Swiss Bank Accounts? Why would that be a big deal to people?

Romney released his 2010 tax return in January of this year, a document that first informed voters about the existence of his Swiss bank account and financial activities in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. But people who own foreign bank accounts are required to file a separate document with the IRS that provides additional details on such overseas bank holdings, and Romney has not released that form to the public.

For individuals seeking to game the U.S. tax code, Swiss bank accounts are only useful when used illegally. Swiss accounts are prized by global elites for their extreme levels of secrecy. That secrecy has allowed thousands of American taxpayers to stash income from offshore companies in a Swiss account, shielding it from the IRS.

Yep, a man of the people alright!

Bullshit. There are several uses for Swiss bank accounts. I have one, because I used to work in Europe. It's not a big deal to have one. And there's nothing wrong with choosing not to patriate income earned abroad. By the way, if you want a REALLY confidential bank account, Europe is worthless, bue Lichtenstein is better than Switzerland and the Channel Islands used to be best of all.

Oh, and when did Mitt Romney claim himself to be a "man of the people"? Do you believe President Obama to be that person? If you do, you're going to be disappointed.

At least Obama has been poor before.

Wow.

I suppose for business reasons. They are considered the most secure banks. A businessman (or entertainer...) with the type of wealth as he probably should have bank accounts all over the place for handling various transactions. I suppose it could be assumed this is a tax dodge.

Why does that matter? Is there something inherently noble about being poor?

No, but there's something inherently noble about knowing what it's like to worry about money and survival in the real world. Something Mr. Romney can't say.

Mitt Romney's the only one who has shown that he understands what it's like to live within a budget. President Obama runs a deficit of over $1,000,000,000,000 a year.

When? His grandmother was the VP of a bank in Honolulu, and his mom traveled the globe and ended up at UW at age 19.

That's the same grandma that Barack said was a racist, in so many words.

Your worldview is just odd to me, Chris. Are you married with kids?

Some third world countries could live on Mitt Romney's personal budget.

You know, if you have nothing intelligent to add to a discussion, you should just not post.

What exactly is Mitt Romney's "personal budget"? It's money he earned. He's not living off of the largesse of the taxpayer.

I find the irony of your second sentence delicious.

Barack Obama has gone from a community organizer to a multi-millionaire without holding a private sector job.

Is it only OK if 1%ers get rich while "serving the people"?

He worked as a civil rights attorney in Chicago. I guess that doesn't qualify, huh?

I was talking about when he made his millions. He went into "public service" to become a 1%er.

His charitable donations are a joke compared to Romney's, by the way.

Obama is a slick fraud. In other words, he's a typical politician, just like Romney. I'll take Romney because at least he says what he believes in, and doesn't try to spin things like Obama and his latest gaffe on business owners.

BTW - the Romney/felon shit went nowhere, and your race card has expired. What's next from you and the rest of the Obama sycophants?

Knowing your disdain for giving ANY money to the government, I'll take your reassurances with a cup of salt.

Seems to me he declared he had a swiss bank account on his 2010 tax return. Seriously, where's the beef? It's not like he's hiding anything from anyone.

I'd also point out that Obama has spent $100M (no joke, really $100M) on attacking Romney over Bain Capital. It hasn't been very effective, according to the pollsters' analysis. However, it's kept the discussion on anything but Obama's record, which is good for Obama.

Aw, pumpkin, why so upset that I don't want to fund a lavish lifestyle for you and your bureaucratic buddies? Please point to a post where I said I didn't want ANY of my money to go to the government. Go ahead. Find it. After you fail, apologize. Just because you have a schtick on this board where you say whatever you can to get attention, doesn't mean you get to lie about the positions of others.

How childish of you to nitpik over the difference between nothing and miniscule. The combined message you bring with all your posts is you believe in minimalistic funding of a skeleton government, along the lines of what it was 230 years ago, despite the obvious differences between the two worlds.

You take a Darwinian approach to the problems of the less gifted, the less fortunate, the ill, disabled, abused or exploited. You're against laws and regulations (and certainly the enforcement of such) that protect American citizens from death and dismemberment. Maybe it's your schtick, but to me you appear to have no heart, no soul, no compassion for your fellow man. You might express sympathy for others, but not if it costs you anything.

As for "my bureaucratic buddies", I have none. Nor am I myself a bureaucrat. You, your buddies, and most definitely Mitt Romney fit that bill much better. A bureaucrat is a member of a bureaucracy and can comprise the administration of any organization of any size. It does not refer strictly to government, but to the private sector and the non-profit/religious sector equally as well.

Being self-employed, it does not refer to me at all by any stretch of the imagination.

You write interesting fiction. You obviously have no idea about my views of a correctly-sized government, so you should really stop guessing. You're exceptionally bad at it.

As for your background, I know you're now a struggling Realtor, but you used to be a government employee. Once a bureaucrat, always a bureaucrat. It's a mindset.

its ok, he had his money in a blind trust, so he didnt know anything about it right?

Jesus Fucking Christ, if the Irony Meter still existed after all of the blowhard bullshit spewed in this thread by you, it just got blown into Subatomic Quarks by that statement.

Say what you will, unless you are going to back-edit your 17,000+ posts, anyone who doesn't remember ad nauseam them can easily verify my summation of them.

Yes I have worked in federal agencies, mostly as a photographer. And I have worked twice as much in private sector companies from tiny mom and pops to multinational mega-corps. And I have been a business owner with employees and am now self-employed and doing quite well thank you.

Meanwhile you are, and always will be, a bureaucrat slaving for a bureaucracy. So you'd do well to find a more appropriate insult to fling, 'cause that one will always boomerang on you. :tsktsk:

Hi, honey. What's go you so blue?

Your fictional character cracks me up. In all my now over 18,000 posts you can't point to a single one where I posted I wanted no government. Do I want a smaller government that does fewer things better? You bet. Do I want anarchy? Absolutely not. I won't waste my time answering your post in depth, point-by-point because your conclusions are so silly. I will just say that your post reveals a massive ignorance as to how I've spent my working life. Vaya con Dios.

I hate to say it Maris, but Maxi is right. Your posts have been both out and out lies (and you know it), but also incendiary. I think you should draw back for a while and get yourself put back together.

LOL

I think those who rag on swiss bank accounts wish they should have one.
