Wow some bitter Ex-Oden fans here. The guy hasn't had contact in practice yet. That will be his first step and once he does that they'll monitor his recovery and get him ready to play in an actual game. That was the plan when he signed with the Heat, to take a slow time returning him to basketball game action and aiming for him to be a contributing player in the rotation by April.

He had his surgery a few months before Derrick Rose who just returned to play this week. With Oden's history it would be stupid to rush him into play just to "get him on the floor" for preseason.

Rose should have returned last year. There was no medical reason for him to sit out as long as he did.

You don't have to be an impact player as a Center in the playoffs to make a difference. Now if he gets winded on the way to checking into the game or snaps a knee getting off the bench that could be an issue.

Making an impact and making a difference is the same thing. At least that's what I meant. The guy won't make a difference on the floor after being out for so long.

You guys are forgetting how biased the refs are in the NBA. Oden with the refs on his side could be unstoppable.

All they really need is a big body to keep Hibbert from dominating in the playoffs. They can match up just fine with everyone else.

That's a quality post. Hopefully, it works out for them.
Even considering the heartache of watching him pan out for another team, I think he has so much talent it would be a shame if injuries stop him from being the player we know he could be.
Greg Oden when playing is a beast. Foul prone, injury prone, but on sheer size, talent, athleticism, he's an exciting basketball player.

That's why the Heat won the title with the fewest amount of Free Throws ever in a 7 game series.... ;[

Look up some of this stuff before you complain, also the 2002 Kings had more free throws than LA in the aggregate. That's always interesting seeing people not complain about Shaq fouling out early in Game 5, in a game LA lost by 1.

Rose got injured on a non-contact play and was very frail during his last season. I can't imagine this would be a good idea, I understand why he took his time.

Are you seriously trying to say that LeBron and Wade don't get superstar treatment from the refs?

The Heat started beasting in the Regular season with the addition of Birdman; Wade is a shell of himself now as well so don't worry.

Keep going but you're wasting my time. His BS fts came in 2006, not last year. Let it go.

What a stupid post. Rose had not completely recovered from his injury. There is a difference between a doctor no longer forbidding a player from playing and a player being fully recovered.

I think players like Kevin McHale were idiots for playing through injuries. It ruined his career and he walks with a limp today. Thats a reckless short sided attitude which I'm glad Rose and Oden don't share.

Yeah, Greg Oden has been playing it extra careful, right? It's been, what, three years since he played last? He's making extra sure.

Well if Oden tried to play through them he'd probably be in a wheelchair or bed ridden.
 
Greg Oden is moving closer to playing in an actual game and could even do so briefly in the preseason.

Oden hasn't played since December of 2009.

"I tell people all the time, for me, I'm just happy to be able to step on the floor and just play, even just work out," said Oden. "And now, to be on the NBA schedule, that's just one more step closer to getting back out there and playing."

Erik Spoelstra said the Miami Heat brought Oden on the road with them to allow him to re-acclimate.

"Every part of it, we want him to feel that he's involved and a part of the team," Spoelstra said. "So even in the workouts where he hasn't been involved, he's doing pre-practice. He's watching film with our staff. He's out there for every practice. He travels with us.

"He's doing more and more each week. He loves being around the group. It would be very frustrating for any NBA player to be out for multiple years."

If he breaks his leg again.... I would be seriously concerned about his mental health.
