Clearly - seeing as how he missed the entire first season by injuring himself before camp even started. Our medical staff must be at fault!
He didn't injure himself before camp. He had a pre-existing condition, which was addressed with microfracture surgery instead of minor arthroscopic surgery.

WRONG. His MRI at the draft did not show the defect as they were "pristine". A few months later Oden had pain and a new MRI had issues requiring exploratory surgery. I don't know if anybody knows exactly what the injury was but at the time people thought it was dance dance revolution. Seeing as he became such an alcoholic he was probably binge drinking a ton back then so maybe Oden just blacked out one night and woke up with the injury doing god knows what. It was most definitely an acute injury though and not some pre-exisiting condition.

Oden said he first noticed when he was getting up from the couch. I wouldn't be surprised if he had passed out on that couch the night before, and didn't know he was injured until he woke up with it all swollen in the morning.

He became an alcoholic during his second season, not before his first. I remember KP using the word "pristine" to describe the rest of the knee joint as viewed during the surgery. And I read "before camp" to mean "during pre-camp pickup games," so "pre-existing condition" was a poor choice of words. Personally, I think he did it during Summer League, but that's just me...

MF surgery is normally performed on knees that have played hundreds and hundreds of games. Oden played only part of a college season and his Summer league was cut short so he could get his tonsils taken out. I have never ever ever ever heard of a player getting MF surgery after so few games played. Oden is the only player who has gotten MF surgery after not playing any games which is what happened before his 2nd and 3rd mf surgeries. You can believe the Pristine Knee stuff all you want but that doesn't explain why the 2nd and 3rd mf surgeries when he's not even playing.

Repp'd Sly. I posted earlier that Oden felt pain in the knee, got an MRI that showed "cartilage Damage". Then, he got exploratory surgery which showed he needed MF.

Unless they played in 1978, when Lucas could punch out Jordan. :ghoti:

Okay, I no longer care about the Bulls. I want Luke on our 1990 team and have him punch out Laimbeer. :ghoti:

Edit: I responded to BC's post before I saw this thread get derailed to Laimbeer. I think he's one guy we'd all like to take a swing at.

Yep.

Pritchard was right. Durant will win multiple scoring titles, but Oden will win multiple rings (2-year contract with the second year a player option).

If Greggers gets injured again, he may be waived by the Heat prior to March 1st, and they can then sign Juwan Howard 'just in case'. :)

Wait, the Heat made the 2nd year Oden's option? Wow. What a strange contract for a guy that hasn't played in 4 years.

Ouch, that hurts! I finally donated my Oden jerseys to Goodwill about two months ago. I had bought a red one as soon as they were available and then bought a black one after he had the first MF surgery - and wore it to opening night 2007 to show my support for our fallen savior.

Oden was thrilled to play three consecutive games of full-court, 4-on-4 last week. The goal is simple: Play basketball again.

"I'm 25 (years old) now ... I've got an old body," Oden said. "I understand. My body is not going to be (like it was) when I was 18 and able to run all day and jump over people. I can't do that. It's just not going to happen. My knees, the wear and tear, I understand that.

"But I'm a play as hard as I can. I'm going to try to jump over people and I'm going to try to run all day. If my body lets me, I'll do it."

Greg Oden will fly to Miami at 6:00 AM on Monday to begin on-court work with the Miami Heat.

“(Oden is) in full basketball mode,” said his physical therapist Ralph Reiff. “There’s no more rehab. He will be a basketball player on Monday.”

Oden hasn't played since 2009.

“My knee’s good,” said Oden. “I’m able to walk, jump, run. ... It’s been a while. It’s been a long road. ... I got an old body. My body is not going to be what it was when I was 18. When I was 18, I was able to run all day and jump over people. I can’t do that now. It’s just not going to happen. But I’m going to play as hard as I can and I’m going to try to jump over people and I’m going to try to run all day. If my body lets me, I’ll do it.”

He says he has an old body which is true. Miami will treat and train him much like the way we treated and trained Sabonis.

Sabas had more basketball skill in his right thumb than Oden has at this point. Greggers will go out on the court, rebound a bit, foul a bit, and be an "enforcer" until his next injury, which my guess will come around the 20-game mark, depending on his minutes.

A hired goon, basically, to slap around Noah a bit in the playoffs.

No shit. I didn't say Oden was Sabonis I said they'll have a set of protocols in how they treat and train Oden much like we did with Sabonis. The Blazers were very careful with Sabas, limiting minutes in practice and games, no back to backs, etc. The Heat will treat Oden much the same.

They're even going to get him a lush wife to make his drinking problem seem minimal.
