And just like that, we are only 2 games ahead of the 9th seed and we don't have the tiebreaker.

I correct myself. Phoenix is 9th now and we are 2.5 games ahead of them.

Our game against Phoenix is huge. We get tiebreaker by way of division record if we beat them, thus tying the season series. Maybe these games will warm us up for a playoff run. We'll see.

Pardon me, but I don't see any chase at all. It appears to me that the fall rate is almost equal to the acceleration of gravity.

Phoenix @ Washington
Root For: Wizards
Reason: Logical answer is to root for the Wizards as the Suns are just two games back of the Blazers in the loss column and they own the tiebreaker. But do we really want to back into the playoffs because other teams lost? I saw way too much of that as a youth and I want to get in because the Trail Blazers won the games. Maybe if teams like Phoenix and Dallas continue to win, it'll cause our team to play with a sense of urgency - something that we really haven't seen since the first half of the Golden State game.

Los Angeles Clippers vs. New Orleans
Root For: Clippers
Reason: It's looking more and more likely that we will not stay in the No. 5 seed out West. In my opinion, it'd be best to see the Clippers continue to win so they take either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed.

San Antonio vs. Denver
Root For: Spurs
Reason: It's also looking like the No. 8 seed is a real possibility. And while the Spurs are streaking right now, I think our team would be confident heading into a series with them. In fact, that's what I'm holding out hope for: a 1/8 matchup with San Antonio.

Memphis @ Utah
Root For: Jazz
Reason: Don't look now, but the Grizz are one game back of the Trail Blazers in the loss column, with the tiebreaker, and they travel to Portland this Sunday to take on the Trail Blazers. If I had to guess right now, I'd say the last two spots will come down to the Blazers, Suns, and Mavericks.

AAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHH! These next few weeks are going to be nuts!!

This is going to be awesome. Part of me loves that we are in a chase... the season was dragging.

Big win for the Suns in DC tonight. They've now won five straight and passed the Mavericks, for the time being, for No. 8 out West. Only two games separates No. 5 from No. 9 ... the Wild, Wild West

Nice work Hawes on updating this thread!

Suns took care of biz. Impressive 3-0 road trip, including 22 point comeback @ MINN. Now they get 2 easy ones against the Knicks & Lakers. Meanwhile Blazers try and work LA back into games at ATL, CHI, then back home Sunday vs. MEM. Worst case = sitting in the 9 hole by Sunday. But even if that happens . . . Suns schedule gets rough & Blazers get some easy ones. Not inconceivable that we slip out & climb back in. This season is anything but boring.

UM we were IN a chase for a top 4 seed. That was boring for you? You'd rather see us barely make the playoffs? How exciting!

Somehow KS I get the impression you assume the teams below us in the standings are not going to lose anymore games and we're not winning anymore? I think we'll win the next game everytime we play.

I don't consider chases until the last week of MArch/April. That's when the real fun starts. Too many games were left for the 4th seed to be sewn up in early march. Now, with 10 games left, it's a chase. It's just not for the 4th. No biggie. Shit happens. Lets see how it turns out.

If we go 5-5 we make it, 3-7 we don't, and 4-6 I can't tell.

The way we've been playing, it will be hard to get 4-6. Aldridge is back. Maybe that will help.

5-5 AND beat the Suns at home. That would tie season series, with division record being the tie breaker (which we win by a mile). Even if Suns went 7-3 in their final 10, in that scenario we'd win the tiebreaker and get in. It's going to be hard for them to go 7-3 with their schedule. But I don't know if we might go 2-8 or 8-2. We might be the toughest team to predict in the whole league right now.

Believe division tiebreaker only takes place between teams within the same division. Since we are in different divisions, the next tiebreaker is conference record.

Portland @ Atlanta
Root For: Trail Blazers
Reason: A loss and Portland could conceivably be in 9th place after the weekend

Houston vs. Philadelphia
Root For: Rockets
Reason: Is it wrong that I want to see Philly's losing streak break the record?

Dallas vs. Los Angeles Clippers
Root For: Toss-Up
Reason: The Mavericks are two games back of the Trail Blazers, so a Clippers win would help in that aspect. But if you still feel the No. 5 seed is the place for Portland, root for Dallas so the Clippers drop down to No. 4.

Portland @ Chicago
Root For: Trail Blazers
Reason: The win in Atlanta was nice, but it doesn't mean much if we don't take care of business in Chicago as the Trail Blazers have the Grizzlies looming on Sunday. And you know what they say, the first game back from a road trip is essentially another road game.

Oklahoma City vs. Sacramento
Root For: Kings
Reason: Honestly, I just don't like the Thunder all that much.

San Antonio @ Denver
Root For: Spurs
Reason: If we're to get out of the First Round, I want to see the Spurs in the Semis. That could happen if they stay No. 1 out West.

Phoenix vs. New York
Root For: Knicks
Reason: A Phoenix win isn't the worst thing in the world after Dallas lost tonight to the Clippers. If you still have aspirations for the No. 8 seed, root for the Suns. But if you like Portland's position right now, root for the Knicks.

Golden State vs. Memphis
Root For: Toss Up
Reason: Either result leads to one team gaining ground on Portland and one team falling behind. The Trail Blazers also play both teams over their last nine games of the season.

That GS memphis game is gonna be nuts.

APRIL is going to be AWESOME!!!! Finally, games that will really matter! (I know they all do, technically, but it's really hard to get geeked up for a February game against someone like the Bucks or something...)

.

I kind of want to see the SA lead over OKC (for the best record in the west).....shrink. Get it down to 1 game so the last few games of the season mean something to SA. Specifically their 3rd to last game. (Against Phoenix) That is a home game for SA and we may need them to win.

This thread just got linked to by the Trail Blazer's official facebook page.

Site is crashing now! :) Stats are going to go off the hook. More money for Denny (jk)!

With the news about Beverley coming out, do we now want to face them in the 1st Round?

Wow spurs have won 15 in a row? Now that's how you close out a season.

Not so sure they are the favorable match up in first round, they have a great coach and a lot of combines playoff experience. I think I'd rather face one of the younger less experienced teams. I know we match up well with spurs but a 7 game series is a lot more intense than a regular season game.

If the Spurs wanted to, they could win 50 in a row. They just like to fly under the radar, and pace themselves. They only lose in the regular season on purpose, I've come to realize.
