Interesting read about Oden's time in Portland.

He occasionally perked up from watching Mike Conley, a high school teammate, develop into an All-Star caliber player with the Memphis Grizzlies. Those thoughts quickly soured the nights he was confined to the couch watching NBA TV. This is where he would see Kevin Durant, chosen No. 2 behind Oden in the draft, challenge LeBron James for the title of the league's best player.

"He's so conscientious that he felt bad for four or five years because he was letting down Portland," Keefer said. "They paid all that money for him so he felt bad. And then at some point, you just get tired of seeing Durant just kick a--."

The stranded Oden found his "Wilson" in the form of alcohol. Every night was like a Friday. McDonald said it was Oden's way of giving up on basketball.

"I think he kind of just figured out it wasn't going to work out in Portland," McDonald said. "That's when it kind of started. We were going out for no reason. We'd go to a bar on a Tuesday, just randomly. It was just to waste the time."

Portland isn't a great place to live if you're rich and black so torturing upset white people became kind of a hobby."

FTFY

Depression is no joke, and alcohol exacerbates the problem. Going out to a bar on Tuesday just to kill time isn't very funny for anybody of any age, although it appears that was the only way to get Greggers out of his bedroom.

It's just too bad it had to end this way. If Oden can become a starter in the league again, that would be a huge accomplishment for him. The Blazers are due for some good luck. I am not going to risk the bad karma by wishing ill will on Oden.

Saturday, December 28th is a BIG day. Mark it on your calendar ladies.

Greg Oden not playing in preseason?

Apparently Greg Oden hasn't even gotten off the bench in 3 preseason games for the Miami Heat. The reason? He's not in "game shape."

Here's the question: If you had Greg Oden on your team for the first time, wouldn't you want to get him out there on the floor for at least a few minutes during the pre-season, for God's sake?? It wouldn't matter if he wasn't in "game shape." All you have to do is play him for 5 or 10 minutes and see what he looks like.

Is Oden injured again? I suspect that he is, and the Heat are just afraid to say so.

Re: Greg Oden not playing in preseason?

Greg Oden was not doing contact drills with the rest of the team at the beginning of training camp. As long as he's in any kind of shape for the playoffs the Heat's paltry investment in him will pay off.

Re: Greg Oden not playing in preseason?

Makes no sense. He's had more than enough time to get into "game shape." What a joke.

Absolutely. Besides, it's the pre-season. Who cares if he's huffing and puffing a little bit out there? I can't understand why the Heat wouldn't put him on the court unless he's injured again.

Greg Who?

Re: Greg Oden not playing in preseason?

When was his last surgery? How much more recovery time could he possibly need?

This is spot in. You don't rush a guy back who is injury prone especially when you don't NEED him for the regular season. As long as he is ready and in game shape come playoffs is all they care about.

Re: Greg Oden not playing in preseason?

Greg is the new mascot.

They'll trot him out, he can waive his little hat, and then they can pay him.

Re: Greg Oden not playing in preseason?

The less time he spends on the court (and couch), the fewer the opportunities for injury. The bench is probably the safest place for him, all things considered.

Maybe they are afraid to use him.

Re: Greg Oden not playing in preseason?

Saving him for the playoffs. At least that's what I'd do.

Re: Greg Oden not playing in preseason?

I think the plan is to harvest his organ for the black market

Re: Greg Oden not playing in preseason?

I think the Heat are worried that if they win a title with him he'll want a Championship Cock Ring.

Re: Greg Oden not playing in preseason?

He's too busy worrying about unnatural principal paid per annum rates, and their compulsory instigation of liquidity traps.

I can't wait to be thrilled watching him save them in the playoffs.

It's a can't-miss investment. They can't miss wasting every penny they spend on him.

Re: Greg Oden not playing in preseason?

Guys guys. He won't be worth anything to them in the playoffs if he hasn't played in four and a half years. You think he'll suddenly be an impact player? Not gonna happen.

You don't have to be an impact player as a Center in the playoffs to make a difference. Now if he gets winded on the way to checking into the game or snaps a knee getting off the bench that could be an issue.

Re: Greg Oden not playing in preseason?

Is anyone else interested to see Greg Oden with the ref bias that comes with the Heat? He'll be unguardable.
