The weirdest part about Jalen Smith is we'd have a better chance of signing him if we didn't trade for him.
Do you like Jalen Smith? Would love to hear ya’ll thoughts on him on tomorrow’s livestream. But I don’t think I ever see myself calling in to ask about him myself lol.

I honestly think we should gamble on what he can be and offer him a 3 year deal in FA. Don’t think he’ll be expensive, and he doesn’t have to be your starting C right away. Reserving my right to change my opinion on him though, I’ll admit I haven’t watched that much of his game.

If we go the "young" route around Dame, I think he'd be a nice addition in free agency. Can rebound, play defense, will probably be a decent shooter eventually. I wouldn't trade for him because of the limitations to re-signing him though.

i feel dirty for doing this and will be the only time i put Dame in a deal idea. I would ask for Tatum instead of Brown, but this could suffice.

I get that trading Dame would make you feel like you took a nap in raw sewage, but if that is what came back, that's not bad at all.

My trade that won't happen, though Fischer describes Portland and Indy as "natural trade partners". Maybe draft picks traded, maybe Craig instead of LaVert.

Covington’s shooting has now stabilized back to his career averages. Same with his defensive splits. A guy like him would be valuable to any playoff team. And even if we “tank” this season, we’re gonna be looking to win next year. So I’m definitely NOT trading him for tax purposes unless we’re getting other assets in return. The priority should be to re-sign him. I don’t think his next contract is gonna differ much from his current one from an AAV point of view. So unless his agent tells the blazers he’s not re-signing, we should probably keep him. And his agent telling the team that can offer him the most money they’re not interested would be pretty foolish.

Btw Fischer suggested today that the blazers “still have designs to reach the postseason.” So unless Dame gets shut down for the season, I don’t think we’ll be dumping players we don’t already have replacements for. Debatable whether that’s the case with Roco. I view Nas as more of a 3 than a 4 and also more likely to guard guards than centers. Nance is our only other PF/C unless you wanna count Watford, but neither spaces the court like Roco does.

I feel like I’ve said this a million times, but the main objective should be to trade Norm and/or CJ. But even those moves can wait until the offseason, although that would impact the developmental minutes of Ant and Nas this season.

Lol Morey is obsessed with “winning” trades. Feels like him not wanting CJ is purely because we said no to Dame. If CJ played for any other team this would be done already. He’s the perfect fit for what they need and no one is offering anyone better at his position.

If Fischer is right and we try to sneak into the playoffs and are successful -blow the entire team up in the offseason.

i feel like some of you guys are not following my train of thought, or are just being shortsighted. Trading Powell in my suggestion above nets us: 1) a pick, 2) gets us well below the tax to potentially have access to the full MLE, 3) gives us a TPE to make another trade in the summer for a player making ~18 mil, 4) r gives us flexibility to give Ant a similar deal without further tax implications.

We can do a similar deal with RoCo to NY (or CHI/etc) to get another pick.

We then combine CJ with our newly acquired picks to get someone like Simmons. And I think Morey would prefer this to adding on salary from Norm/Roco.

We then tank this ONE season, and come back with Dame/Simmons, our lottery pick, and flexibility to sign Ant/Nurk without getting too deep into the tax.

If Powell was a good fit and played elite defense, he would be great on our roster, but as is, he duplicates a lot of what our other guards bring. This is one way to maximize his value unless a deal presents itself for a taller player of similar talents.

1 A mediocre pick.. I don't place much value on the Clippers pick - similar to Larry Nance/Roco picks just not worth much
2 Saving tax/ full MLE - the team can move around vet minimums to get under the tax and the full MLE gets us DJJ players, not much value
3 TPE - these have so little value they are worth less than a second round pick
4 Just let Roco/Nurk walk and sign him now, no flexibility needed
5. Similar deal with Roco to NY.... if you think Powell with 4.5 guarateed years on a great deal is worth 1 medicore pick would Roco on 0.5 years be worth even a crappy second rounder?

I'm following your train of thought fine to the point you expressed it in words. I just totally disagree with your idea that trading Powell for a weak Clippers pick is a smart decision; in fact I think its exceedingly stupid.

I have long thought that Boston was the best place to send him.

Cut Boston out of it, trade CJ for Simmons.

If we acquire Simmons why are we trading Dame for Brown?

Amick is reporting teams are getting scared off Simmons because of his contract. 100M + assets for a guy that teams allegedly aren’t completely sold on as a franchise player.

I kind of want Simmons to stay put after the trade deadline just for the shitshow that will cause in Philly.

again... just passing along stuff im reading. Hawks forum is full of supposed rumormongers and they throw around so many ideas from "people on the inside." Kinda hilarious how much they believe this.

Portland: Rumors out of Portland is they are doing a short term blow up. Everyone but Dame Lillard is available. Portland has spent a lot of time on the phone with Atlanta and has offered C.J. McCollum and a top 5 protected pick for Kevin Huerter and Gallo. As stated, Atlanta is leaning to not trading Kev at this time, but this package and Sabonis/Turner is appealing for different reasons. Both teams have talked about Norm Powell for Clint Capela as an option during the draft. Both have interest in continuing talks. Norm is the only player not fully available outside of Damechise.

Portland is asking for a late 1st or protected 1st from playoff teams for RoCo, Nance, and Nurkic and they want expiring contracts for them as well since they are expiring. Portland goal is to free up enough cash to make a run at Harden, Ayton, Kyrie, and Miles Bridges. C.J. I am being told is readily available for an expiring. I am told that it’s unlikely they can land that with the size of his contract but there is interest from several teams. While Ayton, Bridges, and Harden are unlikely, Kyrie is possible.

I am told if C.J. is traded, they think Orlando is the team to do it. There is decent interest in C.J. I am told also told the Lakers have serious interest in McCollum and he’s their top target. Just something to watch for. He said there is a belief that Nurk and Nance could be moved. Might have to drop the price for RoCo. I am also told; they don’t mind trading a top 5 pick if they land one for a star or superstar to play with Dame. Their goal is to build contender around Dame and Dame is on the same page with this. It’s dumb to me, teams like PHI keep waiting on Dame but it’s just a deflection as they aren’t happy with the offers for Simmons.

Recently added today: I was just listening to Frank and Scal this morning and Chauncey said a positive quip about Kyrie. Don’t think that’s by mistake. This just matches the background noise.

If the Lakers are looking at acquiring CJ it has to be for Westbrook.

Basically we'd be tanking this year and next year? I'd want all sorts of unprotected picks from the Lakers. They owe their 2024 to NOP, so max they could give up is all four of;
2025 1st round swap
2026 1st round pick
2027 1st round swap
2028 1st round pick

No CJ isn't worth all of that, but maybe he is worth two of those.

Damn I'd really hate having Westbrook but love the idea of having unprotected Lakers picks. This probably makes more sense if we are going to trade Dame to another team and just push all in on the rebuild.

If the Blazers still want to try and win with Dame next year there probably needs to be a 3rd team involved getting us something for Westbrook. Maybe send him back to OKC, send SGA to Philly, Simmons to us, and OKC gets 5 more draft picks.

There's a small problem and a couple big problems. The small problem is that you need to remove Woods (Houston) from under PHILLY receives because he can't go to both teams.

The bigger problem is that we don't have access to our picks because of the conditional nature of the pick we owe Chicago. If you felt confident that Simons could hold down the fort with that team until Dame got back and that we'd definitely make the playoffs I'm pretty sure you could get the Bulls to let us take the protection off but that would be a huge gamble for us because that pick could end up being the first pick if we miss the playoffs and won the draft lottery. The other big problem is that the Hawks are taking on too much salary; so they would have to send over another 7.1M in salary to the Sixers to make this whole thing work under the CBA.

Also I just don't think that Houston is going to give up Wood and two first rounders for Nurk... they might not even give up Wood for Nurk straight up even though he's been a headache for them. Maybe they would take Nurk straight up for Wood or maybe they wouldn't but no way they throw in two first rounders IMO.
Houston doesn’t want Wood and he doesn’t want the Rockets - that’s an issue.
I do see my mistake trading Wood twice! LOL

my main objective in all of that trade fiasco was this:

1. get rid of CJ’s contract now -
2. get something out of Nurkic or we wind up getting nothing -
3. same with RoCo

if we can get rid of CJ, RoCo and Nurk and now with Dame out (most likely for the year) we should simply take this opportunity to begin the rebuild.

Quick threw out Powell and McLemore for Grant as an idea on the athletic. Here’s what the pistons beat writer said

Fischer suggesting McCollum and Powell both could be available and will have a market if so. He specifically mentioned New Orleans. Dunno what they would offer but they have a lot of picks.

Please @god

that would be an obvious move from both sides, one i've been saying since powell got signed. i got sidetracked into thinking powell could not be traded until next season, which was misguided. but it's interesting to read a pistons guy agree that Powell and Grant are in the same tier. I've been beating that drum for a while now.

LOL.

so much for a top 10 pick for reddish. Keep an eye on what the Hawks do with that pick. They can't be done yet.

But I had seen NY as a potential RoCo destination-- this move removes that possibility.

But Kevin O’Connor, nba expert, said reddish shouldn’t be traded for anyone less than Ben Simmons?

Hawks forum is in shambles. Getting a pick that might not convey this year for a guy who was assumed to be amongst the highest valued young wings in the league.

Also... a Reddish-Barrett wing duo looks damn good. Reuniting that Duke combo.
