Politics The Democratic Convention Nobody Watched

Can’t imagine anyone needs to watch anything to influence their decision. Who the hell could possibly be on the fence at this point? Either you’ve been paying attention or you haven’t. You either think trump is the man to do the job or you know he’s a dumbfuck buffoon who knows his voters are morons and haven’t caught on that he laughs at their stupidity. No convention is going to sway anyone.

If there is no enthusiasm, one may not choose to vote.

How did Donna Hylton get a speaking slot at the convention? She served hard time for raping, torturing, and murdering a man and was not at all sorry about it. A true psychopath.

Donna Hylton (born October 29, 1964) is a Jamaican-American[3] convicted of murder in the second degree and two counts of kidnapping in the first degree[1] for her role in the kidnapping, rape[4], torture and murder of New York businessman Thomas Vigliarolo in 1985.[5] Sentenced to 25 years to life, Hylton was paroled in 2012 after serving more than 26 years.[3] She is the author of the memoir A Little Piece of Light[6]and is a criminal justice reform activist.[7]

What were the Democrats thinking?!?!

Vigliarole [the victim] believed the three girls were prostitutes who were going to have sexwith him. Instead, they picked him up on March 8 in Elmhurst, Queens, at Maria’s home, and drugged him to make him drowsy. Then they drove him to Selma’s apartment in Harlem. The apartment had already been prepared for an extended torture session: The closet door had been cut, a pot put in it for use as a toilet, the windows boarded.

For the next 15 to 20 days (police aren’t sure just when Vigliarole died), the man was starved, burned, beaten, and tortured. (Even 10 years later, Spurling could recall Rita’s chilling response when they questioned her about shoving a three-foot metal bar up Vigliarole’s rear: “He was a homo anyway.” How did she know? “When I stuck the bar up his rectum he wiggled.”)

The three girls took turns watching the man. It was Donna who delivered a ransom note and tape to a friend of Vigliarole’s, who was able to get a partial license plate number of the car she was driving. He notified the police, who traced the plate to a rental car facility. On April 6 the suspects were arrested, and detectives spent 36 hours straight interviewing the seven men and women. “We had to keep going back and forth and catch them in lies,” said Spurling. “It was a never-ending circle of lies.”

Spurling himself interviewed Donna: “I couldn’t believe this girl who was so intelligent and nice-looking could be so unemotional about what she was telling me she and her friends had done. They’d squeezed the victim’s testicles with a pair of pliers, beat him, burned him
Is this for real? She spoke at the convention?

The RNC will be much more exciting....

It might sway them away. Having awesome guests like the Clintons on the same day photos get leaked of Bill getting a massage from an Epstein victim. Lol, solid PR move.

Oh and don’t forget about the rapist/murderer mentioned above. You can’t make this shit up.

I’ll take the crazy my pillow guy over this cast of comic book villains any day.

Trump donated to the Clintons for years.....partied with them at the Playboy mansion...and now having Bannon arrested for the fake wall scam...somebody is looking worse than the Clintons...double standards work both ways

I'm a Democrat, I vote every time, and I haven't wasted my time watching a convention for 30 years

I have other ways to waste my time

(and yeah yeah El Pres, I know....I'm wasting my time by voting)

Well does that mean you don't see watching the convention as a waste of time and have thus watched every convention??? :emotions:

I think the last time I watched the convention (or part of it) was weirdly enough, when Obama gave his speech in 04.

that's the only time I've see any of the conventions live (to my memory). I remember seeing clips off on and, but this years stuff just is cheesey. Not because of the substance, but the fact it's basically a glorified Zoom meeting. And I've had enough of those to last me a lifetime.

But it's not a surprise that ABM posted a really poor attempt at a "gotcha!/HAHAH! Trump owns the LIbs again!" and turned out he was actually, once again, wrong about what he posted.

It's not taking into account the # of people who watched it A: online and B: on MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, and any other platform. And even all that said, who gives a shit how many people watch it? This isn't your typical election year, nothing (on either side) is going to appear normal compared to previous National Conventions, R and D.

You know, and I know, if the situation was reversed, conservatives would be pointing out it's a conspiracy, or that no one is including the other channels it's on, or that it's late at night, or that people are working, or some other nonsensical bullshit they have to convince themselves is the truth so they can sleep at night.

I haven't been a tv watcher most of my life but I do watch the speeches now on youtube after the event...I don't watch the music performances, etc...just the candidates and former presidents, etc...the dems have done a great job this time addressing the problems we're facing with Trump...he's getting crushed like a stale saltine cracker....never seen a convention with the kind of national urgency that this one expresses....I think it's been really good and really on point

Like I then said, a lot of the country watch AGT, then tuned out the convention. Hey, you may be all ho-hum about a stinkin' convention, but enthusiasm does count. Got Trump elected the first time. I'll be interested to see the Republican convention ratings.

The difference is, it wasn't a "lot of the country" watched AGT, it was 5 million.

And they weren't on at the same time.

If you voted for a reality tv host...you were probably watching AGT because the news has too many big words to follow..most of my friends don't have a TV or watch TV shows at all...they all keep up on current events though with the internet...I've never seen AGT...I did see the speeches though online

21 million last night @ABM.

And isn't just horrible seeing all of these Democrats and Republicans talking about kindness, empathy, unity, the rule of law, and love? Horrible!

They should be ashamed. Bring on the fear and hate! Oh, that's next week's show.

What I don’t quite understand is that Democrats watch the DNC and Republicans watch the RNC so what are they really accomplishing. Unless a higher % of Trumps fans are watching than I am assuming. And who the hell is gonna watch the Trump/Chachi show who is voting for Biden?

Well, at one person has been watching--Donald Trump.

Trump Is Having a Full-Blown Temper Tantrum Over Michelle Obama
The former first lady struck a nerve with the president in a speech that nailed him not as an evil genius, but an inadequate fraud.

Much ado was made, in 2016, about the supposed genius of the nicknames with which Donald Trump branded his opponents. Lyin’ Ted. Little Marco. Crooked Hillary. To some observers, these insults, however childish, stuck because they managed to capture something essential about their targets or the way that they were perceived. Through some combination of canny marketing or accidental savvy, the theory went, he was able to latch onto his opponents’ fatal flaw, like a bully seizing on his victim’s defining insecurity. But, like most of the skills attributed to Trump, this talent was grossly overstated: His digs have always been one-note, too broad, and his attempts at incisive monikers for Joe Biden in 2020 have failed to register. The magic isn’t gone—it was never there to begin with.

What does it really look like to expose a politician for who they are? It was Michelle Obama on Monday night, speaking at the virtual Democratic National Convention. Of course, she didn’t hurl puerile insults at the president—she didn’t need to. But she also didn’t need any rhetorical flourishes to lacerate him—no jokey jabs, no grand metaphors. All she needed was five simple words, words the president himself had used just this month to describe the rising COVID death toll : “It is what it is.”

For all his autocratic aspirations, Trump is no political wizard. He is, as Obama nailed him in her incisive, effortless takedown, a fraud, an incompetent in completely over his head, degrading the national discourse and flexing authoritarian muscles not because he’s an evil genius, but because he’s so thoroughly inadequate, so “unable to meet the moment,” that those strongman tactics are all he’s got. “He simply cannot be who we need him to be for us,” she said in her rousing address Monday. “It is what it is.”

The searing speech clearly struck a nerve with the president, who rattled off a series of desperate rebuttals against the former first lady and Barack Obama, one of the headliners for Wednesday’s DNC programming.

In one tweet, he asked that somebody “explain to [Obama] that Donald J. Trump would not be here, in the beautiful White House, if it weren’t for the job done by your husband, Barack Obama.” In another, he attempted to ding his predecessor and Joe Biden over their “weak and pathetic” response to the H1N1 flu, which left roughly 12,000 Americans dead, as opposed to the coronavirus pandemic that has killed over 170,000 Americans and counting. In another still, Trump made some familiar noises about supposed Obama administration corruption, deep state figures spying on his campaign, and treason, before somewhat incomprehensibly thanking Michelle Obama for her “very kind words.” In an appearance at the White House later Tuesday morning, he lashed out again, saying she was “in over her head” and criticizing her for pre-recording the speech, noting that she had “the wrong [coronavirus] deaths”—calling attention to the fact that the death count is now far higher than it was when she taped her address.

These frenzied retorts, though, only proved the former first lady’s point — that this is a man who just simply does not have it. As the New Yorker’s Emily Nussbaum pointed out Tuesday, that observation, however obvious it may seem, is perhaps a more damaging indictment than any that focuses on his sadism. That cruelty is a defining feature, and likely a draw for his supporters. Trump may be brutal, but it’s targeted at those his base considers enemies. In correctly observing that there’s nothing else behind that meanness—no substance or grand plan or basic competence, just emptiness and neediness and pettiness—Obama takes all the air out of him. “One of the smartest aspects of [Obama’s] speech is that instead of denouncing him as evil, she correctly nailed him as weak & incompetent, ill-prepared for the job, an insecure fake,” Nussbaum observed on Twitter. “Much more damning—& accurate, especially on COVID.”

Obama on Monday distilled Trump to his essence in a way he has never quite been able to with his rivals. That much became clear after the DNC’s first night, when the president’s campaign released an email to supporters mocking other speakers who shared “FAKE NEWS” about him with lame little monikers: Bernie Sanders was “crazy,” Amy Klobuchar was a “failed presidential candidate,” Andrew Cuomo was “Fredo’s brother,” and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer was “‘Half’ Whitmer.” The only speaker the campaign denounced without a derisive nickname? Michelle Obama.

I think republicans will be watching Biden's speech to see how bad he fucks it up, even after editing it to the best possible version.

you just nailed our political issues on the head

instead of the masses of voters actually wanting to be as informed as possible on all sides, they fall in line with thier party Nd close eyes and ears to anything else.

what i find hilarious is the percent of people who just know with all certainty they are on the right side when they refuse to listen to the other side.

its this stance that is basically destroying everything.

I haven't watched one minute of it because I don't have to. Biden gets my vote no matter what. I'm not alone in this thought process.

These GOP and their "ratings" rants are so hollow and pathetic......not to mention misleading.
