I don't think Chauncey wants to come back. That's maybe why his contract wasn't extended when Joe's was. But who knows. I won't be shocked either way.
I've heard that he would like to move into a GM role sooner rather than later. Maybe Denver hires him as their GM?
Can we trade Billups for Adelman? I’d love to see David Adelman coaching the Blazers.

Maybe he goes into the management here, to work with Joe and Steve.

I know none of you will believe this, but Jody cares a lot more than you assume she does.

I think if she didn't care, she wouldn't have spent the money to bring a Gleague team here, wouldn't have spent the money to fill out the managerial staff (Schmitz, Sergio, etc), actually hire foreign scouts, invest in the improvements for the practice facility, and not just have a edict to dump salaries for picks.

I guess you could say that those moves could've been done to increase the value of the franchise, but in reality, I doubt the practice facility needing upgrades would've precluded someone from buying the team (nor do I suspect it would increase the value significantly), and Schmitz (and other hires) probably would mean they'd be getting better players which would eventually cost them more in salaries, than going with the Neil Olshey "get guards 6'3" and under" mantra.

So while I don't think she's the ideal owner, in the sense that her goal is to sell the team for as much money as possible (if the stories about Paul Allen's will are accurate), I see nothing wrong with how she's handled the teams business.

At least, nothing in sense of how she and the team has handled things that actually happened vs made up things and scenarios, of course.

She doesn't care enough to get rid of Bert Kolde... So that's a problem...

I wonder if there's something in will that makes that difficult (or something)? Because good lord, it's needed to happen a long time ago.

Solid point... I hadn't considered that. Or maybe Paul just asked her to keep him involved?

I don't know what the reason is, but the day that Toht is fired or is gone from the team, is the day we should all dance.

That might be the case but I doubt it very much. She cares about how much money it is making her. She has absolutely no attachment to the team or actually competing for a championship. Any thought more than that is pure delusion.

She shows up to a lot of games. I just think she's not been an owner in professional sports, I think Bert was involved at Vulcan a lot more than she was before Paul's passing and I think she rightfully knows she needs to take advice from those around her, unfortunately I think she's taking advice from the wrong people or specifically Bert.

It's a bad situation for us because these people who are managing our team are just trust managers who don't have skin in the game and it shows. That doesn't mean she doesn't care, it means that owners who put their own money up to buy a team are just going to care more about the product they get for all of that money. Unfortunately no one managing the trust could possibly have anything at stake because they have no stake in our team. They might think pretending to own the team is fun but you're not going to see them behave like actual owners because they aren't.

This is my biggest problem with Jody. I don't know much about her outside of owning the team but she very clearly listens to the same people that caused problems when Paul listened to them.

But Paul was much better about keeping them at bay. He had done it longer it was his personal team. He had a love for it that I don't think she has.

The best thing she could do with this team is sell it to Phil Knight with the agreement that it stay in Portland in perpetuity and that it be run in a first class manner by basketball people.

Couldn't agree more.

Rumor is Paul had a deathbed-style request that she not sell to Phil specifically so it ain't gonna happen. Besides, he's going to die soon too, and then what will happen?

Yeah, that seems like that may well be the case. It just seems to fit.

But I thought Phil's offer had a plan to keep the team local with, I believe, a trust to help make sure it would remain on sound financial footing.

rumor from where? The Vulcan HQ? pretty convenient rumor for them

I've never heard of any feud between Knight and Allen

I've heard in the past that they didn't like each other and there was some bad blood. I don't recall where, but it was definitely in an article somewhere. Might have been the Oregonian... Not that that makes it true...

Brown and PHX’s coach will be on the market for sure. Maybe Nurse too?

And there it is. Multi-year extension for Chauncey.

Kinda inevitable, really. I think Cronin is trying to emulate Sam Presti: super-cautious, stick with your coaches even when they seem pretty mediocre.

Are people still booing Chauncey at home games?
