David Griffin just said on nbatv he thinks Portland might be better without CJ. Alluded to the balance in the backcourts size without him. Hehe.

Welcome to The Expendables List.

CJ is a hugely valuable trade chip.

That's what talking heads do. They talk.

When they are scoring games based on backcourt size, I'll take a comment like that seriously. Otherwise, I'd just say this guy lost any credibility he had ... if I even knew who the heck he was.

Yeah well he is a fucking idiot. Nothing about that game looked better. And that was before the injury

Using the Nurkic injury in order to complain about CJ?

Smh.
The two are tied to each other. Ball movement and multi layer scoring are great ways to attack teams in the playoffs. Losing Nurk, who is a great option down low, and a very passer from the high post hurts us. CJ isn't a passer, he holds the ball too much, which is fine in the regular season, but when teams specifically scheme for it in the playoffs, it gets shut down......or something does.

You are right of course that we need multi layer scoring options, but once again CJ (as well as Dame who often gets criticized for the same thing) is a different player when he is in the game with other players who can score. If you notice there is much less ISO when Hood, Nurk, and Jake have stepped up. Even with CJ on the floor. His ISO moments come when he does not trust who is he on the floor with.... same with Dame. And I do not blame them.

Losing Nurk kills us for the playoffs. (Jakes's drop off hurts as well) as you say we need multi layer scoring, but that takes multi players who can score. I was excited about a Dame, CJ. Hood, Nurk and Jake line up at certain times in the playoffs. (Insert Hark or Aminu for defense) But that ain't going to happen now.

If CJ regains his health, I’d seriously entertain having him come off the bench - he’ll add scoring to the second team as Kanter moves into the starting lineup. His shooting will open things for Collins down low and our second team will be just fine.

Why do people still come up with this narrative? We can stagger CJ with the bench.

You never know when it clicks for a team in the playoffs. Nurk's injury definitely changes things. But it's still possible that the Blazers (a team very driven) can still have success this year. I don't concede anything with this Blazers team. THEY'RE SPECIAL.

I'm expecting someone from this forum to hit CJ on the knee with a metal rod as he is walking onto the court for his return game.
