it’s actually not. Okongwu is just as good a prospect as little. Frp is overkill.

he seems super limited to me. An undersized center without an offensive skill set. Useful in small lineups but I’d be surprised if he turned into a full time starter. I see Little as a starting wing.

You absolutely keep Nassir and Simons and build around them. Not saying they are the focal points of the team or the best players in the future but when you have two guys that young who seem like great dudes and work hard, you keep them. You start trading vets away for younger guys and picks. Be a good team in three years.

Even if Simons gets offered something like Allen Crabbe did? I think there is a decent chance someone sees his potential like we do and offers him big money and a larger role.

Not so much cap space available for most teams and he hasn't really shown that much to be prioritized by some team. Good shooting, but no playmaking or defense. I think teams don't fall for this kind of players anymore.

also, i've seen this Simons/Crabbe comp thrown about here frequently that makes no sense at all. Crabbe was a 24 yr old role playing catch/shoot wing who luckily became a FA the summer the cap got blown up in 2016. Neither the players nor the situations are similar.

4 yrs, 60. That's a reasonable deal for him in my estimation, and i don't think he gets any deal better than that on the market. Maybe a 3+1 PO to allow him the chance to became a FA right as he enters his prime.

Using Spotrac's projected cap space figures for the 2022-23 season as a guideline, assuming teams pick up options on foundational rotational players and promising prospects on rookie contracts, the following teams can potentially offer a max salary (or close to it) without creating additional cap space or reaching a sign-and-trade agreement (understanding that star players can generally orchestrate their way anywhere):

• Orlando Magic ($48 million)
  
  
• San Antonio Spurs ($41.9 million)
  
  
• Detroit Pistons ($41.4 million)
  
  
• Oklahoma City Thunder ($40.5 million)
  
  
• Memphis Grizzlies ($40.4 million)
  
  
• Charlotte Hornets ($33.1 million)

I'm not too scared of those teams making a big offer on him. Maybe the Pistons?

the allen crabbe match was not a mistake. there was hardly an opportunity cost when you consider what else was available and how far above the cap we were going to be. And we got out of the crabbe deal fairly unscathed.

All i'm saying is, if Detroit offered him a ton of money because they couldn't get anyone else and they thought he was a good good next to Cade, do we really want to match? I would be more than happy to spend 15/yr on Simons. But do we spend 20 if someone was willing to give him that? Even if we sign him at 15. I'd like to move CJ or Powell so we don't continue to have most of our money tied up in 4 guards.

what did Crabbe's deal affect outside of PA's pocket book? who else could we have signed instead of Carbbe?

i don't want to give up talent for nothing. ever. especially RFAs. that's wasting assets and all the investment the team has put into developing Ant for three + yrs.

and your hypothetical is pretty far fetched. detroit is not spending that kinda $ on Ant when they have Cade AND Hayes, with a roster going nowhere.

teams just don't do poison pill kinda contracts anymore, rather they look to facilitate S&Ts. (like the bulls with Markkenen or Lonzo).

Exactly. It hurt us from manuevering around. Nicholson is because of Crabbe.

Also, Detroit was an example. I'm not guaranteeing they do it. Who knows. I want to resign Simons too. Just not at an outrageous amount.

He was a swiss army knife who just couldn't shoot 3s but he was also very vocal as a floor general on defense...like Nance is......we wouldn't have gotten to the WCF without Turner that playoff run..he showed up in the playoffs...

O'Neale/Hughes works.....not sure if that is anything anyone would want. I'd take O'Neale/Paschell which works as well. They might be open to moving Ingles, but he is also expiring and has an even higher salary than RoCo. The Blazers want to be under the tax, not get more over it.

They wouldn't need to open up a roster spot to do a two for one deal though.

Roco + Snell for Ingles + future protected pick puts us pretty close to the tax threshold and now Utah can absorb another player.

We'd have to sign a 14th player which cancels out most if not all of the tax savings from that.

Utah can't really trade a 1st round pick until 2028 and since they just traded their 2028 2nd today they would basically only be able to trade it unprotected (which they wouldn't do here). Other than that they now have their own 2025 2nd, Memphis 2nds in 2022 and 2026, and the least favorable of OKC, Houston, Indiana, or Miami in 2027. That's not a lot of sweetener there, even though I like the premise.

Edit: They can't trade their 2025 2nd because of protections on one of the 1sts they own.
