I have also known them for years, especially Wild Rice. When I used to bring cakes, before they were deemed a terrorist threat, he was my contact person. Even after he always greeted me warmly. Sadly, in late years I have not been able to go to Blazers games; due to vision problems I can't do long drives at night so that lets out going to Sacramento and have had to avoid indoor noisy crowded areas. But I always loved it when NBA TV carried Blazers games since Mike & Mike did the calls, at least at home games. I know Rice sometimes went off the rails and was on occasion offensive. But I liked that he was human, he made gaffes, he was not some robot. After all, he's a broadcaster, entertainer, he's not running for President.

So many Blazers memories are associated with them. Brian Grant fouling Karl Malone's elbow with his face. Brandon Roy's insane performance against Dallas. Dame's 0.9. I can't think of these things without also remembering the calls.

Is there somewhere to leave messages? I doubt they read the board and I'd like to say a goodbye to my buds.

I'm positive they're reading the boards but I'll DM the link to this thread.

I met them both (and Kersey, too!) at the Nike Employee Store a couple of years ago when they gave out free passes to the season ticket holders. Never thought I'd be able to say I went shoe shopping with Mike Rice.

And....Mike Rice gets WILD!

Love the Mikes. Always seemed like great guys that just plain loved what they were doing with a team they loved just as much as the rest of us.
Tone I don't know a lot about, but I did run into him at the Washington square target with his wife this past season and was just a genuinely nice guy.
I liked Barrett, loved Rice, and although I couldn't stand Tone on the radio (sorry dude) I also agree he seems like a genuine and good guy. I wish them all well, and thanks for the memories!

You could follow them on twitter and say goodbye

Everyone talks about it like it's a terrible thing, but I liked the homerism of Mike and Mike. If I'm watching a Blazers broadcast, I want it to be as though I was listening to fellow fans chopping up the game. I also like the fact that I can tune in to Wheels during a game and know whether we're winning or getting blown out by the tone of his voice.

I liked them very much, think they were among the best broadcasters in the league.
Always into the game, enthusiastic, very homeristic but usually not biased. Real Blazers fans, especially Barrett (I know Rice is actualy from Detroit), very knowledgable about basketball and mostly just a fun couple of guys to watch Blazer games with.
They would be missed

Detroit, Schmeetroit. Rice is definitely a Blazers fan. I'm sure he's spent more of his life in Portland than anywhere else.

Oh God yes, could anyone forget Mike Rice getting thrown out of a game by Steve Javie? The Blazers played at GSW shortly thereafter; the Blazers fans gathered behind the broadcasters and gave him an ovation.
Thats by far my favorite rice moment. He bad some good ones, but to get tossed by a ref, that took true emotion.

Tell us Mike!

Someone get that man an S2 account!

BNM
Yes. I'm sure Mike has lots of beans he could spill.

Plus he's funny and knowledgeable. He'd be a great poster. Or on a poster. Or at the dentist. Or wherever.

Come on, Mike! I can't get to Portland for the meet and greet, spill it! There's got to be a blog. Since you no longer work for the Blazers there is no reason why you can't start on S2.

I'll miss Mike Barrett a lot. I'll also fondly point out in future years that our own Mike Rice is the only commentator ever to be thrown out of a game!

I'm sure Mike Rice has a non disclosure clause in his contract, so if he says anything and they find out he did he loses out on his contract or something.

I enjoyed meeting Mike Rice...he has a really high understanding of the game and I appreciate his loyalty...Barrett too..pros...Tone I wish well in his new biz! Hope they all stay Blazer fans for life!

That's what I was thinking.
