Politics The "Insurrection Act" and Martial Law

Yeah that's what I keep coming back to. At the end of the day, we are in a "when, not if" situation, and none of us have seat belts.

And this is a ride that goes upside down and loop-de-loop. Better keep your hands inside the ride at all times except when flipping the bird, and hold on tight.

The wealthy make money on large swings. Especially if they know it's coming (like Congress and their lobbiests do).

They short it prior to the collapse and the further it falls the more they make. Then they buy in at the bottom and ride it back up. The higher it rises the more they make.

Rinse, repeat.

An added benefit to the wealthy is that this is horrible for the working class, so people become desperate and accept worse working conditions for lower pay.

At this rate though, there won't be any riding it back up. The bottom is going to fall out. We may see a 1939 level depression...maybe worse.

How far can you push the people before the people push back? How much can you take away before the people say no more and take the streets? We may yet see.
In 70 years of living I have never owned a gun (other than an antique wall hanger) and have had absolutely no desire to. That will change in the next few weeks and it pisses me off. Having to arm myself to protect my family from my fellow citizens because they aren't intelligent enough to see the obvious is utterly appalling. MAGAts pose far more danger to the average American than a boatload of illegal immigrants. I am far more afraid of white people than I am of people of color.

Never owned anything more lethal than chef's knife and cat. Not that I own cats. My neighbor's are mostly cool, judging by lawn signs last November. But also know Trump pardoned violent brownshirts.

Seems to me that Trump, Musk, Vance and the whole Republican "party" are doing their best to literally incite a civil war so that Trump can seize permanent control, declare martial law and make himself permanent "leader". The pace at which they are dismantling democracy is a very clear signal....at least to me.....

They aren't worried about Democrats jumping on TikTok and protesting with stupid dances or props to show upset they are with the administration. All of them are cowards. Let the system fall and put together a real grass roots effort to overthrow this junk.

Well the Democrats would have never done all this crazy shit. Our government would still be in place if they were in power.

Agreed. But they would have sold us out little by little anyways. It's been happening for decades. Their rule was garbage too, though not as bad. Let it all crumble.

What good does collapsing the economy do for the rich? Their money and wealth will be meaningless and worthless if the bottom falls out.

Simple: they buy the dip.

Oh, did a smaller company with a good idea fall to tariff harseshit? An oligarch can buy it! Did hundreds of them? Oligarchs can buy them! Is everyone trying to sell their home to get enough money to pay off their credit card debt? An oligarch can buy their houses!

And oligarchs can become citizens cheaply, with only $5 million. It's a one-time payment, and the taxes are almost nothing!

And they'll make money all the way down and have incredibly cheap labor to exploit. They'll be able to buy up all of the cheap real estate and farm land.

They can wait decades... Eventually it'll fall enough that it hits bottom. Then they'll switch and ride it back up.

Yeah, it's definitely looking to be shit... Wondering what the best options are. Maybe it would be best to just sell everything and leave the country... Or at least sell everything so we could leave easily if it came down to it?

I'd be careful about selling everything unless you are about to flee. One of the many possible scenarios to collapse is massive inflation, in which case your cash stockpile will become only enough to buy breakfast - and only as long as you aren't interested in eggs.

Yes. Definitely a concern... But the mortgage payment is set. So if I sell the other house I'd always be able to make the mortgage payment on the remaining house.

I guess utility prices would go up... Crazy to have to think like this...

Maybe best thing would be to sell one house and pay off the other...
