Wemby should be ready to win right away.
Man I’m still not sold. We are just seeing his highlights and not full games. I just feel his going to get BANGED by bigger stronger guys for a few years.

Heres a full game of him going up against Chet 1 on 1 in the u19 final

I've watched 3 full games of his. He is skinny, but that's about the only major knock I can really point to.

Like KD, he is smooth, can shoot, and will have a lot of inches on his opponent, so I think the need to be physical becomes less important. And like Wemby, the lack of strength was the major concern about KD coming into the league.

To me, he is certainly more advanced than KD was his rookie year and Durant was an impactful player.

I was looking forward to watching Chet in OKC this past season to see how he handled the physicality of the league. I know all players are different, but they seem to have some of the same skill set.

Chet worries me A LOT more than Wemby; I would not have wanted Portland to draft him in the top 5 last year. I think Wemby is better at nearly every skill set and measurable than Chet.

Time will tell on both.

It's not just that he is better, it's also that Wemby just moves in a way that looks far more sustainable than the way Chet moves. Wemby is smooth. No one has said that Chet is the best prospect since LeBron, many NBA scouts are saying that about Wemby and it's because his game is fucking bewilderingly great.

Just went through the past four lotteries after the odds have been flattened.

History of the 5 spot:

2019-- ORL, 5th to 6th.
2020-- DET, 5th to 7th.
2021-- CLE, 5th to 3rd.
2022-- IND, 5th to 6th.

Which is why I think he can start out as a PF.....at least until crunch time of every game.
Besides, there are only like 2 big centers in the whole league who have post moves. I don't think his strength will be much of an issue. Maybe would impact his rebounding but he seems to have good instincts and a nose for the ball.

And, they likely would have had they had the chance.

So you're saying there's a chance!

It's a little better than 1 in 10 that we get the 1st pick and a little better than 2 in 5 that we move up into the top 4. So yeah, a chance. Unfortunately there is just under a 3 in 5 chance that we pick outside of the top 5.

I watched half of a game, so this is preliminary; he reminds me of if LaMarcus Aldridge was also Nic Batum but then they put him through a pasta roller. I like his touch; he's got very very soft hands and a great first step, but he pops on every pick, drifting out top, leaving himself nowhere near the hoop to rebound. Also he reaches in constantly when defending one-on-one and got at least two rip-through fouls in that half of a game.

As long as we keep a true center willing to go low, then yeah I'm down. Like, if we have both Zach and LaMarcus, let one be tough and the other be soft. This kid will not toughen up. As long as the team is okay with that, then I support it. He's got immense skill.

Half a game and you're willing to say what he will and will not be able to do. That's a real talent. If you watch more games he is dominant in the pain, dominant. He can get around or over anyone offensively and defensively it doesn't matter how close someone who posts him up can get to the hoop, they still can't get their shot off against him. So you're right that he does well on the perimeter but he rebounds and protects the rim better than anyone I've seen in years because of his lenght, athleticism and timing.

I'm just saying what I saw.

Maybe he was having a bad game. It looked like (I can't speak French) he had to sit early in the first with two fouls and got his third before halftime. I definitely will not complain if we get him. Lord knows he has oodles of skill and talent. I just worry he's too clever for his own good at the moment.

I suggest you watch more. Check him out vs Chet in the U19 finals. His most complete game and he was just 17 at the time. And he's improved loads from then.

His ability and willingness to close ground coming out of the paint on shooters was the thing that impressed me the most, among myriad other things.

Once he figures out the nuances of NBA physicality (which frankly isn't that different from his French league) and stays out of foul trouble, he's a perennial DPOY candidate.

This is what makes him so dangerous. He is like Evan Mobely on defense with KD-esque offense.

Do we really want the PNW to be overran by baguettes, croissants, and escargot?
