The Great Playoff Chase

Actually we own the tie breaker with OKC. As we have the best in division record. So if we tied OKC we would own that tie breaker.

This is true. Also, DHawes22, SA has tiebreaker over us because they are currently leading their division.

We had HCA against Houston back in the Roy days, and it didn't help at all. I would tank just to avoid those fuckers.

Two totally different teams on both sides though.

Different teams, different coaches. Nate was absolutely HORRID at making mid game and mid series adjustments. Although the Rockets are still a tough match up for us, I think we're a better, more balanced team this time around. Back then we were too dependent on Roy, and a lot of that was McMillan's stagnant, one-dimensional, rigid offense. This time we have two all stars that are averaging over 21 ppg, and have Wesley Matthews averaging 16.5 ppg. Also, this year's LaMarcus Aldridge is 5 years older and 5 years better. Back then, he was 23 years old, averaged 18.1 ppg and 7.5 rpg. Most importantly, he was easily intimidated and out muscled by Houston's more physical players. This year. he's averaging 23.2 ppg and 11.3 rpg and not easily intimidated or pushed around.

Yeah, the Rockets are a tough match up, but if we do end up facing them, I think it's far from a foregone conclusion we would lose to them in a 7 game series.

Saying Nate was horrid at making mid-game adjustments implied he actually made them.

I wonder if Minnesota still has a chance. They won big tonight and they're healthy now. They're only 4 losses behind Dallas and Memphis.

They won by 4... and gave up 45 in the 4th quarter and almost blew a huge lead.... so yeah, "They won big."

HCA? It's not a given that we get in. Let's see where we are after the next 7 games. ATL, the 5 game trip from Hades, and then Golden State at home. Could be a lot closer to Mrmphis than most people realize. If last night was any indication, it's going to be a long 22 games to finish the season.

Wesley is killing us right now. < 50% FG in 14 of last 16 games. You start to notice his deficiencies more when the shots don't fall. He's getting looks, but his confidence is shot. We were not defendable when he and Batum were hitting open 3s early on. Made life easy for LA and Dame. Only guy playing as good or better than the 31-9 days is RoLo. I thought Wesley was just in a slump, but this goes back to January. Don't know if he's banged up or psyched out, but it's killing our offense (and we all know defense is never going to be our calling card)

Still can't believe we GAVE AWAY a win like that. We have no room for error in the west. Sigh

If they go 3-2 on the road trip, the debacle from last night will be forgotten. But that is difficult to envision when we are 1-8 in our last 9 games vs teams with a winning record since winning at Dallas on Jan 18th, the only other team we've beaten with a winning record is Toronto, and even that was way back on Feb 1st.

Tuesday March 4th, 2014 Games To Watch (Games Updated Throughout Comments)-

San Antonio @ Cleveland
Root For: Cavaliers
Reason: Trail Blazers are now three back in the loss column and with only one more game left against the Spurs, they'll need some help.

Golden State @ Indiana
Root For: Pacers
Reason: Even though we have a five-game cushion on the Warriors in the loss column, we still have two more games against the Dubs this year and I'd really hate to see Portland slip past the fifth seed. Also, I'd rather face Phoenix or Dallas in the first round (assuming we're the third seed) than Golden State.

Houston vs. Miami
Root For: Heat
Reason: A Houston win puts them back into third. If any game can go in our favor tonight, this is the one.

Oklahoma City vs. Philadelphia
Root For: 76ers
Reason: We can root for Philly all we want tonight, but the chances of the 76ers pulling off this upset are slim to none and slim just left town.

Los Angeles Clippers @ Phoenix
Root For: Suns
Reason: We're now only one game up on the Clippers for Home Court Advantage. after our debacle last night against the other team that occupies the Staples Center. If Miami beating Houston is 1A, Phoenix knocking off L.A. is 1B.

On NBA Radio today, they said Portland is the team everyone wants to play in the first round. No one is scared of us.

Good! See last night's game as an example of what overconfidence can do to you.

They were dominating most of the game and were never at risk to lose.
Unfortunately, I can see that. Our defense comes and goes too quickly. Also, if we're not hitting from three, we've got a tough time scoring. Although, our crowd could be an intangible that not many teams can say they have. And if we do get hot, watch out.

I was talking about Minnesota last night. What are you talking about?

THEY who? That could be some east coast Canzano! They had Canzano on ESPN once as a Oregon Duck "INSIDER"! Good-lord!

Whomever the host is in the afternoon. I know he's 33 and he's the host when CJ comes on every Thursday.

Minnesota has six really easy games coming up. If they can win them all, they are still in this.

Portland vs. Atlanta
Root For: Trail Blazers
Reason: Absolutely imperative to win tonight as you don't want to go into a five-road road trip coming off of two home losses.

Houston @ Orlando
Root For: Magic
Reason: If the Trail Blazers still have visions of the No. 3 seed, then Houston needs to start losing. Although if they keep winning at a higher clip than the Clippers, all is not lost. As long as they stay in the third spot and Portland doesn't drop down to No. 6, the Trail Blazers would avoid the Rockets in the First Round.

Golden State @ Boston
Root For: Celtics
Reason: Golden State is the only Western Conference team to win in Miami and Indiana this year. That is why I'd like to see them as the No. 7 or 8 seed. While I think we matchup well with them, their ability to get hot in an instant makes them a team not many will want to play int he First Round.

Memphis @ Brooklyn
Root For: Nets
Reason: If possible, let's hope the Grizzlies miss out on this year's postseason. They do have a difficult schedule coming up so if they stumble at all against teams they should defeat, that bodes well for them not playing in May.

Dallas @ Denver
Root For: Mavericks
Reason: As I've stated, a 3/6 matchup against the Mavericks is the Blazers' best possible First Round matchup. For that to happen, Portland needs to win and so does Dallas.
