Dame for Porzingis!

Fight me.

I'd do that, but unless Jackson hates Porzingas personally, I don't see New York doing it.

Someone with the potential for Dirk Nowitzki's game on offense and Tyson Chandler's game on defense is one of the most valuable young players in the game.

Engelmann: Terry Stotts rates as the third-worst active coach by my coach metric, so replacing him should be the highest priority. His impact on player development and performance, especially on the defensive end, simply leaves too much to be desired. Scott Skiles would be my dream candidate.
Wow. This guy should be pretty popular with some of the posters here. I think we even have a thread or two about this. ;)

I see Durant says we need a wing with some length who can handle the ball. And obviously who can shoot. Who the hell like that is available?

I keep looking at Aminu, Harkless and Turner; three guys being asked to shoot threes and isn't it becoming obvious that none of the three is ever going to be a consistent three point shooter? Because of that we basically play 2 against 5 on offense.
Either at least two of them need to go (and it would be Turner and Harkless for me) or we need to play a different system.
And if we can't get rid of two of them; then we should change the system (might mean a new coach). Nurkic seems to know how to make Harkless and Aminu (and Vonleh) look good without making them shoot threes. In a new system Lillard and McCollum might have to drive less and take more three themselves.

Harkless is not garbage. He's got some game.

Yeah I think Skiles would be a disaster with this team. Go directly from a players coach to Skiles? With our two best players our worst defenders? I'm sure that would go over great.

Skiles would be only a slighter better hire than Jackson, so only the second worst guy they could hire.

I wouldn't be steadfast in refusing to deal one of Dame or CJ.

For all the greatness on the offensive side of the ball, the defense is just horrible. I might actually prefer to deal Dame over CJ. I think CJ would be perfectly fine defensively guarding PGs, and he's proven to be an assassin type of player at PG when he plays there. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to keep them both, as well, so I'm not exactly saying a deal is a must do.

I think Dame or CJ might net us a PG as the two main elements of a deal.

I know it's not a popular position to take, but I'd be fine running at SG with Crabbe or ET.

Stotts is a really good coach, and really underrated.

He has made the most of most of the players on the roster. His offenses have featured our two best scorers and have taken Plums' skills into the scheme. Adding Nurk, his offense adjusted to allow him to flourish. We overachieved two seasons ago by playing defense. The defense was among the worst in the NBA last season though, and that is a coaching issue.

The question would be who we'd replace him with that's better. There may not be an ideal candidate.

Can we send Meyers to bootcamp?

This is amazing to me that you wouldn't watch a Blazer game. Ignore the fact I HAVE to watch every game. I don't think from the time I could walk and talk until I started working the games did I ever miss a game. Regardless of who was playing or how they were playing.

The only parts of Blazer games I ever miss is when someone in the Blazer truck is showing a highlight while an incredible real-time play is going on. :D

I think it would be easier to change the coach and system (to not rely on the 3 quite as much) at this point then it would be to get rid of all the players that we want to.

I don't see it happening this year though...

That's interesting. I sometimes do feel it's kind of like the Ducks football situation was last year. Needs some new blood, not necessarily replace Stotts but a new strong assistant coach with some new input. Add an outsider's view.

I think if Melo wanted to waive his no trade to come here and we can dump some combo Meyers/AC/Turner and a pick (20 or 26), I might get on the Melo to PDX train. We are cash strapped as is. Why not let Melo try to rebrand his image here?

A Dame/CJ/Melo/Aminu/Nurk lineup actually looks decent to me and I think we could win 50-55 games easily with that crew. Someone talk me off this ledge.

In reference to #3: Why can't we attach the hard to move contracts 1st?

If SAC is willing to give something for Harkless, why can't we trade them Turner as well, as their price to pay for Harkless?

They need young talent, and won't have their 2019 1st. They have tons of cap space, but no one will want to go there, so money doesn't matter. Turner won't hurt them in the long run, so why not accept that? They might even be willing to take Meyers/Davis as well
I'd trade Harkless and Leonard for Gay and Tolliver, their contracts are half as long. Interesting that Gay's ORPM is slightly negative but his DRPM is almost 2. Tolliver shot .391 at threes.

I'm only lukewarm to getting Melo. He's barely a net positive on the court, and that requires him to shoot a lot. A lot more than we'd probably like...

He's not really led his teams to lots of victories.

I'm just thinking back to his time with the national team. Just needs to catch and shoot and he's skilled enough to drop 20 in his sleep. And create when needed when one of Dame/CJ are on the bench. Can you imagine him getting the WIDE OPEN looks that Moe and Aminu got these past four games? No way our guards get covered like they did if Melo is the release guy.

I agree, he is the only one of our role players who has some game and a good contract. I guess I am really bummed about his playoff performance. Lacks focus a lot on defense and even knowing when to dive to the basket on offense. Is it coaching or him?

I imagine him shooting every time he touches the ball :)

His USG% is as high as Dame's or CJ's.

If he gets more space--ergo, better shots--being on the floor with Dame, CJ, and Nurkic, I would have no problem with him shooting 20 times/game.

Yup. Just run those same pick and pops that we ran for Aldridge like he gets on team USA. That NY environment is toxic, from the fans to the media to Phil-- he needs to gtfo.

Turner + 20 + Fes for Melo.

Do they do this?

That would be so ideal, but Melo won't approve.

I think they can do this for Crabbe+Harkless. If they trade I think they want to go young. Turner not an ideal fit for them.

Trade Lillard for Paul George, Aminu and 2 1st rd picks for Shaun Livingston. Crabbe for James Johnson & filler.

Next years starting lineup:

Livingston
McCollum
George
Johnson
Nurkic

pipe dream.

OK, I went through all the SF's and the only ones remotely available would be Gallinari and Joe Ingles. Couldn't Utah use a shooter at SG like Crabbe? They don't have a lot of garbage contracts to unload however so not sure how to entice them?

It's outside the box thinking at least.

Paul George is not a good idea. He is dead-set on getting to the Lakers.

The Sporting News is reporting that Paul George has told former teammates that his long-term intention is to play for the Lakers.

George was born and raised in southern California and rumors continue to surface that he wants to return there and play for the Lakers. The Pacers will have to make a difficult decision this summer: If George is unwilling to sign a long-term extension with Indiana, do they trade him for a package of coveted assets, or play out next season and take the chance he leaves via free agency in July for 2018?

If the Bulls blow the 2-0 lead then Butler should be the focus imo.
