The Batum trade

Knowing that the other three starters were leaving, the best thing we could have done was keep Batum until the trade deadline. Without LMA, Wes, and RoLo, Batum would've had a bigger responsibility and have inflated/better stats like he does now in CHA. At that point, we can trade him. I hated what we did because we sold him when he was at his lowest trade value.

This season (last season), Batums' FTM has tripled to 3.6 (1.2). Shed of Aldridge, he can play aggressively. We should have dumped Aldridge but not Batum.

You call that playing aggressively? 3.6 FTM is nothing.

I hated batum but that was a terrible trade. Vonleh is garbage
He's not much to look at right now, but there's still a chance he can develop into a good player. With Batum we were always going to be stuck with 13 million dollar sleep-walker who occasionally wakes up and teases you, but ultimately disappoints.

Batum would have been more assertive without Aldridge, but I got bored with him, which is all that should matter to the rest of you, so I'm glad he's gone and so are you.

Vonleh doesn't know anything, but he doesn't hurt us either, so I'm more entertained by him. Therefore the board consensus should be that it was a necessary trade.

I like change. Secretly, I wish we'd change the head coach every year. I'd never get bored, continuously getting used to a new system.

A reliable source. I'll leave it at that. Not going to sell anyone out.
your ass may be anonymous, but it's not reliable. My source is named John. He works for the organization and posts here.

While I understood the other offseason moves, I hated the Batum trade day 1. Crossing my fingers that Vonleh develops into something, but today it looks like a complete fleece job comparable to the dreck received from the Sheed trade. Iirc, Nic had a banged up shooting hand last year. The solid play he's displaying this year is a reflection of him being healthy. I'd love to have him starting at the 2... we'd be a whole lot better on both ends.

This is how i understand it:
Neil wanted to trade Batum for a high draft pick but failed, then he tried to trade Vonleh,Hendo and a side-dish to the Knicks so he can get Porzingis.

*He said at the press conference that he wanted to get a draft pick for Batum and he worked out\interviewed Porzingis, so that's how it adds up for me.

Man.... too bad that didn't work out.

Lol whatever. How do you know my source doesn't work for the organization either? That's right you don't.

I'm a huge fan of the guy, just not of his last season here. I think he's turned it around in Charlotte and I still like watching him play.

Am I the only one that looks back on that trade now and thinks how stupid it is? Gerald Henderson has been absolutely terrible. Noah vonleh has been as well. Yeah he's young and a project I guess but was it really worth it? Aminu is alright but at least with batum we knew he could handle the ball and make plays. Yeah batum was inconsistent and terrible last year but I don't know honestly I would of rather not had the batum trade happen and not pick up aminu. Aminu makes early will Barton like drives and has only contributed on the defensive end unless he's picking up two early fouls like he seems to do in the first few minutes of the first quarter.
I do think we traded Nic prematurely. I'm sure we could have gotten a better deal if we had traded him at the upcoming deadline. Now all I can hope for is that Vonleh starts showing some potential and that we quickly trade-flip him for another player.

Conversely, we have no idea how well he would have played here. His value was at a low, which sucks, but we still got some decent value I think.

I think Nic and Plumlee would be a killer combo. We already know he can play with Dame. And despite being a poor dribbler he's lightyears better than Aminu with the ball in his hands.
And I think, as it currently stands, we got crap. Vonleh is at least two years away, and plays the easiest position to fill in the NBA. Even if he becomes great he plays a position than needs to be a role player.

Well we can still offer him a max deal

I'd like to get him back. It would be sweet to have traded Nic for Vonleh, Henderson, and cap space, get in the lottery, then sign him back a year later.

If he loved Portland so much as HCP said, maybe that's the plan lol

This forum would lose it's mind if we brought Nic back for more than we were paying him before. Nico is about to get PAID.

Perhaps Neil's to as smooth as we thought?

Batum needed a good kick in the ass and the trade may have given him just that. He was so passive in his time here and after his performance last year, the trade was understandable. In another year, we will see what we actually have in vonleh. He is obviously not as developed as a guy like Batum. He is going to have growing pains like most of the players on this team.
