Like with most walks of life there are those who claim to be something but don't even try to pursue it, or adhere to the beliefs they say the prescribe too. The ugly truth is that many people do use, “Im a christian”, as a crutch, and use the values they say they adhere to as a way to judge others, or to look down on them.

Its what makes religion for religions sake bad.

Even as a Christian, I completely understand the animosity towards religion, and Christians in particular. The church and its people have used their “status” for their gain for years now. One of the worst things thats happened in the history of this planet was Christianity becoming part of the Roman empire.
