Tank for Wembanyama

I don’t think I’d trade #2 in a package for KAT. KAT’s contract is just atrocious and he’s missed 30+ games three times in the last four seasons.
Lots of plays contracts are atrocious in the NBA. The Blazers are going to have to go there at some point. That is if they are serious about contending. Jeremi Grant contract will probably be atrocious in the near future.

KAT will be making $60m/yr in the near future and can’t seem to be healthy. I’m not really interested in arguing about this lol. I’ll just say, if you think Jerami (who has been available to play for the most part) and his $30ish m/yr contract is on par with or not worse than KAT (who has been injury prone) and his contract, then I don’t know what to tell ya, we’ll just agree to disagree.

anyone else scared the bball gods will spite us for being this shameless?
Not superstitious at all. The fact is that the most likely spot for us to end up is 6, the second most likely is 7. If we end up in either of those spots that's not being spited for anything it's just the way the cookie will crumble. If we get pushed back from 5 to 9 then you can start to wonder about being cursed.

im not talking about just the results of the lottery.

have you looked at our injury history?

I believe you have that backwards, as the position with the highest chance of the Blazers getting is #7.

100% with you on this. I do not believe the Blazers franchise or my fandom is important enough to have any impact on the outcomes. Not to mention, there is a pretty clear process on how these the draft order is selected.

Yep—the move, if you're a Blazers fan, is to fall in love with the guys in the 7-9 range or later. Anything higher is gravy.

It seems like it would have to be Nurk + Little (or Sharpe) + lottery pick for KAT just to match up salaries, right? Or put in Ant for the second piece with MN throwing something back.

How would you feel about those options?
I had forgotten just how huge his contract was. I'd still consider making one of those deals if Dame was on board.

I don't think Dame being on board would matter

my thought is that the Vulcans would never be on board with that contract, especially after watching KAT shit the bed, again, against a tanking Blazer squad 5 days ago

Last night felt like a playoff game except I was rooting for them to loose, how sad is that I hope I don’t have to have another year like the last two hoping to lose.

I was so frustrated last night you can’t half ass tank in these last couple of games. As coach you have to find a way to make sure your key guys sit a little longer and if the other team is making a run you leave them out for a little longer than normal. It SUCKS but we just sat all of our key players (especially Sharpe who could use these minutes) to get to this point don’t blow it now.

Yeah I have to admit I was getting anxious when we were up 9 with six minutes left. It was a weird feeling to be pissed about it. I don't ever remember rooting so hard for them to lose. But I certainly did not fault Chauncey. Look at who he had in the game for the 4th quarter. He only had a 4 man bench to tinker with......and they played the whole quarter.

At least we’re not Dallas. They know their team is shit too. They have a legitimate shot at the play-in. They need to beat the Bulls tonight and Spurs on Sunday and need the Thunder to lose to the Grizzlies on Sunday. But they are like, nah we’re good.

What did they expect trading for Kyrie. Make bad choices, get bad results.

Dallas owes their pick to New York top 10 protected. Right now the Bulls and Mavericks are tied 38-42. Chicago would pick 10th and Dallas would pick 11th.

Who is Dallas playing tonight? The Bulls.

Must watch game.

The Bulls and Mavs are tied right now, so why are you saying that the Bulls would pick ahead of the Mavs pick? There aren't tie breakers for draft picks until the post season and then they are determined by coin flips.

also, the 10th pick has a 4.5% chance of being #1 in the lottery and a 17.6% chance of being top-4. That probably looks a lot better to Cuban right now than being the 10th seed in the play-in

There's still a chance Dallas could owe the pick even if they tank this game though. That would require the Bulls to make the playoffs through the play in.

only if both finish with the same record. If Dallas loses their next 2 games they are 10th seed in lottery

Maybe I am having a hard time figuring this out but if the Bulls lose their next two and Dallas loses their next two, and then the Bulls lose in the play ins... won't they split the 10th/11th odds and have a coin flip decide who gets the higher of the two picks if neither jumps into the top 4?

I remember a few talking heads claiming the Mav were the favorites in the West after the trade.
This was before the Durant trade, but still, it was crazy talk.
