The Case for Stretching Turner

The owners try to do the exact opposite in every CBA. Why would they want to pay a guy his full contract and then pay other players to get enough salary to field a team. This would cost the owners double in some situations.

The solution is to not sign players to stupid contracts to begin with. Teams shouldn't get off with little to no punishment for signing Evan Turner to $70 million.
I mean, the punishment is having to pay Evan Turner 70 million after a season or two of disappointment lol that’s a pretty penny... but for teams looking to compete? It would be a godsend.

It won’t happen, I know. I just wish there were ways to buy out players without cap penalty. ESPECIALLY in final year of their contracts.

I dont think we are going to see Evan turnover again in the Playoffs for the Blazers, i dont think he will be a Blazer past Deadline, i can live with that, as long as he isn't on the roster after the Deadline. My biggest concern is not Turner, it is the very likely possibility that Hood, Kanter and Seth are gone because we cant pay them, and without Nurkic and who knows what they are going to do with Aminu, that is definetly not a WCF Team anymore. That is my biggest concern, i hope Neil has a good plan and that plan better works out.

I am praying Neil Olshey doesn't make a bad trade with our expiring contracts.

"I don't know about you, but I have an aversion to getting F.U.B.A.R.."

meyers and turner are so close to becoming actually useful for us.

not on the court, but as either pieces to trade or hard cash to come off the books.

i dunno what we need to do but it needs to involve a trim

the only annoying this is turner had a decent wcf and ditto meyers. just a huge pity about all the games and season prior.

Meyers had a good half in a series we were down 0-3. He has a tendency to do somewhat okay when theres no pressure anymore.

He played well against Denver too, he got into Jokic’s head.

Not good enough. The day he is off this team will be one of the greatest days in trailblazers history!
I kind of want him to sign a 4 year extension now, is it bad that this is what I thought of when I read your post?

Just wait until next season. We won’t be able to resign all of Hood, Kanter and Curry but we might still be able to find decent cheap replacements. In case of Curry I am hoping Simons can take some of his minutes already, and maybe Little will be able to take some of Hood’s (the rest could even go to Trent). Kanter is needed until Nurkic returns, otherwise we will be forced to play Meyers or Skal though again I have a big hope that Collins can increase his minutes from last season.

My only worry is that next year we might actually resign one or two of Meyers, Harkless and Turner. I am pretty sure Olshey will offer Meyers an extension, in the line of $30million / 4 years or something.

I doubt this happens. Neils pride will get in the way. How can he stretch someone he signed to that contract?

Its saying he completely fucked the pooch on that one and i doubt he goes that far into admitting it.

No, the fact he isn’t a fucking idiot is what is getting in the way, not his pride.

Taking on 3 more years of dead salary is a brain dead idea, particularly when it’s an expiring contract.

I can’t believe people even think this is remotely a decent idea. It is idiotic, at best.

Everyone knows he screwed the pooch; including him. He has pretty much admitted so when he said something to the effect of, “yeah I overestimated the balloon in the cap.”

For him to say “yeah, the turner contract” is disrespectful to Turner, and I’m sure Turners agent would LOVE his client being tossed under the bus.

I never understand this thinking? In my mind there is no way someone becomes that successful at anything without understanding their mistakes. Successful people see their mistakes and act on them.

Correct me if I am wrong but next season and without the holds of every FA we have (Turner, Moe, Meyers and Skal) we would have about 19M of cap space. Keep Skal hold and the cap drops to 12M. And that's only if we sign only 1 year contract this summer... Do we really want half of this potential cap space in dead money for Turner? I wouldn't. We already have 4.5M (Nicholson, Varejao) in dead money. That would be 11M with Turner. 10% of the cap

Keep seeing people on here posting about how Simons is going to take Curry's place. They are completely different types of players aren't they? Nowhere near similar. And not that Curry is leaving big shoes to fill, but Simons showed just a flash. Do you really think he is ready?

I'm sure the coaches and staff who see him in practice can tell if he's ready or not.

As far as us posters are concerned; that is part of your job to make sure he is ready! (besides who else is there?)
