It sucks. MARIS makes me watch the game and want Sergio not to play as well so that I can win the argument and that is horrible! They're both Blazers but I admit that I want Bayless to be the future at PG so I find myself battling the Sergio fans. I should be a Sergio fan too since he plays for us, but with Blake coming back in a month, there won't be time for everyone and I'd like it to go to Bayless. MARIS- I have to make peace with you so that we can start rooting for the Blazers again and not hoping each other's PGs fail so that we can be right.

you are right and wrong speed. bayless is the future starting PG, but sergio will be the backup. It's blake who's days are numbered in portland.

Dood, Maris is almost like Mixum's alter-ego . . . he gets his kicks not by being stupidly and over the top negative but by going against the grain every chance he gets. Knowing that, just let him have his say and take it with a grain of salt knowing that some/most of what he's saying is intended to ruffle your feathers anyways. So just leave it at that and go on about your business.

I don't know. Blake was playing pretty great before he went down. Had some doubles. Knocks down BIG very timely three point shots. We miss him. I want Bayless to start with Blake as the back up. Don't hate Sergio but I don't see where the room is for him.

I wonder if the loss moves Bayless to starter now. I think he only started Sergio to "not mess with what worked" but he clearly favored Bayless tonight. He got Bayless in really quickly so that he could play with the starters. And then he closed the game. I'd like Bayless to start now and I want him to stay aggressive throughout the game. I think he was afraid of doing too much tonight.

I don't see Sergio staying and Blake being shown the door. Blake, even with his flaws, is a much more serviceable (backup) PG than Sergio is right now (and probably for the foreseeable future). While ALL of our PG's have had their ups and downs, Blake has had way, way, way more up than Sergio has. Has Sergio carried for stretches with clutch 3-point shooting? Has Sergio won any games for us in the final seconds? No and no.

Blake's staying - the only question is whether he'll be a starter or backup.

I don't know what to make of it all - Bayless certainly gives us good penetretation and scoring but he had zero assists tonight and always seems like he'll be a shoot-first, pass-second kind of guard.

Let's trade for Chris Paul ;)

Bayless played under control. Had maybe one turnover. And he created a few open threes for Outlaw and Rudy but they missed. What can he do?

well that IS strange. i ALWAYS want EVERY blazer to do good, no matter what. i would never root against any blazer, period.

I'm rooting, albeit guiltily, for Blake to be out for a good long time so we can see our back ups! I think we make a jump to contender next year with a finally healed Oden, one more impact player and natural development

I don't think there is a battle anymore. bayless has passed Sergio and there is no turning back now. As Bayless continues to get more confident, his game will improve dramatically. With Sergio we have seen what he can do, and Bayless is better. If I have to see Sergio drive by his guy and not finish or at least draw a foul one more time I am going to scream (again)

You guys may want to take Sergio and Jerryd's approach: They "genuinely" seem to be pulling for each other out there. High fivin', butt slappin' fools they is! :D

OK, I could do without a KingSpeed/MARIS butt slap. eww?

Well, I think that Bayless is the better player, and I think Nate does also with him playing the final 11 and a 1/2 minutes of the game and playing more than Outlaw or Joel or Greg or Nicolas.

Bayless is going to be real special, man. I was so upset that Roy was hogging the ball like that. We would have won if we played through either LMA or JerryD.

I think Dave from Blazersedge.com really had a great take on Sergio and Jerryd's performances last night. I actually thought our point guard play was pretty good last night ... but it definitely showed that these lineups hadn't played much together.

Jerryd:
I liked Jerryd Bayless' game more tonight than I did against New Jersey. The stats weren't quite as impressive, with him scoring 14 on 6-9 shooting and drawing 3 free throws as opposed to three dozen. But he played a better all-around game. He stayed in front of his man defensively, fought through a couple of screens, got 4 rebounds, and even hit a jumper and passed the ball effectively a couple of times. He didn't get credit for any assists but he should have had at least one on a dish to Outlaw in the corner. He drove a little more selectively, though still a very high percentage of the time. The Charlotte broadcasters had his game pegged the second time he scored. The Bobcats just didn't have the defensive chops to do anything about it. Also, as we just said, it was mostly either Bayless or Brandon scoring, not Bayless and Brandon scoring. Gotta fix that.

Sergio:
Sergio Rodriguez had a rough start to the game but more or less switched roles with Jerryd Bayless midway through, with Bayless playing with the starters and Sergio getting the sub minutes. After watching Bayless drive and finish on the weak Bobcats defense all night Sergio got the picture and did some damage himself, which seemed to loosen up his game. Confidence in tow he managed 10 points on 4-7 shooting plus 5 assists.

I think once the guys get a few more practices and games under their belts with the new lineups then we'll (hopefully) see a little more cohesiveness on the court (better ball movement, being greater than the sum of your parts, etc.).

or you could just block him like me.

Maybe I haven't beat my head against the wall enough yet in my time in this forum. I've been members of many other forums spanning many different interests and this one (and BBF too) by far is the most frustrating to be sure.

I don't WANT to block anyone and have resisted the (strong) urge to do so but, yeah, the time will probably come when multiple people will have to be blocked. Until then, I'll go to sleep every night praying to the Almighty Lawd that they'll become fans of another team, take up some other interest and leave this forum or all of the computers in their homes and businesses catch fire and can no longer cannot to the internet. I feel that's a much more productive approach.

I got tired of arguing with some of the posters on this forum, so I just blocked them. I don't mind debating a topic, but when it's just the same ignorant crap every time...

Who makes up for Blakes 40+% three point shooting? Sergio makes to many defensive mistakes ,and his shooting isn't close to Steves. I think Bayless is the future PG and Blake is the seasoned vet back up for years to come.

That's what I've been saying for since the summer.

I tend to see it this way too ... but I'm willing to give Sergio a chance to prove himself in the extended minutes he's likely to get over the next 6 to 13 games that Blake is expected to be out.

When Sergio was driving and dishing I kept thinking about all the missed assists as bricks were

EXACTLY, listen i like sergio, that's no big shocker, but i also understand his flaws. i find it amusing that alot of guys on here are using excuses for bayless that could just as easily go for sergio as well. i root for both of them because they are blazers.

as for blake being gone, i think the bu PG needs to be a change of pace guy and blake is not that. yes he's shot great this year and he bridged the gap but he's not a long term solution. for that matter i still don't think JB or Sergio are guarenteed to be the solution, maybe it's Kop?

Anyone who thinks I root for Sergio just to irritate people is obviously a newbie on the boards. I've expressed my rabid fanism for Sergio consitently since the day we got him. He's the Pure PG who will lead this team for many years of success.

While they fight for PT now, Bayless is obviously in competition (in the long run) with Blake, not Sergio. Or maybe we end up playing 5 guards. The Sergio/Rudy combo could start against any guard duo in the league and do fine, as could the Roy/Bayless duo, and that's how I think KP looks at them. It's about who plays well with whom, and not about who's the main guy, or who starts. Blake has always been the bandaid, the intermittent piece to steady the team through transition, and the guy deserves a medal for how he's performed.

BTW, I'm rooting for every Blazer to succeed in helping this team, and am sorry if anyone is taking my view as some sort of personal attack on them. Not meant to be. It's just so bewildering how anyone can ever disagree with anything I say. :dunno:

And KingSpeed, SERGIO IS THE BEST PG IN THE WORLD!

I also think Roy is the PG in the Roy/Bayless duo, as he gets assists and Bayless is way better than Roy at moving without the ball.

The problem with your viewpoint on Sergio is that it presumes that the Blazers will become the uptempo type of team that makes the best use of his style of play. You've made it abundantly clear that that's the style of play that you like. I just don't see it happening here under McMillan and with a team that's building around Oden. I see the Blazers being primarily a half court team with occasional fastbreaks. Because of that, I think Sergio becomes the guy on the outside looking in.

Oden excelled on an uptempo team in college and pretty much every player on our team plays better in the open court with the exception of Roy. KP has repeated a million times that's the style of play he envisions for this team's future. Nate seems to be embracing it finally to some degree, but if he doesn't it wouldn't surprise me if we changes coaches at some point.

Wow I say the same thing and I'm a crying baby. Absolutely right MARIS61!
