own with any real consistency in outcome.

So you discount the obvious counterexample to this which is Steph Curry by saying "he had an amazing supporting cast". Well... people didn't think so before Steve Kerr arrived.

You're over-complicating things. The Blazers don't have a good enough team to compete. No grand theory needed.

Lol yes absolutely. Dame needs an amazing balanced supporting cast just the same.

The Warriors drafted Klay in 2011, Draymond in 2012, and got rid redundancy in Monta Ellis.

The Blazers need to get rid of redundancy just the same, and re-balance the team better. Right now their 3 best players are all basically THE SAME PLAYER, at differing skill levels.
Dame God-tier, CJ Tier 2, Norm Tier 3.

To me, it's obvious why they can't win.

No 1 player carries a whole team to championships, or really even finals. Unless they are in a very weak conference. It just doesn't happen.

Miami could be interesting…

A Bam Adebayo package is far more appealing than RJ Barrett and a bunch of mediocre future picks.

I'm almost certain he would never do that (which is something I don't think I'd say for any other player - even Tim Duncan considered leaving the Spurs), but say he did. He promises not to go public with it and give the front office significant leeway, but would rather go to a contender. Post the trade you would be least un-okay with.
That's a never will happen scenario.
