Good luck River.....sorry you've got to go through this.we have evacuated our property and have only a small bag and our valuable documents....not sure when we can get home...our son helped us out so far. This reminds me of the volcano eruption in Hawaii in the early 90s....only the smoke smells like burned plastic here instead of sulfur....be safe!

We're luckier than many...our house is still standing...might lose my chickens, garden and orchard but thats just stuff...there will be no power for a few days and it's brutally hot and our house smells like burned plastic....can't run the well or fans to clear the space...supposed to be 100 out there today. We're staying at our son's for now and heading to Bend soon to stay with inlaws....many, many people are homeless today...my son's coworker just bought and moved into a new house last week that is gone today....it's brutal
Sorry to hear about your brother and sister in law.....I have heart surgery scheduled for Friday morning ....put my trip to Bend on hold...just got bumped up the list ..4th surgery in 2 years...hopefully this one will be the last. It has been a real tough year on everybody and I'm sure ready for some normalitySo the situation with my brother is pretty dire. 10 days ago he found his wife unresponsive laying in the front room and they resuscitated her. She went to the hospital and they were at first thinking Covid but found ventricular problem. She needed a pace maker. Problem was she had gone so long without oxygent to the brain that she lost her eyesight in the fight.
Then my Brother who is a lymphoma survivor but lost a bunch of mobility in the fight fell trying to take care of their horses and he has dislocated and injured his hip.
Yesterday while getting him out his wife was in surgery getting her pacemaker but he could not deal with it due to fires. This has been a very tough couple of weeks.
It would be a huge blow for them to lose their house right now.
We are hoping they are spared that issue. We did get their animals to safety and we will be going back in to get more stuff. Just could only move so fast last night.
This is just one family. There are more out there struggling right now.
Hope you come through well my friend. It's tough to do things like this right now. She is only allowed one visitor that goes through the visiting protocol.Sorry to hear about your brother and sister in law.....I have heart surgery scheduled for Friday morning ....put my trip to Bend on hold...just got bumped up the list ..4th surgery in 2 years...hopefully this one will be the last. I'll bet you got it bad also for sure. Have you seen this pic of the west coast? It is seriously scary here. So dark I need lights to navigate my house. Birds are silent, probably think it's night. I had to water my garden, ashes all over the plants. Can't tell what color flowers are. Hope they cancel A's game, can't imagine playing baseball in this air. Can't imagine what it's like for firefighters.
Best to all, hope you get through it.
What is your source for this photo? I'd like to look at the rest of the US.I'll bet you got it bad also for sure. Have you seen this pic of the west coast?

You manage a winery and haven't talked to me about wine? Shame on you. I have a collection of about 100 bottles. Just got a bottle of the Blazer 50 year anniversary wine which I don't think is gonna be too good. I like it just because it celebrates 50 years of the Blazers, their golden anniversary. Finest one I ever drank was a bottle Chateaux La Tour Saint Emilion. I've had three of them beginning in 1981 with the last one being purchased in about 1988. Otherwise the best was a Dom Perignon that we liked better than a Crystal from the same year as our last bottle of Dom Perignon. I think we've splurged for about half a dozen bottles of Dom Perignon thru the years with the first being in 1985 when we moved from St. Louis, a hell hole, to Seattle. The last was last November when we celebrated my wife's birthday at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.Sorry to hear of your stories, kj and riverman. Stay safe!
The Chehalem Mountains fire was just above the winery I manage. We had to evacuate an employee living on-site. We were supposed to start with harvest today, but it's so dark and thick. Air quality is totally garbage. Even 3 miles East it clears up a bit.
My parents and sister in Canby are seriously surrounded by fires. The fire just jumped Highway 211 and I think they are going to evacuate soon. Air quality is at 700, which is really bad and even inside they are coughing. Fire is about 7 miles away, but it has traveled 15 miles in the last 24 hours. Also three fires have now basically merged into one fire. Finally, not trying to make this political at all, but apparently a very conservative member of the school board is peddling a conspiracy theory online that Antifa intentionally set the fires with flame throwers... So... that's the state of our country right now. Even in this time of clear emergency, leaders in the community are resorting to crazy conspiracy theories.
Yeah, just talked to her. She has an in with the fire chief so she has been getting information faster than others.seriously?
we woke up with smoke in the house but wife hasnt contacted me about anything and she manages a store right on 99.
Looks like ill be watching very closely tomight.
