I hope if Democrats ever get back in power, they remember this and go after all right wing talking heads.
No they shouldn't.
First Amendment is meaningless if it only applies to those with whom you agree.

When Putin took power, one of his first actions was taking over state TV and removing a comedy program that mocked him.

Remember, if you voted for Trump youre a racist and a bigot and you fucked up this country.

Everything is your fault.

He said MAGA supporters “are desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

That is indeed what he said.

I think what he said is very likely true, but it presumes things that haven't been determined on the record yet regarding the shooter's motivations.

I don't see anything in that quote about the shooter's motivation. Nothing at all. The entire statement is about the speech/actions of MAGA supporters.

Speaking of, will the democratic president/senate/congress be able to go back and fix all the bullshit? All the things taken out of museums, laws passed, etc?

No.

Some of it, yes. But much of the damage is permanent.

Take decades.

Kimmel’s suspension prompts free-speech Republicans to reconsider their boundaries

The indefinite suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s TV show amid pressure from the FCC is prompting libertarian-leaning Republicans to consider redrawing their boundaries when it comes to limiting speech.

Disney, the parent company of ABC, removed the late-night comedian from its airwaves after a conservative outcry over Kimmel’s remarks about Charlie Kirk’s assassin culminated in public pressure from FCC Chair Brendan Carr.

Carr hinted at further actions against media companies on Thursday, telling CNBC that “we’re not done yet” as President Donald Trump urged NBC to take similar action against two other late-night comedians who have criticized him. That’s complicated things in Washington for a GOP that built itself up to be a champion and protector of free speech.

In fact, some Republicans who consider themselves defenders of unfettered speech are getting more comfortable with limiting it. Sen. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., told Semafor that “an FCC license, it’s not a right. It really is a privilege.”

“Under normal times, in normal circumstances, I tend to think that the First Amendment should always be sort of the ultimate right. And that there should be almost no checks and balances on it. I don’t feel that way anymore,” Lummis added.

“I feel like something’s changed culturally. And I think that there needs to be some cognizance that things have changed,” she added. “We just can’t let people call each other those kinds of insane things and then be surprised when politicians get shot and the death threats they are receiving and then trying to get extra money for security.”

Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., said he’d “suppose” Carr could have kept quiet and let pressure build naturally but had no problem with the chair’s comments.

“I didn’t think it was that scary. I think Jimmy Kimmel made it pretty easy for the company,” said Cramer, who often says he’s not easily offended. Carr’s comments, he argued, “were so veiled.”

Hawaii Alaska Washington Oregon have formed a regional healthcare alliance. Maybe they should take it further and become a sovereign country. It seems DC is already attacking the west coast
Just offer services. Offer universal healthcare. Offer parental leave. Offer all the benefits all of the greatest minds will want.

And get stuff done.

Show everyone how great it can be.

Marc Maron is actually a pretty principled guy. I remember during all the twitter and social media doxxing, and the government directly pressuring social media platforms to ban people, he was one of the few voices on the left that stood up against it.
Oh wait, no he didn’t.
Jump off a Walmart, Marc. Two faced four eyed fuck.
What government representitive was threatening social media?

Given the difference in response by Trump’s FCC to Kimmel’s poor choice of words, vs Fox’s Brian Kilmeade’s on-air statement advocating for euthanasia for homeless people, you would almost think hypocrisy was in play.
What words should he have not said?

I’d be fine with that. I show no allegiance to all the dipshits in the Bible Belt and hell most the rust belt as well.

Not Alaska. California. We're the ones with the redwoods. They're the ones with polar bears.

You guys are hilarious in the way you dissect every post. Okay, maybe I should have said influences instead of motivations. We’ve heard various takes on that, but I doubt that we know the full truth of it. I don’t believe that Kimmel said anything that deserved getting canceled by the baby-in-chief. Just that the way he stated what MAGA was doing as fact, rather than opinion or a joke, left him more vulnerable.

I would argue that he did nothing wrong. In fact he did exactly what a responsible patriot should have.

And the feds stepped over the line.

And I agree with you.

But say the same thing just a little differently and maybe he’s still on the air.
