Tank for Wembanyama

I’ll take getting swept every season in the playoffs than NOT making it. That’s an easy decision.

yeah...I know because you've said it 387 times

I prefer a series of lottery picks to a series of 1st round exits and sweeps. I've seen what the exits do for the team....just an excuse to reboot the failure

am i wrong? if we are hellbent on keeping dame, then getting wemby is the only avenue to compete for a title in 2-3 yrs.
You're only wrong because none of us know what we don't know. We don't know what players will be available and we don't know what this team looks like with a legitimate second option with Dame along with high level defense role players.

I think us landing the first pick and taking Wemby along with trading away Ant, Nurk and a bunch of picks for a second proven all star is the easiest way to find our team a path to contention but it isn't the only way we can with Dame leading the team.

I think there's another option that makes them a title contender. I think Wemby makes Joe's job easier. But if the Blazers get pick 2 to 4, i could see them have the potential to send that pick ,with Ant, to the Nets for Mikal Bridges. Plus they could use future draft capital to strengthen other positions. A starting lineup of Nurk, Grant, Bridges, Sharpe, and Dame is pretty damn good. If you could acquire Seth Curry, or Joe Harris to be that dead eye shooter off the bench, now we're talking. The Blazers still might be able to upgrade the center position with a Nurk, plus a 1st. move. But there aren't a lot of game changing starters at center. Would Nurk, plus a 1st net you a Myles Turner. Who knows. We will find out. No matter who the Blazers get, staying healthy is the biggest key.

I do too. While I prefer that HCP is employed (and not for the obvious "mrs HCP is free" jokes that it offers us), I don't think making the playoffs only to lose in the 1st round the majority of the time, is really the win it gets presented as.

Now, if you have a competent GM/Front office, you can afford to make the playoffs and improve, but I think from our experience we did not have a front office that was competent and set out on improving.

The jury is out on this current FO, and this is the summer where they need to do something big (doesn't have to be a home run, but they can't be given a pass if they luck into the #1 pick) or it's gonna be a train wreck few years.

But I'd rather do that instead of just going back with the same flawed roster choices and tank out in the playoffs in 5 games.

Unless Bridges moves Heaven and earth to force his way to Portland, why would BKN take Simons and 2 for Bridges?
Because Mikal Bridges is a fantastic role player, but the Nets want stars. Scoot gives them the flash they're looking for. It NYC.

Hard pass.
There are also teams that tank every year and get no where for years. The Kings , for instance. They finally his paydirt with Fox, and Haliburton, and were able to trade one to get Sabonis. But it was 16 freakin' years.

You don't really think that team contends for a title, do you?

It's just this year's team without one of our best scorers but with Bridges.

That team may contend for HCA, but it's not a top-10 NBA team in my opinion, and giving up future draft picks, too... that's just silly and the kind of thinking that has had us mired in low-mediocrity for years.

Brooklyn held firm and did not trade KD without Bridges included. They wanted him! they are not looking to flip him. They see him being THEIR STAR. And, he is on a fabulous contract. Great defensive player that now they know can get buckets. Bridges is the star. Cam Johnson is a worthy Nets player to pursue, but not at the expense of taking on Simmons. The NBA needs to look into mental health exemptions because Simmons and Zion are struggling and are becoming boat anchors. Gobert may qualify as a head case too as he can't get along with anyone it seems.

For a long time now there have been players who were just naturally really gifted at basketball, but they didn't love the game. Someone else referenced Derrick Coleman. I know for a fact that Darius Miles pretty much only played ball because of his mom. They have a ton of potential and natural talent, and they get to collect free money, so why would they change? Zion and Simmons are getting PAID to do basically nothing.

I’m not sure? Just a bold statement. IF you can find a taker for Wendy that gives you a difference maker, then maybe not?

Simmons has been all defense several years. I’m not sure you achieve that unless there is some passion

So you post some pic and not expect me to reply?

At what point do you wish we would just simply make the playoffs again regardless of outcome? 5 years, 10?

When the team shows growth on the court, and isn't making the same mistakes years into a coaches tenure. When they actually play defense. When they show improvement.

I’ll take making the playoffs

SO you’re telling me the tools on here wouldn’t be ecstatic if we make a couple moves this summer and land the 8th spot next year? The ones claiming they rather NOT make the playoffs? Just squeezed in somehow.

I’ll take making the playoffs

For only 5 more games, I'll take a competent GM and coach and a team not being run by a horrible GM who handed out bloated contracts to bad player, etc.

Who here honestly, and I mean not a character on a message board (the anti-Maris if you will), looks back at the playoffs against the Lakers and thinks "great season!"

Or thinks how they *didn't* improve the team after the WCFS against GState, and thinks "thank God they made the playoffs that year!"

Or thinks oh man, I wish they had made the playoffs last year instead of getting Shaedon?

Because I'm willing to bet most is the people don't glorify those years, and would rather the team have built a better roster instead of settling for a playoff spot as a poorly coached, made up and designed team.

You seem to think that people are only wanting to miss the playoffs. That's not the situation. They'd rather the team make consistent runs deep in the playoffs, and sometimes that takes drastic changes.

Depends on the moves.

If keeping CJ (etc) and making the playoffs only to lose in the 1st round over and over, well...no thanks.

Have higher standards.

WHo wouldn’t want a consistent deep run in the playoffs. That doesn’t happen for many teams as you know. If that’s the only thing that makes it a successful season…. I don’t know how you can ever enjoy this team.

It's also trying for one. The team realistically hasn't tried for one in a long time.

So if trying for one is losing in the first round or barely making the playoffs after reaching the conference finals is a success...
