As I said, I was around a pretty large Filipino community when I lived in San Diego and they had no problem with the term. So I think you're either trying to yank me, or else different groups of Filipinos feel differently about it.

This seems to back up my experience and strengthen my belief that you're trying to bully me and make me feel bad, but there is that second-to-last comment on the thread which adds a little doubt that you might be sincere.

So, I will never refer to you by...that term. We cool?

I'm just letting you know, historically it's an offensive term for Filipinos and you may get into trouble using it, or at a minimum, you will offend some older Filipinos as it was a pejorative used by the US army on the bases (think the word "nip" and Japanese people), especially coming from a non-filipno.

While many of the 2nd generation Filipinos have used that word, not unlike the N-word and blacks as a colloquial slang, use by non Filipinos is not recommended.
 
If you are Filipino, it's fine. Non-Filipinos can't call Filipinos "flips".

Honestly, in the wrong crowd you may be jumped.

That's fair. It does seem to vary by Filipino community (as in, some communities are cool with anyone using it to refer to Filipinos), but it's good to know that it does offend some. You at least made me research it a bit.

My wife is the most conservative person you'll ever meet but she hates Trump with a passion. It makes her sick to see Trump's face on TV, it makes her sick to hear Trump's voice. She wishes someone would shoot Trump dead as do I.
We plan to open a bottle of very expensive champagne as soon as we hear of Trump's death. He truly is a menace to society.

I've known an awful lot of Asians in my adult life but I've never heard the deragotory term for a Filipino before. In fact the only derogatory terms for Asians I've ever heard were for Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese. I heard the Vietnamese one for the first time was in Vietnam and that was by some real stupid and mean GIs. I probably said some derogatory words when I was a young boy growing up in Oswego, but it never really set well with me and by the time I was 12 it started to disappear from my vocabulary, disappearing completely by the time I reached high school. Dirty jokes about minorities, mostly Blacks took somewhat longer to disappear. I'd say that by the time I got out of the Army, which was when I was 21, the dirty jokes seemed really wrong to me and I quit them so that they no longer ever came out automatically like they did when I was younger.
When I hear someone denigrate anyone by expression or dirty joke they now get an immediate scolding from me.
Fortunately, every occasion I know, even in my dialysis unit, thinks very highly of my wife. When I was delirious in intensive care five years ago, my wife would come to visit me for 12 hours every day for ten days without being allowed into my room and she would cry and sob constantly such that my doctor was very touched by it and felt the need to console her. People see her as honest as the day is long. The cutest nurses in my dialysis unit constantly tell me how pretty and cute she looks even though she's in her 70s.
My wife is so easy to love and yet it baffles me what she sees in me. Oh my God, I've digressed again. One of my many many faults and yet she puts up with me. See what I mean.
 
They arrested the thug that attacked the asian woman.



He had killed his own mother but was on "lifetime parole" after serving 17 years in prison. He was homeless and lived in a hotel that the city provided, apparently.

You can't help these fucking people out. They are scum, leave them locked up and throw the key away. Hopefully they do that now, but seeing who's running NYC, I doubt it.

You kill your own mom, you should never get out. Hell, that should be instant death penalty. Though to do that he's got to be mentally ill. How does some one kill their own mother. Not to mention what he did yesterday.

It's true, the vermin is getting worse. Venice and Santa Monica and much of LA is pretty bad and I've stopped going there as much.

We hang in the South Bay, OC and San Diego more these days.

I heard that often in the Army and the most often in Vietnam. I never associated with dumb fucks like that. Since I was about 12 years old I've never allowed shit like that in my presence without giving both barrels to the perp.
